Mom Snob: Anya Hindmarch

| Leave Comment
anyamomsnob1.jpgNo bag wardrobe is complete without an Anya Hindmarch bag!  We first interviewed the Queen of Bags three years ago in 2006-- since then we've become addicted to her chic and functional bags, clutches and now ready to wear (I ordered an insanely fabulous fur stole for Fall 2009, complete with hidden pockets!)

Anya designed her first bag at age 6 out of paper-- even at that young age she understood the importance of organization and designed little pockets and slots for everything a little girl needs!  She told us she's been obsessed with bags for a lifetime and plans to continue for at least another 20 years.  In addition to being the ultimate bag snob, Anya is also mum to 5 children!  Read on to find out how she manages it all!

What do you want for Mother's Day? A day off!

What is your most cherished Mommy moment? Having all of my 5 children together at home at once... I cherish our time in Mustique when we can all be together over the holidays.

Mom Snob: Eva Jeanbart-Lorenzotti

ejlmomsnobpic.jpgOne of my favorite sites to browse for gifts is Vivre.com, it's an amazing source of inspirational and eclectic items-- handpicked by its founder and owner, the very chic Eva Jeanbart-Lorenzotti herself (I ran into Eva at a showroom once and she was sitting cross legged on the floor with bags and shoes around her, in fierce concentration).  In Eva's world, the world of Vivre, life is celebrated and one will never fail to discover something new to inspire and delight.  What inspires and delights Eva in return?  Why her handsome hubby and beautiful children of course!   Read on to find out stylish tips from Eva for busy moms!

1. What do you want for Mother's Day? For mother's day this year I would like my children and I to have a cook off, with my daughter, Allegra, leading the charge. She is really becoming a wonderful chef!

2. What is your most cherished Mommy moment? Kissing my children first thing in the morning, as well as now receiving great emails and texts from my daughter.

Mom Snob: Meet Joy Gryson, Gryson Handbags

OliviaAndJoy.jpeg

We love Joy Gryson for her urban chic bags; she was the designer behind many favorite Marc Jacobs bags including the Stella, Sophia, Venetia and Zoe. She currently designs her own bag lines-- Gryson and Olivia Harris (named for her daughter), both of which we absolutely adore. She created an instant hit with the Gryson Skye bag but even with all her success, she is most proud of being mom to Olivia who she had with husband Peter. They are the sweetest couple and are so supportive of each other. Joy and Peter are lifelong residents of New York where they have built their home and bag empire. Read on to find out how Joy manages life as a busy working mom!

1. What do you want for Mother's Day? Something made by Olivia.

2. What is your most cherished Mommy moment? When Olivia tells me that I am her best friend.

3. How do you balance work and family life? Not easily, but I just try to keep things in perspective and try to remember what the truly important things are in life, not sweating the small stuff.

Mom Snob: Meet Fiona Kotur Marin, KOTUR Handbags

fionakotur.jpg
Our Mom Snob of the day is the creator of Kotur bags, a Red Carpet favorite of A-listers and fashionistas alike. Fiona Kotur is not only known as an International icon of style, she is also mom to four adorable boys!  Between her busy schedule in Hong Kong-- (her homebase since 2002) working and raising her young family, she took time out to tell us her favorite Mother's Day memories.

1. What do you want for Mother's Day?
Breakfast in bed with my four! One loves to make boiled eggs and the other pancakes. We will most likely spread it out on the bed - picnic style!

2. What is your most cherished Mommy moment?

I took a class in baby massage and the connection between parent and child is so important. It strengthens the bond and is great family activity.

3. How do you balance work and family life?
That it is the eternal question for every parent, I decided to talk to my kids about what is important to them. They have told me it is important for me to drop them off, put them to bed and help them with their homework - but not necessarily watch their soccer games. Open dialogue is crucial!

Mornings are tough for moms.

sashamomsnob.jpgI don't know anyone who is not totally addicted to US Weekly (I guess all of my friends are gossip obsessed!)-- from the latest celeb gossip to the latest trends in fashion, US Weekly has it all!  The force behind the fashion trends in the mag is none other than Sasha Charnin Morrison.  Best known for her stints at major fashion publications such as Allure and Harper's Bazaar (and daughter of the man who created Broadway sensation "Annie")-- Sasha bolted for US Weekly after giving birth to her twins so she wouldn't have to continue the insane travel schedule.

I caught up with Sasha this week (actually, Sasha and I text or email at least every other day about shoes we crave!) and asked how she manages life as a mom to twins, wife to her hubby of 19 years (high school sweethearts!) and Fashion Editor of the world's most juicy gossip mag.

1. What do you want for Mother's Day? Something personalized...a mug, a painting something from the kids like that...

2.What is your most cherished Mommy moment? When they guys were born...it was a hellacious labor but when I got them and they were in my arms, it was overwhelming.

3. How do you balance work and family life? We just make it work. We have an incredible support "staff". My husband and I work it out to always be there for the boys, always drop them off together at school, etc. Our nannies and our parents are all wonderfully available and supportive.

Dr. Alex Liu: The Reveal on Peels

Before and after results after facial rejuvenation peels

Everyone talks abut peels these days, everything including cleansers now claim to be a peel of some sort. I recently sat down with cosmetic surgeon Dr. Alex Liu who I barraged with a list of questions. The most important being how it works. Once we reach the age of 20, our collagen stops growing on it's own. Collagen is the layer of the skin below the dermis, so the top layer is the epidermis, then the dermis and below that is the collagen. The collagen keeps everything in shape, which is what we are after. After years of exposure to the elements as well as making expressions on your face, the skin begins to break down and even develop creases and cracks (like forehead and laugh lines) because of the lack of collagen. The only time collagen will grow is after trauma, in an effort to repair itself. That's where the peel comes in to our lives. The acid in peels penetrates the epidermis and the dermis and reaches the collagen to traumatize it in a controlled manner so that it is "stimulated" to tighten. Remember, the skin has rejuvenation abilities but only after it is forced to by some sort of trauma. The peel also removes the upper layer of the skin to reveal the "new" skin.

Kimberly Snyder Healthy Skin Tips

kimheadshot.jpg
Awhile back I had the chance to speak with founder of Envision Beauty and Living Foods Expert Kimberly Snyder about raw food, healthy lifestyles, and her face care product The Solution. She had so many interesting things to say that I turned to her once again for some advice! Below you'll find some wonderful tips that Kimberly Snyder put together exclusively for Beauty Snob! They're 5 Diet Tips to Prevent Peeling and Flaking Skin during the hard winter months!
naturescience_bt1.jpg
1. Bump up your consumption of Omega 3 Fatty Acids.
Omega 3 fatty acids will prevent peeling and flaking, and promote youthful, smooth and radiant skin by keeping skin cells hydrated and strong. Omega 3 fatty acids maintain the structure and fluidity of cell membranes, facilitating the inflow of nutrients and the outflow of waste products. A great source of Omega 3 fats is the Açai berry, which is native to the Amazon forest but has recently started to appear in health stores and even some supermarkets. Açai has a hefty serving of Omega 3, 6 and 9, as well as fiber, amino acids, minerals and key vitamins. Other great sources of Omega 3 include flaxseed and flax oil and walnuts.
2. Get familiar with hemp seeds.
Hemp seeds contain gamma-linolenic fatty acids, a powerful type of anti-inflammatory Omega 6, which can specifically help keep your skin hydrated and prevent flaking. Hemp seeds, which are extremely mineral-rich and also pack 11 grams of protein in just 3 Tbs., can be purchased in any health food store and are a great addition to salads and winter soups.

Bobbi's World: Part One

Congrats to Terri B, Kari, and Rosy Posy-- our winners!  Please check your emails!
IMG_3290.JPGI was invited to Bobbi Brown's office in NYC to interview the Beauty Guru last month and was beyond excited.  After all, Bobbi inspired Beautysnob.com-- but I'll get to that later.  I arrived bright and early at 9:15am, got my make up done by Kimberly Soane, East Coast Artistry Manager for Bobbi Brown cosmetics, and ushered to Bobbi's office by our appointed time.  As I looked around, a cute and petite woman in Prada platforms walked past me and said "How're you doing?"  She took off her glasses and it was none other than Bobbi herself-- who at 51 years old does not look a day over 35!  We immediately bonded over our birkins (who knew the Queen of Make Up is also a Bag Snob!?!?!) and discovered we had many similarities which led us to determine that we were actually twins separated at birth (so it was years apart and on different continents but stranger things have happened!).  Our scheduled one hour interview turned into 90 minutes of fun in Bobbi's world-- a place where every one is treated like her best friend and no one leaves without multiple hugs, bag load of make up and invitation to dinner at Chez Bobbi's.  (Jump for more!)

Interview with Heidi Klum, Very Sexy Collection

heidi_1_watermark.jpg

verysexy_shadow.jpgHeidi Klum was at The Grove yesterday to promote her new make up collection, Very Sexy, for Victoria's Secret. I was lucky enough to have been able to get an interview with her before she began the personal appearance event. She is as sweet and beautiful as you imagine her to be. And super tall. I took a picture with her and it was quite ridiculous, I am 5'6" but look 4 feet tall! Well, I was wearing flats and she had these impossibly high platforms on. In case you're wondering, she is wearing a dress by past Project Runway contestant, Rami Kashou. She says you can tell it is his design because of his signature sweet hear neck line. Hmm, I thought his signature was "draping". Anyway, it looks great with her wings!

She was at the Women's Conference, which I attended, so I asked her about that. She was moved by Maria Shriver's speech, like everyone else, she cried when Maria talked about getting in bed with her sick mother. She talked about how Maria feels like she always has to be strong, she is the rock for everyone in her life and Heidi identifies with that, she says that she is the same way, "It is a German thing", then added, "But the day was about empowerment and kicking butt!". At the conference, she was on the panel about being an entrepreneur so I asked whether her looks has helped or hurt her in business. I felt it was topical because it was something that was discussed at the conference. She began by saying that it hasn't hurt or helped her but then paused and said, "Well, it certainly hasn't made it any easier. I have to fight the battle that being good looking means you're stupid. But of course my looks has brought me all the things like Victoria's Secret, Sports Illustrated and being on TV as a host". It would truly be the dawn of a new era when someone who looks like Heidi is the Secretary of State or President! I was going to ask her what she does to look so good after 3 kids but I already know the answer. The answer is "nothing". People like Heidi are given the gift of just looking that way, plain and simple.

Interview with Beauty & Living Foods Expert Kimberly Snyder

kimheadshot.jpgKim 7.JPG
Kimberly Snyder

I had the chance to sit down and chat with beauty and living foods expert and the founder of Envision Beauty, Kimberly Snyder. Snyder maintains a raw food diet and explained to me some its benefits as well as shared some insight into her new product -- The Solution. Read-on for what she revealed!

What are some of the health and beauty benefits you have noticed from maintaining a raw food diet?

The benefits I have experienced are astounding.  I easily maintain my ideal weight, am always energized and feel absolutely great!  Eating raw also helps keep my skin and hair vibrant.  If you are trying to lose weight, look your best or just keep your energy level up, raw food is an amazingly healthy and satisfying long-term answer.

Do you have any tips for women who can't commit to a raw food diet, but would like to have some of the benefits. Are there any snacks/juices you can recommend?

You don't have to be 100% raw to enjoy noticeable benefits. Chlorophyll-rich, leafy green vegetables are the most beautifying and mineralizing of all foods, and green smoothies are an easy way to pack a large amount of them into your diet.  Sprouts are loaded with enzymes - throw them in your salads or on your sandwiches.   Raw almond butter spread on celery is a great mid-day snack, as are raw sprouted almonds.  I've posted many more recipes and health tips on my blog. More after the jump!

David Yurman Fragrance: The Scent of Romance

Congratulations to Lisa C, Bonnie and Courtney!  Your stories were chosen as our winners.  Thank you to everyone who entered-- each of your stories were delightful!dyfragrance.jpg dytc.jpgOne does not merely meet David Yurman; one is enveloped in the resplendent energy he exudes the minute he casts his gaze on you.  He is seriously one of the most charismatic people I have ever met!  He won me over from the moment we sat down for the interview (I am also a sucker for guys who say they like my outfit- it's nice when men appreciate fashion!).  We talked about everything under the sun; from family to his passion for work and his childhood in the Bronx-- we took a stroll through nostalgia lane and evoked the scent of his life.

David Yurman is clearly a man who adores his wife (and is doing his best to keep up with her!) and devoted to the company they founded together that will one day be passed down to his son, Evan.  I have no doubt the legacy of David Yurman will become one of the great American tales.  Read on to discover the luxurious world of David Yurman!  (I recorded the interview as to give you every little detail!)
