Pixi Flawless Beauty Stick

user-pic

Pixi and I go waaay back. In High School I came across the brand while shopping the beauty counters at Bendel's and immediately fell for their powder foundation. I wore it for years when Bendel's suddenly stopped carrying the brand. It briefly popped-up at Sephora, but soon after was only available in the Pixi London shop. I stopped by the London boutique in 2004 to stock up on the foundation, but by that time they had cut costs by replacing the applicator brush with a sponge and given that the price wasn't that much less than Chanel I jumped ship. I recently got a press release that alerted me to some new Pixi finds and the memories just came flooding back! I had no idea the brand still existed!

Pixi now has a comprehensive e-commerce site and they seem to have lowered their prices. I've been using the Pixi Flawless Beauty Stick ($26) and it's even better than the powder foundation I used back in the day. The brand still has some improving to do when it comes to their packaging, but in terms of quality and easy of use, this cream-to-powder foundation/concealer stick is awesome. Plus it's formulated with SPF 28. The colors are very light however, so I would suggest going for a shade darker than you think you need.

Bobbi Brown Highlighter Pen

user-pic

bobbi_brown_highlighter_pen.jpgbobbi_brown_highlighter_pen_opal.jpg

I just threw out every single highlighting product in my make up drawer (YSL Touche Eclat included, or especially YSL I should say since it invariably stinks after two weeks of use!) because I have found the big daddy of all Highlighter Pens from Bobbi Brown. And when I say big, I mean HUGE. This pen won't risk running out anytime soon, it's the size of a banana (I'm exaggerating but it's definitely a good size so it will last a long time!).  Even with my jet lag I had the most amazing luminous skin the entire month in Asia.  Now that I'm home with jet lag yet again I'm relying on my highlighter pen to get me through the day without looking as haggard as I feel.  There are three shades but I prefer the Opal, it gives a natural sheer glow, as if you're 25 years old again.  The light deflecting particles also take attention away from any lines you may have.  This will be the best product you buy this season!
Bobbi Brown Highlighter Pen for $32

BEAUTY SNOB TIP: (Three ways to use)
1. Blend with your foundation before applying.  This makes a lightweight tinted coverage for daily use.

2. Apply all over face (avoiding T-zone) BEFORE your foundation.  This gives a really pretty glow (NOT recommended for photo sessions) for the beach or going out at night.

3. (BEST) After applying foundation but before using powder or blush, apply along top of cheek bones.  This is the most natural and beautiful glow you'll ever get!

Without a doubt, Chanel's Peter Marino-renovated Soho store--due to open on September 10 (aka Fashion's Night Out)--will be buzzing with activity. The reason? Not only is the coveted French label launching a slew of Soho-exclusive products in honor of the reopening, for FNO, it's launching a limited edition series of nail lacquers that are universally flattering for all skin tones. "Les Khakis de Chanel" polishes masterminded by Chanel Beauté creative head Peter Philips includes: Khaki Brun, an earthy gray-brown; Khaki Rose, a muted, dusty terra-cotta and Khaki Vert, a mossy green (this year's new Jade?). The colors will be sold separately and can be worn alone or combined for a truly urban chic camouflage effect.

Chanel's highly-anticipated Peter Marino-redesigned Soho store on Spring Street is scheduled to make its big debut on September 10 (aka Fashion's Night Out). To commemorate the occasion, Peter Philips, Chanel's global creative director of makeup, has designed the "Soho Story Collection," an assortment of exclusive Pop Art-influenced beauty products that echo the spirit of the store's downtown location. "For me, Soho is a place where Bohemian ideals meet the toughness of the city," he says. "I love the tension and energy this creates."

nail_colour_in_steel.jpgnail_colour_in_strong.jpg

Available only at the Soho store, the collection is a study in extreme contrasts, partnering feminine pinks and roses with strong, industrial metallics. From pretty cheekbones to anthracite nails, tender creams and flashes of metal simultaneously reflect and contradict each other. "I had a specific girl in mind who is both hard and soft. A girl who discovers a new city, a new life," Philips adds. "This is a very special kind of New York woman. She is innocent, but she has a steely determination that fuels the city."

In what will undoubtedly be the most sought after piece in the collection is a compact with the four letters of Soho stamped on silky powder in a palette of soft shades. The other pieces in the exclusive Soho lineup include: Rouge Coco lipstick in "Stunning" (beige pink); Quadra Eye Shadow in "Stupendous" range of beige, brown, prune and steel shadows; Rouge Allure Laque in "Stunt" soft mauve; Glossimer in "Star" (subtle shimmery pink) and two nail lacquer colors--a "Steel" grayish blue glitter and "Strong" blackberry glitter.

Prices are as follows:
Soho de Chanel Palette: $65
Quadra Eyeshadow in Stupendous: $56
Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Stunning: $30
Glossimer in Star: $27
Rouge Allure Laque in Stunt: $32
Nail Colour in Strong and Steel: $23

Available exclusively at Chanel Soho, 139 Spring St., 212-334-0055

Jennifer Aniston at "The Switch" Premiere

user-pic

jennifer_aniston_switch_premiere.jpg

For the premiere of her newest film, "The Switch," the always radiant Jennifer Aniston got red carpet ready thanks to the professionals at Chanel Beauté. Aniston's face, prepped by celebrity makeup artist Angela Levin, featured a coating of Chanel Sublimage Concentrate to enhance her skin. Her base was La Mer Foundation in 06, and on her cheeks a bit of Chanel Powder Blush in Rose Pétale was dusted. As for the eyes, Chanel's Quadra Eyeshadow in Tentation Cuivré--a rich brown and copper shadow palette new for holiday--was applied. According to Levin, the warm shades complimented Aniston's natural eye color. "Starting from the inner corners of her lashes, I blended the shadow out, going from light to dark," she said. For the liner, she used Tarte Clay Pot eyeliner in black.

To bring out the pop in Aniston's blue eyes, Levin finished with three coats of Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara in noir. "I applied one coat, then brushed out the lashes, applied a second coat, again brushed out the lashes and finally a third coat using a fan brush," she said. The finishing touch? Aniston's lips were au natural with Chanel Rouge Coco lip color in cashmere and Kevyn Aucoin lip pencil in bare.

Editions de Parfums Carnal Flower

user-pic

carnal_flower.jpg
I am not a fickle perfume girl. There are only three scents I wear on a regular basis though I do have at least 20 bottles of perfume stashed in a drawer (gifts from family/friends that I don't want to part with)-- I'm loyal to Kai, Creed Fleurissimo, and Vintage Gardenia from Jo Malone. See a pattern here? I'm partial to florals, sweet scents work well with my body chemistry while musks do not! I mean for YEARS I have not used anything else (I have this weird things of wanting to smell consistent in case my son/hubby has to find me in the dark by scent-- crazy, I know!) so when a dear friend sent me Carnal Flower from Frederic Malle Editions de Parfums, I was ready to stash it away with the other dozens of bottles I don't use. But the bottle was so beautifully packaged I thought I should at least test it. The minute I sprayed it on my wrist, I was hooked. It was one of the most beautiful fragrances I've ever tried! Yes it's a bit strong at first so I used a tiny bit on my wrists and back of the knees. Throughout the day, the scent opens (much like a flower that blooms in the late afternoon) and becomes even more fresh and alive. The main scent is tuberose, which I adore and it's peppered with bergamot, melon, eycalyptus, jasmine and coconut. Totally divine and an absolute must if you love floral scents!

It's almost too precious to use. Dior Beauté is launching a limited edition Eyeshadow palette in October featuring the French label's iconic Bar suit on legendary editor Carmel Snow as illustrated by Monsieur Dior's longtime associate, illustrator Rene Gruau. Complementing the nipped waist and regal posture of the suit and overall silhouette is a color palette that is smoky grey--in perfect complement to the House of Dior's trademark hue.

Tocca Candle Collection

user-pic

Aside from Dayna Decker, Tocca takes the cake for me when it comes to candles. Sleek and classic, they can blend into pretty much any room decor and the scents do not dissipate after the first 2-3 uses like so many others. The display of Tocca candles just got even more chic via a new milk frosted glass topped with Tocca's signature crest in a gold and light green emblem. There are 22 fragrances in the collection (four new scents coming in the fall), many of which veer on the feminine, floral side (gardenia, rose...love!). If you're not able to sniff the fragrances in person, Florence is a favorite. It's great for a bathroom or living space and the scent lingers well after you've blown out the candle. I recently spilled a whole pot of coffee in my kitchen - a beyond messy disaster - I Swiffer'ed again and again, but it wasn't until I moved a Tocca candle into the kitchen for an hour that I finally got rid of the smell!

Sephora by OPI "Leaf Him At The Altar" Nail Colour

user-pic

opi_leaf_him_at_the_altar_colour.jpg

I am all about the bright bold nail colors. I've been wearing blue and turquoise all summer but for the Fall I got the SEPHORA by OPI Leaf Him At The Altar which is still fun and bold but a little more subdued in tone for the colder months. Green has been a difficult color to get right, if too dark it just looks heavy and depressing, too light and it starts to bring out a sallow tone in your skin but this hits it right on the spot. But of course, it is still not for everyone, I have darker skin so can do highly saturated colors. The best way to check is to test on a fragrance test strip and hold it over your nail. At SEPHORA for $9.
