No this line is not from goofy actor Jack Black! It's actually about as far as you can get from him! The Jack Black skincare line is a leader in men's grooming and now in the interest of going green they've introduced PureScience Technology - a new formulation technology created with natural, organic ingredients. All the formulas contain certified organic ingredients, are fragrance, paraben and colorant-free, are animal friendly, and have been dermatologist tested. Personally I've never been a huge fan of Kiehl's (with the exception of their creme deodorant), but for men there's not that much of an offering when it comes to skincare (some of the big Sephoras in NYC don't even have a section for men!). I think Jack Black is a great alternative to Kiehl's (the packaging is even a little similar, no?). Though this line is aimed at men, it's completely uni-sex I've been using the Body Rehab Scrub & Muscle Soak ($35) as an exfoliator after getting my legs waxed and it feels great on the skin. It's perfect for removing flaky, dry skin and it's infused with eucalyptus and rosemary so it has a very refreshing scent (not too strong though as many products infused with herbs often tend to be!).

I am big on sending thank you notes and little treats. When someone helps you or in my case, take care of you in the ER, you should send a little something to show your gratitude! It doesn't have to be anything extravagant but a handwritten note is a must! I was sick yesterday and my friend's hubby (Chief of Staff at Centennial Hospital ER) took very good care of me in the ER (but he'd do that even if he did not know me, he's just a great doctor!) so I wanted to send him a little something that he can actually use. Men are not like us, they don't like have stuff just to have "stuff".

I have a love-hate relationship with holidays, birthdays, and Father's Day because when it comes to my father, brother, boyfriend, and close male friends, I almost never know what to get them! Buying for most males unless you know anything about gadgets or have enough money to buy something like a car is impossible! So I'm happy to report on a brand that makes chic, fun, and beauty-related items to get all those important men in your life -- Hommage. Best of all everything in the Hommage collection is simple and sleek so it works even for those beauty-averse males. I was able to check-out their Hommage Gentleman's Face Kit ($150) which comes in a simple, black, rippled box with silver writing. The kit contains an Eye Serum to tackle dark circles, under-eye puffiness and wrinkles (my boyfriend has some serious under-eye circles and I gave him a Vichy product to use, but it hasn't helped all that much yet, so I'm hoping this will do the trick!). There is also an Eye Treatment which helps fortify skin during sleep, and a peel-off mask for every part of a man's face which is supposed to help moisturize (given how dry skin gets, at least in NY around this time, the timing couldn't be better!). Also, I haven't seen the Hommage Shave Sets ($400) for myself yet, but from the pictures they look so James Bond!

While I am a one scent girl, my hubby is loyal to none. His side of the bathroom looks like the fragrance counter at Neiman Marcus. From Hermes, Lanvin Homme to Dolce & Gabbana, he has it all which makes it difficult when I want to buy him a new bottle because he already has it! If you knew my boyfriend, then you would know why the name of this company first sounded like an oxymoron to me. His usual "grooming" routine involves a bar of soap, and thats it. Lucky for us he agreed to use them for a week and tell us what he thought about them. =)
Ricks Review:The aftershave stuff (Soothe the Shaven Beast) felt pretty good. You don't have to use much of it so it will last a long time. It wasn't oily. The actual liquid is thin, its not thick like lotion. Smells pretty good too.The hair gel (Iron Grip) was OK. Its doesn't really have much hold and is not very thick (that can be good or bad). If your hair is longer you will need to use a big dollop of the stuff because its pretty thin, which means it could run out pretty quickly. One other thing, was because it was watery, when you open the cap it kind of goops all over if its been turned upside down. I guess the downside is the label says "strong hold hair gel" and its really not strong. This is light/medium hold hair gel.
My Thoughts: I like the fact that it wasn't sticky! It means that if I touch his hair my hands aren't left with disgusting goop all over them. Plus, the packaging was really clever and their website is cute too! And if one of your chief complaints with your man's aftershave is the overwhelming smell that most of them have, you will be happy with the light birch scent the aftershave leaves behind- very manly =)
