Bobbi Brown Extreme Party Mascara

bobbi_brown_mascara.jpg When I read Bobbi Brown's new Extreme Party Mascara was re-layerable without clumping or flaking, I was intrigued.  My biggest issue right now is going out right after a day of running around without time to wash my face and re-do my make up.  By the end of a typical day (meeting with builders, contractors, tile people, marble people, cabinet people, building a house is a major pain!) I do not have time to re-do my face!  And with holiday parties and events starting at 6:30pm, I have resorted to sticking fake lashes on top of my mascara and running out the door.  I have never found a mascara that I can re-apply through out the day, it just doesn't exist.  Or so I thought.  I got a sample of Bobbi's new Extreme Party Mascara and was kind of skeptical, "yeah, uh huh, re-apply and not have weird clumps?  Sure."

So I tried it last week and the first coat was fine, very soft feeling and easy to apply.  The second and third coats, the same.  I went about my day and at 5pm, re-applied.  Uh... my lashes were still super soft, like I didn't have mascara on but I did.  So I applied 3 more coats, that's 6 coats and it was like the very first coat!  Kind of freaky and have no idea what is in it but this is very handy to keep in your make up bag ladies!  Go try it at the Bobbi Brown counter first for yourself, you'll see what I mean.  Have a great weekend, all!

Urban Decay Lingerie and Galoshes

I have not found my Holy Grail mascara yet. There are many mascaras that I really like, but they just don't hit all points for me. I know DiorShow is some of many people's HG, and I love it too...the first month or two. After that it seems to get really dry and clumpy. The closest to my HG mascara right now is Fresh's Supernova, but the only problem, for me at least, is that it raccoons very easily. So I decided the way that I could fix this problem was by waterproofing it. I had heard about the Urban Decay Lingerie & Galoshes Double-ended Mascara and liked how it had a primer on one side, and the waterproofer on the other. The consistency was a little thicker then a gel, and I think that really helped to prevent it from making the mascara look dry. Using the waterproofing side really did help my mascara stop from running and didn't make it look any different then it was before. And I felt that since it's the waterproofer coated over my regular mascara then it wasn't going to hurt my lashes like regular waterproof mascara does. I did feel like I got half gypped though, because I do not like the primer side at all. It was so fibrous that it made my mascara look spidery and would make my lashes turn in every which direction. I wish I could buy the waterproofing side by itself, but they don't sell it that way. The next product I may try to waterproof is Benefit's She Laq which actually comes with several brushes to waterproof nearly all your make up. The only thing I'm weary of is how water the concoction looks. I'm afraid it would look so drying. You can get Urban Decay Lingerie & Galoshes Double-ended Mascara for $18. What's your Holy Grail mascara?

Snob Steals and Deals: Laura Mercier "Renaissance" Collection

Laura Mercier is a great line of cosmetics for a natural look. This Laura Mercier 'Renaissance' Collection is great because it is such a good value. And it's like they compacted everything as well as they can for traveling. They made the concealer brush double ended, so that it's two brushes in one. And they have their fabulous secret concealer in a pot, with the setting powder underneath. It also comes with their Flawless Skin Day Creme with an SPF 15 in a deluxe sample size, a mini Black Thickening and Building Mascara, Pink Champagne Lip Glacé, and an eye color duo, all in cute cosmetic bag. Of course, kits are always a great value, but what's even better is that it's also on sale. So for $167 worth of product you only pay $38.90 for all of it. I mean, when does Laura Mercier really go on sale anyways?

Review: RMK Extra Deep W Mascara

It's hard not to laugh when standing at Asian cosmetic counters-- with products named "Happy Butter Lips" or "Shiny Face"-- do you blame me? When I saw this mascara at RMK-- the "Extra Deep W" (directly translated, they really mean extra long), I stifled a giggle and let the SA put it on me. Holy crap! Remember my Awake "Stardom" mascara obsession?  I vowed to buy the company if they ever discontinued it and when they did-- I bought a dozen tubes!  And if you must know, I did try to buy Awake but my hubby refused to comply.  Anyhoo, I've been searching for something comparable and guess what-- RMK has made something even better!  I bought several tubes at Mistukoshi in Taipei.  Just praying they never discontinue this!  Here is my review-- if you don't move moutains to try and get your hands on this mascara you are no beauty snob!  Rated from 1-5, 5 being best.

Wand- 5: My biggest compaint about mascaras are the large bristles, it gets messy and it's hard to reach the inner corner lashes.  There are mascaras made for the inner corner lashes but then they don't provide the same lengethning/thickening.  This wand is perfect, I feel like Goldilocks every time I use it!

Thickening- 3: There are two sides to the tube, the base side provides thickening but not as well as DIOR Show.  The only downside is this is waterproof-- I abhor waterproof mascara because it's so difficult to remove!  What's the point?  I don't bathe nor swim with make up on!

Lengthening- 5+: The other side of the tube is the reason I love this mascara. This is by far the most superior fiber mascara out there, the fibers are tiny so they don't look obvious or get messy.  You can also keep applying (I do 3 coats) without clumping, a major plus!  In fact, my lashes were so long that my dad (who never notices these things) asked me if I was wearing fake lashes!

I paid NT$1,250 (roughly $38USD)-- very pricey but worth every penny!  Extra Deep W Mascara at RMK counters in Asia and Selfridges in London.

Chantecaille Faux Cils Mascara: Alternative to Latisse?

chant.jpgI was never self-conscious about my lashes until Latisse came along. Suddenly as soon as the talk turns to beauty all anyone can talk about is their lashes! That said as much as I would love my lashes to be a bit longer, I love my blue eyes too much and won't risk them turning brown (plus I can't deal with any cosmetic products that require me to talk to my doctor). Also from what I gather Latisse does not grow new lashes, it just makes your current lashes grow longer (which makes for long thin lashes, no volume -- though read Beauty Snob Tina's review for more). As an alternative Chantecaille Faux Cils Mascara ($38) is a no-risk way to highlight your lashes (well, except that it's a bit pricey). The mascara wand just launched and it has got a great formulation. It only takes one coat to last all day (the color adheres incredibly well -- so at least the tube should last longer than other mascaras). The formula is also pretty much entirely clump-free, but it's so thick (but smooth!), that it creates serious volume and unlike other mascaras didn't cause my lashes to crack and fall when taking my makeup off. So grateful that I'm liking this mascara, because I was seriously freaking out when I heard the news that Prescriptives was going out of business since I swore by their mascara!

CHANEL "NOIRS OBSCURS" Collection

chanelnoir.jpg I am addicted to dark polish right now.  Have OPI's Black Cherry Chutney on today and I feel very vampire-ish-- really like how it makes my skin look pale and flawless.  Am very excited about the launch of CHANEL's "Noirs Obscurs" this month.  CHANEL does amazing dark polishes (remember Vamp!?!?) and shadow quads but I don't know about the black lipstick.  Ahead of her time as an arbiter of style and color authority, Mademoiselle Chanel recognized and revered the color black as a symbol of luxury, modernity, sophistication and seduction.

Today, Peter Philips creates a tribute to black with an avant-garde collection of trend-defining eye, lip and nail shades, uncovering the many nuances and undertones of this iconic shade. Not many of us can carry off an entire face of rouge noirs, so we suggest choosing one feature to focus on the face to go with the dark nails. All at CHANEL.com (Jump for colors and prices!)

Givenchy Phenomen 'Eyes Mascara in New Colors

Gosh how time flies! Around this time last year I was at the Fashion Week tents flipping through WWD when I came across a story about Givenchy's Phenomen'Eyes Mascara ($28). The mascara, as you can see from the photo above, has a small sphere with tiny bristles as its applicator allowing for a precise application. I use it along with a mascara with a regular applicator because if you rely on solely this one you'll obviously have to devote a bit more time to your mascara application. This is a great buy for volume and for those of us who have some tiny, hard-to-reach lashes (it's also good for touching up!). Now Givenchy has launched this mascara in three new colors -- Blue, Olive Green, and Plum. I checked them out at Sephora and the colors fit in well for me given how I use the wand. I could see myself applying black mascara and then adding some swoops of plum to add some extra pop!

Hot Lashes, Heats and Curls Lashes Instantly

hotlashes.jpg

Curling iron for your lashes, that's exactly what this is. It heats up the lash curler (there is a metal piece that the lash curler clips between), then you use it like normal. I was kind of scared to put something hot on my eye but it doesn't get that hot, it is a pleasant warmth like a hot towel on your face. Obviously the important part is the part that touches your lashes but the rest of the curler does get warm along with everything else. I kept it on for about 10-15 seconds and it really does work, just like a curling iron! At first, the lashes are a bit too curly but it relaxes a bit and stays curled and flirty for 24 hours! I used it without mascara because you're not supposed to curl your lashes with mascara on. Once I did put on mascara, it was kind of pointless because the Serge Lutens mascara I use curls my lashes, so I never actually use a lash curler. But if you have the good fortune of having naturally long lashes and just need a curl, this is the thing for you! A bit of warning though, you must use the curler it comes with because the rubber part is special and will not melt with heat, whereas, your own curler might get destroyed! At Amazon for $34.
