Frugal Minerals: Ferro Cosmetics

user-pic
ferro_packaging.jpg
Ferro Cosmetics is a line of 100% Natural Mineral Makeup all of which is made in NYC. I was sent some of their Minis to try-out and they come packaged in these cute, colorful organza pouches some of which even have feather trimmings. Their blushes and foundations each retail for just $5 which means you can stock-up on a variety of colors and mix-and-match to suit your color-tone (I've found that their darker, brownish blush works best on the top-half of my cheekbone, while their more pinkish ones work best for the apple). Five mini blushes can also be bought in a set for only $19.95. As for the foundation, I personally prefer using liquid foundation and then setting it with solid powder, but Ferro's foundations give enough coverage that they work well as a complement to a liquid foundation or for someone looking for light-to-medium coverage worn just over makeup primer.

I can't really compare the look I got from Ferro to my usual LORAC and Sensai routine, because the real draw about this line really is the price and wide product choice (over 40 eye colors alone! Including both matte and shimmery). Not only are there dozens upon dozens of items for under $10, there are few skin tons that won't be able to find a color-match (and if you consider that the colors can be mixed-and-matched pretty much everyone is covered). They have an extensive e-commerce site as well. Check them out by clicking here!

CHANEL SPRING 2010 MAKEUP COLLECTION

user-pic
chanel les impressions.jpgchanelsoleiltan.jpg
The beauty trend is soft and feminine for Spring 2010 and Chanel's latest make up collection is no exception.  'Coco' Chanel left an indelible imprint on countless women with beautiful, practical and lasting designs that enhanced a woman's natural allure and LES IMPRESSIONS DE CHANEL -- a collection of clean, classic neutrals-- pays homage to her legacy.  The colors in the collection are infinitely wearable and effortlessly chic, like the mademoiselle herself!  I have not sampled any of the items yet but am ready for the pure, fresh look that was shown on Chanel's Spring-Summer 2010 Ready-to-Wear runway show. I'm most anxious to test out the Soleil Tan de Chanel, a sheer illuminating fluid.  It's 10 degrees here and I'm thinking if I look sunkissed, I might feel warmer. I'm planning a trip to the Chanel counter this weekend to play with the collection-- can't wait!  At Chanel counters worldwide or see the collection on Chanel.com here.

New Clinique Even Better Makeup SPF 15

user-pic

I haven't used Clinique in ages. They were one of my go-to brands back when I was in High School and my stress was at an all-time high (I still have nightmares about those damn college apps and SATS from time-to-time!). My skin would break-out so often that there were very few brands I trusted. Now that a more balanced lifestyle (and non-crazy hormones!), have settled in I can, luckily, be more experimental. Clinique Even Better Makeup SPF 15 ($24.50), a lightweight oil-free liquid foundation, however was just awarded a Beauty Biz Award for Breakthrough Product of the Year and I jumped at the chance to test-out a foundation from one of my old-time faves. First off it's available in 20 different shades -- I would suggest heading to Sephora to make sure you pick the right one as it's tough to tell online. The foundation gives full coverage (amazing at covering-up pores/blackheads), a smooth finish (I topped it off with a bit of powder to help set it in), and even though it's matte, combined with a touch of powder and a highlighter it gave me that natural glow look that I'm always looking for (a friend took pictures of me the other night when I had it on and even in the pictures there was a healthy shine that came through. Actually on the photos you couldn't even tell that I had anything on my skin..always nice!). Plus we can't forget the importance of SPF protection even when it gets cold out (and especially for anyone who is skiing over the holiday -- don't forget to load-up on your SPF, even on your lips!).

Shu Uemura Nobara Cream Cover Stick

user-pic

NOBARA_STICK_OPEN_packshot.jpg

I am one of those people who hoard things in their car (I could never live in Taipei or New York again because where would I put all my STUFF?).  Open my console and you'll find a make up bag with a spare set of my can't live without items for times I need freshening up.  My problem is the heat in Texas melts everything so I only keep lip gloss, handcream and sunscreen in there during the summertime.  Now that it's cooler, I can stash up again-- with items like this Nobara Cream Cover Stick Foundation from Shu Uemura.  This is a stick version of the cult favorite featuring a new formulation that's supposed to make it more flawless-- it looks the same to me though I do like the convenience of a stick foundation.  I played with this at Shu Uemura and loved how easily it glides on!  It comes in 13 shades which confused me, I actually need two different colors to make the perfect shade but then it'd cost almost $100 so I just walked away and will wait until I'm out of my current stick foundation.  You should try this if you're looking for a stick foundation-- $42.00 at Shu Uemura.com

Jane Iredale Liquid Minerals

user-pic
jare irdale.jpg
I went to the Eco-Luxe Expo a few weeks ago and stumbled across Jane Iredale. I mean how could I not be intrigued by this liquid mineral foundation!? Priced at $46 it comes in 18 shades and the beads you see suspended in the packaging are liposomes entrapping liposomes (basically small bubbles that contain active ingredients to treat skin). So in addition to imparting color to your face, the foundation helps minimize the size of pores and helps diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles (think Freeze 24-7). The spheres are suspended in a gel of aloe vera, lavender flower water, and vegetable glyucerin. The whole thing looks pretty sci-fi, but it applies just like regular foundation and the formulation is surprisingly lightweight and soothing (maybe it's the lavender...). Jane Iredale is pretty widely available, so I would suggest heading to a store and playing around with this foundation to find your perfect color -- with 18 colors to choose from odds are you can definitely hit the nail on the head and match your complexion.

Snob or Scam? Lancôme Oscillation Power Foundation

user-pic

lancomeoscillation.jpg

Ôscillation Power foundation, Lancôme's latest vibrating makeup, is self touted do-it-all foundation.  I bought into the vibrating mascara last year but realized after 3 uses that the vibration actually made the mascara dry.  Granted, this has SPF 21-- among the highest on the market but does a vibrating applicator make it a smoother more natural finish?

The applicator delivers 7,000 micro-oscillations per minute, which is said to help spread the powder evenly across your skin and buff it down to a matte finish.  I will have to try this out to see if it delivers as promised.  Have you tried this?  What do you think?  Lancome 'Oscillation Powerfoundation' Micro-Vibrating. Polishing. Mineral Make-up. SPF 21 here. $48

chantecaillepersonalpallette.jpg

Sylvie Chantecaille's personal pallette is a quad of gorgeous shades in golds, bronzes, and pinky roses-- so pretty against our slightly (fake) tanned skin!  I am bummed I'm missing Sylvie Chantecaille's PA at Neiman Marcus North Park on September 12th, if you are in Dallas, you must stop by and meet her!  This is one of the most luxurious cosmetic and skincare lines in the market, I love everything Chantecaille-- especially its Real Skin foundation, like its name, it just looks like real skin yet provides full coverage.  Real Skin is $62 at Neiman Marcus.com
