Shu Uemura Nobara Cream Cover Stick

NOBARA_STICK_OPEN_packshot.jpg

I am one of those people who hoard things in their car (I could never live in Taipei or New York again because where would I put all my STUFF?).  Open my console and you'll find a make up bag with a spare set of my can't live without items for times I need freshening up.  My problem is the heat in Texas melts everything so I only keep lip gloss, handcream and sunscreen in there during the summertime.  Now that it's cooler, I can stash up again-- with items like this Nobara Cream Cover Stick Foundation from Shu Uemura.  This is a stick version of the cult favorite featuring a new formulation that's supposed to make it more flawless-- it looks the same to me though I do like the convenience of a stick foundation.  I played with this at Shu Uemura and loved how easily it glides on!  It comes in 13 shades which confused me, I actually need two different colors to make the perfect shade but then it'd cost almost $100 so I just walked away and will wait until I'm out of my current stick foundation.  You should try this if you're looking for a stick foundation-- $42.00 at Shu Uemura.com

Jane Iredale Liquid Minerals

jare irdale.jpg
I went to the Eco-Luxe Expo a few weeks ago and stumbled across Jane Iredale. I mean how could I not be intrigued by this liquid mineral foundation!? Priced at $46 it comes in 18 shades and the beads you see suspended in the packaging are liposomes entrapping liposomes (basically small bubbles that contain active ingredients to treat skin). So in addition to imparting color to your face, the foundation helps minimize the size of pores and helps diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles (think Freeze 24-7). The spheres are suspended in a gel of aloe vera, lavender flower water, and vegetable glyucerin. The whole thing looks pretty sci-fi, but it applies just like regular foundation and the formulation is surprisingly lightweight and soothing (maybe it's the lavender...). Jane Iredale is pretty widely available, so I would suggest heading to a store and playing around with this foundation to find your perfect color -- with 18 colors to choose from odds are you can definitely hit the nail on the head and match your complexion.

Snob or Scam? Lancôme Oscillation Power Foundation

lancomeoscillation.jpg

Ôscillation Power foundation, Lancôme's latest vibrating makeup, is self touted do-it-all foundation.  I bought into the vibrating mascara last year but realized after 3 uses that the vibration actually made the mascara dry.  Granted, this has SPF 21-- among the highest on the market but does a vibrating applicator make it a smoother more natural finish?

The applicator delivers 7,000 micro-oscillations per minute, which is said to help spread the powder evenly across your skin and buff it down to a matte finish.  I will have to try this out to see if it delivers as promised.  Have you tried this?  What do you think?  Lancome 'Oscillation Powerfoundation' Micro-Vibrating. Polishing. Mineral Make-up. SPF 21 here. $48

Sylvie Chantecaille's personal pallette is a quad of gorgeous shades in golds, bronzes, and pinky roses-- so pretty against our slightly (fake) tanned skin!  I am bummed I'm missing Sylvie Chantecaille's PA at Neiman Marcus North Park on September 12th, if you are in Dallas, you must stop by and meet her!  This is one of the most luxurious cosmetic and skincare lines in the market, I love everything Chantecaille-- especially its Real Skin foundation, like its name, it just looks like real skin yet provides full coverage.  Real Skin is $62 at Neiman Marcus.com

Motivated Beauty: Motives by Loren Ridinger

The most fun part of being a beauty blogger is playing with make up under the guise of 'working'. I reserve Saturday mornings for beauty parties in my bathroom (and yes, I'm the only guest but I have enough fun for 100!) and I send my hubby off with our son to golf with a stern "I HAVE TO WORK PLEASE DO NO BOTHER ME FOR 3 HOURS". It's not my fault that my work is playing with beauty products but don't think it's not hard work-- applying make up precisely takes the skill of a steady hand and dedicated concentration :) This weekend I tested products from "Motives" by Loren Ridinger-- a custom formulated cosmetics line infused with antioxidants and vitamins that enhance a girl's beauty while nourishing her skin.  Loren set out to create her own line after years of using hundreds of products that left her unsatisfied.  The result is a high quality and revolutionary line of products that every woman, on any budget can enjoy.  She sent me her favorite items and I reviewed them below in the order of my favorites (I am not a democracy and I don't have to be fair ;)

motivesliquid.jpg1. Liquid Powder Mineral Make Up- I am obsessed with this product and used it both Saturday and Sunday. What impressed me most was the finish-- the liquid texture is lightweight but the minute you blend in to the skin it becomes a velvety powder texture without any kind of residue nor cakeyness or dryness. I tested it by applying 4 coats and the finish remained flawless. I love it because you can reapply throughout the day! Usually you can not reapply liquid foundation once you have powdered up-- since it is a liquid to powder-- you can keep adding layers to it depending on coverage. A must have for quick touch ups after work if you have social events to attend! I used "Tender beige" and it looked like my skin and even in the brightest of sun light, you could not detect I had 4 layers of foundation on! Most mineral make up comes in messy loose powder versions that make it hard to control, this is by far the most amaaaaaaazing mineral make up, ever! You must try and I promise you will love! Order the Liquid Powder Foundation for $25 here.  (Note: I pat layers of this foundation gently into my skin, do not rub as it dries to a powder finish and you don't want to rub it off.  No need for sponge or blending, just pat it on until desired coverage!)

motivespowder2.jpg2. Full Coverage Photo Finish Powder: If you have oily skin or live in very hot weather, try this powder. It is designed to be used as a foundation and gives a full coverage. Again, I layered it yet it did not feel heavy! I used the Neutral medium and it gave a slightly heavier coverage than the liquid. I even used it over the liquid foundation just for fun and it still looked quite natural! Order powder here, $24.50.

3. Pressed Eyeshadow (Bedroom Eyes)- This pearlized eye shadow goes on smooth and gives a fabulous sparkle to the eye. Loren sent me "Bedroom Eyes" and I swear I was flirty all night with the hubby! I have brown eyes but I think it would really look pretty with blue eyes, too. It gives a soft shimmer to the lids and I applied it alone to give a wash of color which made it look really natural. Pressed eye shadow $12.50 here.

4. Essential Lip Kit
-- Love this lip kit!  It has all the colors you need for work or play-- there are 9 shades per palette that you can blend or use alone and is really perfect for travel. I got the "Noon to Night" palette and the colors are fabulous and flattering!   It goes on like a lip gloss and has a gorgeous glimmer to the texture.  Lip kit $35 here.

FACE Stockholm Glitters for Summer 09

| Leave Comment
facestockholm.jpg My friend Jessica has a love affair with all things Swedish (she even moved to Sweden to attend design school for 4 years and brought a Swedish cutie back to LA with her!) but this is my first love with a Swedish product.  FACE Stockholm Spring 2009 Look was created by top Swedish artist, Sara Bourke and captures the purity and romance of the season with a little spunk. "The fresh, flirtatious lip, just-been-kissed flushed cheeks, soft healthy skin and sultry, glowing eye, combine a sweet sophistication with spirited femininity that passionately announces: 'Spring is in the air!'"
We tested the complete look read on for our review! (All at Face Stockholm):
lamerpowder2.jpgThe weather has recently turned muggy and every time I leave the house I feel like my face is melting off.  This is why in the summer months I like to switch to a lightweight powder foundation; it's easier to touch up and doesn't feel like I'm clogging my pores.  La Mer just came out with an amazingly lightweight powder foundation-- I got it last week and am in love with it!  You can control the coverage depending on how much you apply it and of course being La Mer it also includes skin treatment benefits along with SPF protection.  I love the way the texture of this powder; super soft and fine, and it feels like nothing on the skin no matter how often I re-apply!

A signature Radiant Ferment (no idea what that is but sounds like yogurt) continuously improves clarity and brightness to illuminate the skin. I was told there are airspun seaborne particles in it (again, no idea but am picturing foam bubbles from the ocean waves) - some of the lightest materials on earth - and that's what makes the flawless finish last all day no matter how much I sweat.  I slapped some of this on before running to my kickboxing session the other day and it held up really well.  I was even able to reapply afterwards without it gunking up.

The Treatment Powder Foundation SPF 15 is $95 and available now at select Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, and www.lamer.com
