Jo Malone Vitamin E Gel: Take Your Vitamins!

user-pic

jo_malone_vitamin_e_gel.jpg

With cold weather approaching, our skin is bound to take a beating. Chapped skin is sometimes unavoidable, especially when it comes to your lips. Dry and cracked no more! Heal your wind-whipped skin with Jo Malone's super-rich Vitamin E gel. A seriously powerful hydrator, its packed with the antioxidant-rich vitamin, so you get full benefits against the elements.

On a daily basis, this stuff is great for the lips and hands (read, areas prone to dryness); rub them into your cuticles for a real moisturizing experience. And if you find yourself in extreme circumstances - say, skiing in 28º weather - coat a thin layer on your face to shield it from the temperature and wind. Flying is especially rough on the complexion in winter months, so I keep this in my carry-on (at just over 1 oz., the jar is within TSA allowance). It's very concentrated, so all you need is a little bit to cover your face.

The results are immediate. The grease-free gel absorbs into dry skin and brings it back to life. You still get the benefits the next day when you wake up and your skin is plump to the eye and nourished to the touch.

A luxury that's become a necessity, now I can't live without it. Share the wealth - this is a great gift for those you love. At Jo Malone for $90.

Hair Masks: The Snob and The Slob

user-pic

I don't ask much from my masks and conditioners just that they de-tangle and hydrate my hair, which at the moment is particularly dry because of the fall-to-winter transition. That's not too much to ask now is it!? I have a lot of hair, but it's long and thin - hence the knots. In any case, when you're spending around $60 for a hair product you expect it to work! Luckily I was given a sample of Serge Normant Meta Morphosis ($60), before buying it because if anything it felt like it was sucking the moisture out of my hair. I looked all over the jar and online to make sure that this product wasn't meant for oily hair, but no it is in fact meant to help those of us with dry hair...I don't get it! People rave about this product -- seriously everyone from Jason Asher to Rachel Zoe. Every time I tried it (I used it for a good 5-6 washes), I needed to re-apply a conditioner or mask after using it because it did nothing but make my hair feel like a tangled knot (even Bumble & bumble conditioner - not a mask - worked better than this treatment/hair mask!). It also felt like it was made of 99% water and it didn't seem to adhere well/absorb into my hair.

Thankfully there's good news....not only does Oribe make hair masks that cost less, but they have a scent that will appeal no matter your gender and they work divinely! I've used both Oribe Masque For Beautiful Color and Oribe Signature Moisture Masque, but if you have colored hair I suggest you use the Beautiful Color product to maximize the brilliance of your color. Plus, like I said I have dry hair at the moment and it works to treat that (just not to the extent that the signature one does). Bye-bye brittle hair...

tomford_beauty_illuminating_protective_primer.jpg

We all know how I feel about Tom Ford (if you guessed stalker-level obsession, you are 100% correct). So you can only imagine how I feel when I receive packages from him (okay, so it's the PR Director Tom Ford Beauty, but I like to pretend my imaginary boyfriend, Tom, sends these gifts to me).

But back to the business at hand-- Tom sees makeup and skincare as tools of transformation, and yes, his full range of products is as glamorous and life-changing as you would imagine. To him, a radiant complexion is the perfect base for sumptuous clothes. The latest product in his line will be launched today at Bergdorf Goodman: the Illuminating Protective Primer with SPF 12. With a Personal Appearance by Tom Ford himself from 5pm-6pm. You must stop by Bergdorf's to meet him!

As with everything Tom touches, the Illuminating Protective Primer is perfection - as is your skin after you use it. Every girl loves a gorgeous, just-been-kissed glow. And that's exactly what it grants you. This is a hybrid product that blurs the line between skin care and makeup, combining the very special Tom Ford Infusing Complex with new-skin retexturing ingredients. Not only does it increase cellular vitality and protect your face against free radicals, it contours the features, improves texture, tones, and brightens.

I use it alone during the day (it's really enough for light coverage) or under foundation, as it creates an even canvas (and then dab another layer over the foundation around the outer-eye orbital area and inner-eye corners - trust me on this, no man will be able to resist your luminous skin). Look beautiful and fight aging at the same time. Leave it Tom to create a versatile product that reexamines the way we wear our daily makeup and how we define our faces.

At Bergdorf Goodman for $70.

Colorscience_Sunforgettable_SPF30_Brush1.png

Now there is really no excuse to neglect to put on sunscreen, each and every day, no matter what. Colorscience's Sunforgettable brush-on powder is the most convenient, mess-free sunscreen ever. Where has this been all my life?

Loose mineral powder dispensed from a handy on-the-go brush gives great coverage that protects you from UVA and UVB rays. The applicator is self-dispensing; just sweep the brush over your face and the just-right amount is released. No excess powder falling all over the place and no desperate clicking. More importantly, it's as sheer and lightweight as can be. You don't feel - or look - like you have anything on, especially with my shade of preference, Almost Clear. I can use it whether or not I'm wearing makeup (Colorscience also offers skin-based shades and powder with sparkle, too).
Just dust it on after you've applied your makeup. You won't feel like you're adding more stuff to what you already have on, and you'll be able to reapply sunscreen throughout the day without disrupting your makeup.

Keep it in the car - Sunforgettable doesn't dry up or explode and they're no oils to separate from sitting in the heat (I've found some really gross sunscreen in my glove compartment!). Feel free to brush it on your hands, décolletages, and arm, too - no grease on your skin, no grease on the steeling wheel. And it's great for kids, since they don't have to do any rubbing and they won't be breathing in fumes from spray sunscreens. On Amazon for $37.

New Limited Edition Buys from L'Occitane

user-pic

L'Occitane, the ruler when it comes to shea butter, verbena, and almond - at least in my book! - always has great holiday gifts, limited edition sets, and stocking stuffers. Better yet, they've got a ton of value sets so you can load-up on favorites for yourself. Holiday Hands Trio ($25) and Shea Travel Treasures($40) are two of the current stand-outs and they've got a Shea Butter Hand Cream Collector's Edition ($26) that you can get someone who is truly obsessed with the cult product (not that I encourage hoarding empty hand cream tubes!). The limited edition design, inspired by traditional bogolan fabric, also comes on pocket-sized hand creams, lip balm tubes, and body cream jars. Another buy worth singling out is an online-only Sephora exclusive called Best of L'Occitane. It's $75 and valued at $104, which may not be the most jaw-dropping value, but it's stocked with great products and zero fillers.

Lastly, every year L'Occitane comes out with a fundraising soap for the NGO Orbis and this year it's a super cute airplane-shaped one ($6) that comes in baby blue or light pink. At a cost of just $6 each, they're near impossible to resist especially since all proceeds go to charity.

Heidi Klum's Inside-Out Halloween: What Lies Beneath

user-pic

Heidi_Klum_dead_body.jpg

When it comes to Halloween, the girl does not mess around! In the spirit of the holiday that celebrates all things creepy (ladies, let's keep the store-bought "slutty" costumes to a minimum this year, shall we?), I'm honoring Heidi Klum's latest kooky creation.

Rolled onto the red carpet of her Tao Las Vegas bash on a bloodied hospital gurney by two "doctors" for full-effect, Heidi's muscles-and-bones look took over four hours to airbrush on (she is also wearing a skin-tight bodysuit). Complete with shining bald-cap, searing red eyes, and unsightly yellow teeth, Heidi proves she has no problem getting real and embracing her undead side. I applaud her sense of daring! The gorgeous mom of three never fears looking ugly because she knows true beauty belongs within. Let's take a cue from Klum this year and remember, cliché as it may be, it's really all about what's on the inside.

Koh Gen Do Moisture Concealer for Professional: Don't Show and Tell

user-pic

koh_gen_do_moisture_concealer_for_professional.jpg

A makeup artist showed me a trick to cover flaws, like dark spots or pimples. You first cover the area with a dark concealer and then follow up with a lighter one on top - the flaw doesn't show through (the darkness totally covers it; the light topper blends with your skin tone)! But who wants to fuss with multiple concealers? We already have enough clutter on our vanity tables and not enough minutes in the day. Especially when the shades might not blend together well. Koh Gen Do, an advanced skin care line designed for professionals, has solved the dilemma. Their Moisture concealer works so well you will think it's magic!

This three-shades-in-one concealer compact is so creamy it ensures easy blending, and yet provides full coverage without that dried plaster look. The light formula is designed for sheer layering with no cakiness, so you can actually lay it on generously without looking like you're wearing makeup. It covers discolorations, dark circles, and blemishes, and can even be used to prime eyelids, contour, and highlight. Its moisturizing botanicals and amino acids combat dryness - a typical problem with many concealers.

Finally, I can truly cover up my hyper-pigmentation without resorting to peels or laser treatments for removal. Now that I know how to apply like a professional, I'll be dedicated to a truly professional concealer. At Barneys New York for $54.

The Muppets by OPI

user-pic
The image of The Muppets by OPI collection doesn't do it justice. Unfortunately neither does the Blackberry snap I just took of Warm and Fozzie (the shade on the top right) -- thank goodness I'm finally getting an iPhone next month!). I did want to show the image however because it's one of the most original shades I've seen. It's a metallic copper with very subtle flecks of redish-pink and green sparkles...it looks fantastic! I was dying to get my hands on this collection and it certainly didn't disappoint. The sparkly shades are perfect for holiday and while some of them are similar to Deborah Lippmann polishes I've found that these sparkly polishes are less of a hassle to remove (even Rainbow Connection, the one pictured on the bottom left - though the glittery ones are still a lot harder to remove than your regular polishes). Also, though the bottom shades look like they would leave your nails looking textured given their chunky pieces of glitter, they actually go on pretty smooth. The first coat of the glittery shades will be relatively sheer so the polishes are great for layering (Rainbow Connection is awesome over black/dark grey), but if you put three-four coats and move around the big pieces of glitter you'll end-up with a polish that's more or less opaque.

I don't know if this is breaking some rule, but I plan on wearing Gone Gonzo, the aqua glitter, to a Halloween party to go with my Cookie Monster costume! The collection officially launches tomorrow (the film is out November 23rd), and each shade retails for $8.50. Jump for an image of Excuse Moi which, aside from Warm and Fozzie, is another one I thought really stood-out. It's the second one on the bottom row from the left on the picture above. It's hard to tell from OPI's picture, but the sparkling shade has small flecks of rainbow glitter!
