Celeb Fave: emerginC

emerginc.jpgemerginc 1.jpgemerginc 2.jpg

I've been hearing about various celebrities -- Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, Nicky Hilton -- all using products from this mysterious line called emerginC where vitamins are actually visible in the bottle! After some digging I found-out that emerginC was launched in 1996 with their signature vitamin C serum ($75). Now, just a few years later, they've got a whole line of active, advanced cosmeceutical products and professional treatments that they're claiming deliver rapid, visible results for all skin types. I'm totally fascinated by this line -- kinda of in the same way I was by all those crazy-fun mascaras that were making waves last year. I'm intrigued by two of their products in particular -- the vitaminc C serum which targets fine lines and crows feet around the eye area and the d-red daytime emulsion ($69.50), which targets red-prone skin (I grew-up thinking I had rosacia because I always had such red cheeks!). I'm a little nervous to try them though -- products described as having medical and cosmeceutical-grade ingredients always scare me especially because I'm still young and my face isn't caked with wrinkles. That said Nicky Hilton is around my age so who knows, maybe I'll be adventurous and give 'em a whirl.

Celeb Trend: Teal Eye Liner

RACHEL BILSON TEAL.jpg
All photos from people.com

I love trying out new shadows and eyeliners and I totally owe my current infatuation with teal eye liner to Beauty Snob Tina! Ever since she gave me Estee Lauder's Aqua Teal eye liner I've been nothing short of obsessed with the color -- so perfect for sunny spring days! Seems I'm not the only one -- Rachel Bilson looks cute with a touch of teal and though I could never pull-off the all over-color look that Demi Lovato has got going on, she wears it well. Besides Estee Lauder 's teal liner, Elizabeth Arden's Color Intrigue Gel Eyeliner in Ocean Teal is a great find. I usually stick with pencils, but this gel liner glides on super easily and makes for a very vivid color that complements my blue eyes nicely. It also includes an eyeliner brush and it's surprisingly long lasting (as is the Estee Lauder one) -- for the most part I didn't need to re-apply all day/night. I know a lot of people are scared of trying bold eye liner colors, but I've been pairing the teal with a mix of Prescriptives' Pongee, Bellini, and a touch of Sage and the result is a light airy eye that's truly nothing to be nervous about! How do you wear you color eye liner?

I had the chance to ask Ramy Gafni --Celebrity Makeup Artist and Eyebrow Guru -- what he thought about the above celebrity photos. See below for what the expert had to say about Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Garner, and Jennifer Connelly's eye brows along with some tips for achieving the right brow shape!
Ramy Gafni: What I see when I look at these photos of Jennifer Garner, Drew Barrymore and Jennifer Connelly is that your facial shape (round, oval, heart shaped or square) does not determine your brow shape. Some people are born with a thicker eyebrow, like Jennifer Connelly, and some with a less strong brow, like Jennifer Garner. The key is to take the brows you're born with and shape them into the most flattering shape for your individual facial type.

* A round face looks best with a stronger, straighter eyebrow which can add needed angles to a round face.

* An oval face looks best with a medium fullness and classic arch.

* A long face looks best with a stronger, higher arch.

* A square face looks best with a slightly rounder arch to add needed softness.

The above are just guidelines, however, as you have to take into account not just your facial shape, but also how thick or thin your "virgin" eyebrows are to begin with, how dense or sparse your brow hairs are, the size and shape of your eyes, how close set or far apart your eyes are, your age and finally, what look you are trying to achieve. Last year for 4th of July weekend I went out to my parents place in Southampton and we spent a day on my dad's boat. As I've said before I have very pale skin so in the middle of summer I need to be lathered up in tons of SPF. Unfortunately in the rush to get ready I somehow mistook my moisturizer for my sunblock and ended-up spending four hours on a boat not realizing I had no sun protection on! Needless to say the second I got off the boat I realized I was starting to turn red -- by the end of the day I looked like a tomato! I ended up collapsing from a mix of heat and dehydration soon after and was rushed by my parents to a doctor where I was told I was lucky that I didn't have permanent burn damage. Turns out I was saved by my makeup which, though minimal, had some SPF in it. Now with summer approaching I'm making a conscious effort to use, in addition to sunblock, makeup with SPF. I'm so excited for the new line hissyfit which will be launching in May. The line is made-up of four products -- hissyfit saving face SPF 50+, body double spf 30+, handy work spf 30+ and lip service spf 50+ to keep porcelain skin safe! More after the jump!

Celeb Bleach Blonde Hair: Snob or Slob

Lady Gaga is my latest celebrity obsession. I find her style so refreshingly unique and her dedication to looking "tranny-chic" is simply fabulous (plus what about her dedication to going pant-less!). She's confident and secure in her skin which love her or hate her I think is admirable (she actually grew-up in NYC and went to the Covent of the Sacred Heart school with my good friend Cristina Civetta who vouches that she's very sweet!). She's become so trendsetting in fact that Nicole Richie channeled her look when she appeared on the cover of BlackBook Magazine this month. Celeb Trend: Blue Nails

I'm loving all the ladies in blue nail polish lately. It's not the easiest shade to pull-off and on a day-to-day basis I'm not the type to get away with it, but two of my fave cocktail dresses are blue so when I wear them I love matching my nail color. Essie makes some wonderful blue shades -- above all the way to the right is Mesmerize from their Spring 2009 collection. It's a very saturated blue that has a hint of metallic. If that's too dark for you (I've found that darker colors look great against darker skin, while lighter shades of blue work better on lighter skin ladies like me), essie's latest collection is alllll about the blue! It's called The North Fork Collection and the three shades are called -- Sag Harbor, Greenpoint, and Shelter Island -- anyone who lives in NYC and goes to the Hamptons will smile when they see these colors. The colors fit so perfectly with the colors of the North and South Fork -- the serene nature, landscapes and clear blue summer skies. Like most essie shades you'll need two coats to get the full effect of the color and all three shades have medium shine. Fittingly my favorites are Sag Harbor and Shelter Island  -- two of my fave spots to go to when I'm out in Southampton.

Katie Holmes with babe-o-rama hair: Snob or Slob?

katiehomeswig.jpgI think Katie Holmes looks hot with her new long hair extensions (or is it a wig?). It's definitely more girly but her short hair had an edge to it that was very chic.  Maybe this is a wig and she can have her hair and eat it, too.

I was just contemplating a short bob wig last week when my friends told me I should cut my hair super short.  I had really short hair in my teens and again in my 20's (I cried for days after chopping off a foot of hair) and swore never to do it again.  But I'm tempted... I am itching for a change!

What do you think of the babe hair on Katie?  Snob or Slob?

angelina_jolie.jpgmegan_fox.jpg

Photos from people.com

Before I comment on Angelina Jolie's wonderfully plump lips, I'm going to preface by saying that I've always been on Team Aniston! Still, there's no denying that both she and Megan Fox have covetable sexy pouts. Luckily for us ladies with lips on the small-side, there's a new line of plumping lip glosses hitting Space NK and Scoop from Purple Lab and much to my surprise, they did plump my lips a bit! It's pretty instant actually -- a few seconds after you apply any one of the six shades ($20 each), you'll feel a tingly sensation from the Vitamin B3 in the gloss which is what stimulates the blood flow to the lips. Personally I'm not a fan of the tingle (it feels kind of like that sensation you get when you eat too many salty chips:-) ), but if you're self-conscious about your thin lips it's a small price to pay. Plus Purple Lab's lip glosses contain Hoodia Gordonii Extract, an appetite suppressant which I think is a clever idea. Unfortunately I was still hungry after applying the lips glosses. In fact if anything I was more hungry because the glosses actually taste good (especially the Red Sole shade which was inspired by Christian Louboutin shoes!). I don't mind though -- my boyfriend is always complaining that my glosses "smell weird," so the fact that he liked 'Red Sole' as much as I did was enough for me. On a side note, I usually only use glosses with brush applicators because I've found that foam applicators leave my lips icky and sticky, but I didn't actually have a problem with this foam one.

Snob Beauties: Who Looks Younger?

donnakarangp.jpg Is it me or is Donna Karan looking amazingly young for her age?   Gwyneth Paltrow is at least 2 decades younger but they look the same age (actually, Donna Karan almost looks younger than the pale blond except for the loose skin hanging from her neck). Whether it's the result of a good doctor or good genes, she looks fantastic! Who do you think looks younger? Gwynnie or Donna?  (this is of course totally unfair since they are decades apart but DK is def a contender!)

Red Carpet Beauty: Jennifer Aniston at the Oscars 2009

jenaniston09oscars.jpg JENNIFER ANISTON
by Makeup Artist Angela Levin for CHANEL

Beauty Inspiration:
"When I spoke to Jen before the Oscars, we decided we wanted to create a look that exuded modern glamour. She had just returned from vacation, and she had that relaxed, glowing feeling, which we wanted to display on the red carpet. She is the quintessential California glamour girl, and she was radiant as always on Oscar night." Angela tells us.

Beauty Tip: Angela prepped Jennifer's skin with CHANEL Hydramax + Active Moisture Boost Cream. She then used a foundation brush to apply CHANEL Lift Lumiere Firming and Smoothing Fluid Makeup in Beige all over the face. Under Jennifer's eyes, Angela applied CHANEL Lift Lumiere Smooth and Rejuvinating Eye Contour in Beige Lumiere. Instead of a traditional blush, Angela dabbed a bit of CHANEL Hydrabase Lipstick in Coco Red on the apples of Jennifer's cheeks. She then applied CHANEL Sheer Brilliance in Sunkissed around the tops of her cheekbones, closer to the eye, for a bit of shimmer.

Jennifer's eyes were a combination of LORAC eye shadows in Jade, Black, and Serenity, and a Tina Earnshaw shadow in Aubergine. Her lashes looked extra glamorous thanks to CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir-Black. On Jennifer's lips, Angela used CHANEL Aqualumiere Lipshine in Panarea, available in April. To complete the look, she dusted Soleil Tan de CHANEL Bronzer on Jennifer's skin, an exclusive creation product from CHANEL also launching in April.

Red Carpet Beauty: Lisa Rinna

Is this Raquel Welch?

Why does Lisa Renna look so strange? Her face is as stiff as her hair. And her lips, let's not discuss the lips that she says are natural. Um, yeah, okay.

I don't know why people do this to themselves, do they not own a mirror or have a best friend to say, "stop it, you look crazy!?"?

What do you think, snob or slob?

Red Carpet Beauty: Jessical Biel

jessicabielhair.jpgI am so glad Jessica kept her hair youthful and romantic on the red carpet (though I am not sure what she is hiding in her dress). Nothing worse than old lady hair on a hot young star!

To get the look, Frederic Fekkai's Adir Abergel gave us the scoop--

INSPIRATION: A very romantic almost victorian look, sexy and feminine.

HOW TO GET THE LOOK: Start out by applying FEKKAI COIFF BOUFFANT LIFTING & TEXTURIZING SPRAY GEL at the roots combined with some FEKKAI ALL DAY HAIR PLUMP on ends.

After applying the products take the blow drier and hand dry the hair completely getting all of the natural texture to come out.

Follow this by taking a 1" curling iron and curling random pieces. Once finished, pull up half of the hair allowing a few pieces to fall down and frame the face.

Braid two small braids on either side of the temples and pull them back.
To finish the look spray hair with FEKKAI GLOSSING SHEER MISTand FEKKAI SHEER HOLD HAIRSPRAY. THE PRODUCTS ALL BY FEKKAI:
Fekkai Coiff Bouffant Lifting & Texturizing Spray Gel ($23), All Day Hair Plump ($95), Glossing Sheer Shine Mist ($23), Sheer Hold Hairspray ($23)

Heidi Klum slicks it back for the red carpet

heidihairoscars.jpg
Heidi keeps it clean and simple with slicked back and sophisticated hair on the red carpet.  It's the perfect topping for her dramatic Roland Mouret dress and jewels.  What do you think? The inspiration behind Heidi Klum's Oscar beauty look began with her Roland Mouret gown. The graphic silhouette and bold red color of the dress required a softer, natural face to compliment the design rather than compete with it. Make-up artist Linda Hay wanted to bring out on Heidi's dramatic eyes and also incorporate the powder pink color of the coral and diamond Lorraine Schwartz jewelry on the lips and cheeks. Linda sought to create a look that was light and dewy while still modern and sexy. (jump to get the look!)

I am a bit disappointed in Amy Adams' hair tonight, she is so cute and young but her hair is a too pulled back for her face which makes her look pinched.  I do love her make up though, fresh and peachy tones with just a bit of drama in her eyes.  What do you think?

Frugal Snob Grammy Look: Queen Latifah

queen latifah.jpg

I have to admit that while I'm a big fan of mixing and matching drugstore with prestige finds I've never tried anything from CoverGirl. It's actually surprising because I love their off-beat choices of celebs for their campaigns. Ellen DeGeneres a CoverGirl -- genius! If you're going with a celeb over a model for an advertisement campaign I love when brands don't go for the same boring run-of-the-mill choices (kind of like Agent Provocateur picking Maggie Gyllenhaal, Daisy Lowe and Peaches Geldof...nice to see some new faces!). All that good stuff said I was able to get some tips from Sam Fine who did Queen Latifah's makeup for the Grammys. Along with the tips he gave us a list of CoverGirl products to use to achieve the natural look he helped Queen Latifah achieve -- seriously she looks like she's wearing no makeup! "Often clients make requests," says makeup artist Sam Fine. "Queen had one request: she wanted to look natural with wonderful skin, sparse lashes and a great brow. Most of the time was spent perfecting the canvas." See specific tips after the jump!

Grammy Look: Sheryl Crow

| Leave Comment

sheryl crow.jpgWhat Demi Moore was to this year's Golden Globes, Sheryl Crow was to this year's Grammys -- I mean how amazing does she look for 46! Her dress was by Toni Maticevski, though it was her Lorraine Schwartz jewels and her glowing skin that caught my attention! She just plays that carefree girl on the beach so well that every time I see a photo of her I think of her song "Soak Up The Sun"! A great product to achieve glowing skin is LORAC Perfectly Lit Oil-Free Luminizing Powder Radiant. It has a wonderful shine without all that over-glitter-ness you often find in products meant to impart shine. Also Prescriptives has just come-out with their Spring color collection and they have some wonderful new LipShine shades. The best part is if you do your Colorprint at a Prescriptives counter they can let you know which shade is the best fit for your specific skin palette!

Blue Eye Shadow: Snob or Slob?

Kristen Bell Blue eyeshadow.jpgtaylor_momsen Katherine Heigl.jpg
Photos from InStyle.com and People.com
I applaud all those that go bold with their makeup! For the most part I stick with black, gray, olive, brown, and neutrals when it comes to eye shadow, but every now and then I'll mix it up with a purple and blue. When I first looked at these three celeb photos I though that Taylor Momsen looked like she went a little over-board (too Madonna circa the 80s), but the more I look at it, the more I love it! What bothers me is the fact that she's wearing that much makeup at the age of 15, when this is really a look more suited for someone in their mid-20s. Kristen Bell and Katherine Heigl both look understated and glam and their looks both show us that you can wear color without going for an overly-dramatic look. For those looking to play around with blue shades, NARS has a wonderful selection ranging from light to dark and from matte to full of sparkles. I'm a big fan of their line of shadows -- I only wish they came with an applicator brush! What do you think about blue eye shadow -- snob or slob?

Celeb Trend: When Will Hippie Headbands Go Away?

Photos from InStyle.com and People.com

I've developed a serious aversion for these hippie headbands. When I first started seeing them wrapped around people's foreheads, I thought they were fun and even though I'm not the type to pull-off such a look, I loved the hippie-chic vibe. Now that the headbands are ubiquitous though they've lost their freshness and innovative quality -- both Mischa Barton and Nicole Richie are even selling them as part of their fashion lines! Also most of the time the bands looks very uncomfortable -- all the ones I've tried on, even for the short time they were wrapped around my head, were tight enough to give me a headache and some of my friends have even end-up with marks from the band cutting into their skin! May I suggest a regular headband instead? Some suggestions after the jump!

Celeb Trend: Crimped Hair

| Leave Comment

crimped hair.jpg
The images above perfectly sum-up what I think about crimped hair -- it's a hair trend best left to the young! I love Madonna, but crimped hair, in my opinion, only works on ladies in their 20s and 30s and nodior crimped.jpgt on those who were adults in the 80s (you had your chance to rock the look back in the day!). As to the frizzy-crimp looks, those should be left exclusively to runway models like the one pictured on the left at the Spring-Summer 2009 Dior Haute Couture Show. That said for Lindsay Lohan-esque crimped hair Redken Spray Starch 15 is great to apply when using a crimping iron. It protects your hair while mimicking the pattern of your iron. Plus it locks in your crimps to keep them frizz free!

Celeb Look: Long Bangs

kim_kardashian.jpg Photos from people.com
I was chatting with Mina Ferguson, the owner of one of my fave NYC boutiques Saada the other day and she gave me a great beauty secret! She told me that she was approaching a momentous birthday and that to freshen-up her look and cover-up some forehead wrinkles she decided to grow her bangs long. To begin with Mina looks young, but there's no denying that with the extra long bangs she now has an even more fun and vivacious vibe. Depending on the look you're going for I think long bangs go equally well with straight hair or with soft curls. The only drawback to long bangs is that you pretty much end-up having to cut your bangs every day. What do you think about long bangs?

Anne Hathaway's SAG Look

| Leave Comment
hathaway.jpg012609_hathaway_200X400.jpg

Photos from Instyle.com

Anne Hathaway is very hit or miss for me. When she wears very fashion-forward looks I usually don't think she pulls it off quite as well as when she goes classic like she did at the SAG Awards with this white column Azzaro gown. It's really her makeup though that made her look pop with glam! Her makeup was done by celebrity makeup artist Kate Lee who created a dramatic smokey eye by applying dark eyeliner to the upper lash line and blended it on the eyelid. To make Anne's eyes pop, she applied several coats of Lancôme Ôscillation Mascara in Black for a faux-lash effect -- perfect for her mesmerizing dark eye color! Hathaway has a soft, stained pout that was achieved by applying Lancôme Le Lipstique lip liner in Sheer Natural to the entire lip, then her lips were coated with Lancôme Color Fever Gloss in Seductive for a glossy finish. Now if only her hair team was as good as her makeup team! I love the natural, loose-wave look, but must she look like her hair was styled and that she then decided to role around in her bed?

White Metallic Nails

Kate on Oprah.jpg

One of the latest ways celebs are spicing-up their traditional black looks is with white metallic nail polish. Never would have thought this! I'm currently all over a vibrant red from essie called escapades, but I have to say Kate Winslet (pictured above with Oprah), makes the color look tempting. Kate's nails were done by Deborah Lippmann who used a shade from her collection called Rhapsody In White. Kate also wore this shade on her fingers and toes when she picked-up her two Golden Globes!

Cropped Hair: Who Looks Better When It's Short?

 Rihanna Short.jpgHolmes.jpg 031108_blair_400x400.jpg
Photos from Instyle.com -- from left Rihanna, Katie Holmes, Selma Blair

I love that so many celebs are going bold with short hair! I'm even more into this look now that I've looked at pictures from the Giorgio Armani Prive show where a few of the models came-out wearing these wonderfully sculpted black cropped wigs! I could never pull this look off myself because my hair is naturally frizzy and when it's short -- which it was when I was younger -- it takes way too much maintenance. These ladies however rock it! Selma Blaire and Katie Holmes are my fave -- Katie because I think short hair is the best possible complement to her angular face and Selma because she has such a sweet innocence about her that looks great with her tomboy-esque cut. Rihanna is gorgeous, but I don't think that this particular short crop is her best. I wish there was just a little bit more hair on the side of her face! Who do you think pulls off cropped hair best?

Celeb Beauty: Frosty Eyes

Blake Lively Shadow.jpgMeester.jpg

Images from People.com and Instyle.com

I'm loving the frosty white/silver eye makeup that young Hollywood is rocking lately! This look is especially great for people like me who are always a little weary of color -- it's so easy to cross the line and end-up looking like a clown (a safer alternative is using colored eye pencils)! Though anytime eye makeup is applied under and around the eye one has to be careful to exercise restraint. Chanel once made these wonderful cream eye shadows called Illuminating Eye Cremes (they unfortunately stopped selling them some time ago, but I have a few colors still left). I've never tried the complete frosty look myself, rather I'll apply eyelid base (Kanebo Sensai makes a great one -- I've found this step to be especially important when I'm layering colors and textures) -- then I'll apply a dark color like Silver Dust from Christian Dior ($24.50) and top it off with a white or silver (or both!), creamy eye shadow. I'll usually use a black pencil, but for more of an effect a frosty-colored eye pencil is great. Lastly, you can take your pinky and dab a little bit of frosty cream eye shadow along your lower lash line to tie your winter-appropriate frosty look together!

Random thought: Sometimes it's better to keep your clothes on

dversace.jpgI am completely traumatized by this photo. I've heard that Donatella Versace has battled drug abuse and anorexia her whole life but never imagined the toll it'd take on her body (I think it is also the result of a lifetime of sun worshiping-- another reason why I cover up at the beach and use nothing less than spf 60!).

Oh and by the way, she's only 53 years old! I'm so shocked I am actually speechless for once and don't know what to say about this. I feel really sorry for her; to abuse one's body to this extent is beyond my comprehension. Does she not own a mirror? What does her husband say about this?  She looks like an escapee from "Tales from the Crypt"!

You know, when I see my son's pants sagging, I compulsively pull it up for him because I can't stand anything sloppy and saggy. Right now, I'd like to pull her from the neck up and just tighten all that skin for her. I can't look at this any longer, am close to vomiting. Girls remember my advice, SUNSCREEN!

Actually, there is one thing I can do for her (that is if it's not too late)-- I will contact all of my Beauty PR reps and send her box loads of sunscreen.

Golden Globe Beauty: Angelina Jolie in Lancome

angelinajoliegg09.jpgI am on Team Aniston but since she was not in attendance last night, I'll have to settle for reviewing the current flame of Brad Pitt (I secretly cheered when neither of them won!  They're so smug sometimes it's annoying).  Celebrity makeup artist Mary Burton created the look for Angelina Jolie (okay, so she is stunning but still, something about her is very raunchy to me) and gave us an exclusive glimpse on how to recreate it.

Angelina looked ravishing in a sparkling, silver Versace floor-length gown (it's unnatural how quickly she lost the baby weight after giving birth to twins). Mary wanted to create a sheer, natural look and choose to focus on the eyes. She applied Lancôme Artliner in Noir to the lash line starting at the inner corner and blending out. To create drama Mary used two different mascaras, Lancôme Courbe Virtuôse Mascara in Black and Lancôme Ôscillation Mascara in Black and applied a few coats of both to add volume and length. She added just a touch of color to the apples of her cheeks by applying Lancôme Color Design Blush in Model Mocha with her finger. To finish the look, Mary used Lancôme Juicy Tubes in Spring Fling for a soft, pale pink, glossy pout. Angelina looked gorgeous as she walked the red carpet with her beau Brad Pitt.  So it took 6 kids and snagging the hottest hunk in Hollywood but she is finally smiling!

Golden Globe Beauty

Zellweger.jpgMegan Fox.jpgRumer Willis.jpg

Demi Moore.jpgCruz.jpgDrew Barrymoore.jpg

It's little surprise that most of the ladies at this year's Golden Globes opted for a natural look. The stand-out for me was Demi Moore -- boring dress, but flawless hair and makeup! I only wish she would help out her daughter Rumer Willis. Though Willis wasn't the biggest miss, that particular award -- in my opinion -- was a tie between Renee Zellweger and Drew Barrymore -- not surprisingly both ladies outfits ranked among the night's worst as well. I have to say though overall I love the natural look since my skin is very pale I usually go for it myself. Becca Mineral Bronzing Powder in Duende ($40) and LORAC'S Perfectly Lit Oil-Free Luminizing Powder ($32) are both great because they are lightweight and give a slight bit of color with a wonderful faux-glow (almost like a hint of sparkle)! For natural looking lips, Trish McEvoy makes 10 lips glosses ($22) that have just the faintest touch of color for a slight shine and lastly, I was recently sent some Boscia Fresh Blotting Linens ($10). Truth be told I have a whole stack of them -- they were a popular give-away in event goodie bags last summer. I finally tried them out not for oil, but for slight perspiration and they actually are very useful! Unlike a tissue they don't mess with your makeup so I imagine that these are red carpet essentials! What did you think about the natural makeup celebs were wearing on the red carpet?

What do all the sexy ladies pictured above have in common? Well, besides being fabulous they all count Korres products among their go-to ones! And seriously it's little surprise. I've written about their wonderful makeup wipes (not only effective, but their Pomegranate ones have the best smell!), and that's just where the Korres love starts! I recently tried Korres Shower gel in Vanilla Cinnamon (think a light Cinnamon stick from a mug of apple cider with a hint of Vanilla). Little to my surprise since Vanilla is my absolute fave scent (tied with Lavender), and Cinnamon is wonderful (in moderation) the gel was not only refreshing, but soothing (it has aloe) on my dry-prone skin! Also a good pick is the Korres Body Milk which I tried in Basil Lemon. The scent is surprisingly light (Korres has a wide variety of scents including Fig, Jasmine...plenty to choose from!). I've been using the Body Milk all over my body and there are only a handful of products that have scents that I like enough to do that! For more information you can check-out the Korres website.

Below is the second and final installment of 2008 Snob Trends!

healthy candle.jpg

11. Healthy Candles: Who knew that candles could be a health hazard? The folks at Lavanila thankfully! This year candle lovers could breath easy knowing that they weren't inhaling the chemicals contained in many traditional paraffin candles -- which release toxins and soot that cause damage comparable to second-hand smoking -- thanks to Lavanila's Healthy Candle .

12. Pricey Skin Care: At $400 for 6.7 oz Kanebo's Sensai Premier Body Cream is pricier than La Mer, so obviously this peaked everyone's interest! Haven't tried it for myself, but judging by the quality of the Kanebo products that I have tried, I imagine that it's simply divine..ahhhh:)

Thymes.jpg

13. Diffusers: Everywhere I go --bedrooms, bathrooms, restaurants, boutiques -- they're all over! This year we couldn't get enough of diffusers! Sweet Grass Farm, Verikira, Thymes, and Moments Waterbead Diffusers by Upper Canada Soap take the cake as the best!

essie.jpg

14. Neon Polish: The limited edition Essie Neon collection hit this summer and it was all the rage -- and come on, what screams fun in the sun like fluorescent nails!

15. Beauty with a side of Humor: Tongue-and-cheek packaging was all over the place this year. Who ruled over them all? Soap & Glory! The line comes courtesy of the same lady who founded Bliss and it's inspired by tabloid-style journalism!

Snob Trends of 2008 -- Part I

| Leave Comment

Sure there has been some bad and there definitely has been some ugly, but overall when it comes to beauty trends, 2008 was a smashing success! Check-out the first half of our Snob Trends of 2008!

clarisonic.jpg

1. Women Secretly Swear by their Clarisonic: I am OBSESSED with the Clarisonic! It is THE beauty product of 2008. It will clear your skin, make your pores smaller, and leave your face as soft as a baby's bum! Hands down worth every single penny it will cost you.

2. Mascara Wars: It was the battle between Lancome Oscillation, Estee Lauder's Turbo Lash, Givenchy's Phenomen 'Eyes Mascara , and SpinLash's Rotating Wand. In my book, it's Givenchy all the way!

3. Michelle Obama: Head-to-toe, the world was obsessed with every piece of Mrs. Obama!

4. Gadget Madness: Ladies went gaga for technology this year with everything from Zeno's Pro Acne Clearing Device, which uses heat to kill pimples, to Clean & Clear's Blackhead Eraserwhich uses a vibrating motion and foaming pad to exfoliate dead surface skin and remove dirt and oil.

courteney_cox.jpg

5. Crimson Lips: For when you feel like making a statement -- just don't forget to brush your hair or risk looking like a Courtney Cox-esque train wreck! Plus, loving this trend is the perfect excuse to indulge in Kanebo's Crimson Red shade, Ginza, which is made with 24kt-gold-infused silk!

Collier Strong's Red Carpet Beauty Trends

| Leave Comment

collier strong.JPGI've never been a big fan of award ceremonies beyond the fashion, beauty and jewelry trends. So what can we expect when it comes to beauty trends at this year's award ceremonies? L'Oreal Paris Consulting Makeup Artist, Collier Strong has identified the top red carpet trends for us! Trend 1: Focus On The Lips - Collier says "it's all about a beautiful bold lip! Whether it's warm or cool, a bold, opaque, red lip has a very sexy yet romantic feel. The eyes are as glamorous or neutral as your wardrobe dictates. During the day, eyes are kept simple; at night, opt for a darker look. Either way, eye makeup should be blended beautifully and brows should be perfectly groomed for an elegant look. Finish the eyes with long, beautiful lashes. Pair this look with clean, glowy makeup, achieved with foundation, concealer and powder. For cheeks, use a complementary color to the red of the lip that works with your skin tone. Apply on the apples of the check for a pop of color." Jump for More!

Kanebo Creates Treatment Makeup as seen in "The Spirit"

sensai.jpgI was so excited to read in WWD that Kanebo is gearing-up to launch Sensai Colours, a new treatment makeup line consisting of 22 eye, lip and cheek items with formulas that draw on water and silk to address moisturization and impart a silk-like glow! Sensai Colours lip items consist of two ranges: Lasting Treatment Rouge and Deep Moist Shine Rouge. Lasting Treatment is offered in 18 shades and is formulated to provide long-staying, vivid color with pigments coated with kanten, a jellylike substance obtained from red seaweed and often used as a thickener in Japanese food. The Deep Moist Shine items aim to moisturize lips with a translucent film of color with Phyto Volumising Oil. It is available in 12 shades. There will also be a silky lip gloss in two shades, a lip base with SPF 15, three eye shadow palettes each with four shadow choices, five cheek blush, two eyebrow pencils, two liquid eyeliners, two eyeliner pencils, six lip liner pencils, and a fragrance-free gentle makeup remover. After the jump see photos of Scarlett Johansson in the upcoming film, The Spirit, where she's decked-out in Kanebo!

Celeb Trend: Crimson Lips

Images from people.com.
I always want to pull of the sexy red lips, but it's so not me! I almost always wear a very pale pink gloss -- love Bourjois and Prescriptives Custom Blend -- both are non-sticky which is my #1 pet peeve with glosses! When it comes to lipsticks however I'm loving some of the celebs going ultra glam with their deep red lips, but there are definitely some that pull it off better than others. I think the only way this looks works is if you're going for something sleek and put-together. I'm not a fan of the disheveled hair that Courtney Cox paired with her lip color. I think it cheapens her look. Jennifer Lopez's lips are just a shade too deep for me, while I think Madonna (despite the awfulness that is the Louis Vuitton ensemble that she's wearing), look magnifique! Share your thoughts on who's snob and who is slob when it comes to pulling-off this trend!

SkinMedica TNS Night Eye Repair

I have met Brooke Shields so I know how good she looks, not just in photos and on camera but in flesh. She is 43 and looks amazing by allowing herself to age gracefully with a little help from good beauty products, of course! Her secret to firm eyes is SkinMedica TNS Night Eye Repair. We love our HD TV but it scares the bejesus out of celebrities, there is no hiding with cover-up and concealer anymore, you have to actually look good! I've tried this eye cream, although I swore I would use nothing else but my Chantecaille, it has proven itself to be just as good. It is lightweight, which is better to get through the skin, so I use it during the day too - I actually use just a tad on the tip of a Q-Tip as my final step in applying makeup, it is a gentle way to clean up under the eyes and gives me an extra opportunity to prevent aging! The ingredients include peptides, which as we know is all the rage in fighting aging and wrinkles, as well as Vitamins A, C & E and Hyaluronic Acid. I have not seen dark circles, puffiness or lines since I've been using it. The best part is, at $90 it is a bargain for achieving the dewy, lines free eyes that I thought $170 was buying me (that's the price of the Chantecaille stress repair eye cream). Get it at SkinMedica.

Interview with Heidi Klum, Very Sexy Collection

heidi_1_watermark.jpg

verysexy_shadow.jpgHeidi Klum was at The Grove yesterday to promote her new make up collection, Very Sexy, for Victoria's Secret. I was lucky enough to have been able to get an interview with her before she began the personal appearance event. She is as sweet and beautiful as you imagine her to be. And super tall. I took a picture with her and it was quite ridiculous, I am 5'6" but look 4 feet tall! Well, I was wearing flats and she had these impossibly high platforms on. In case you're wondering, she is wearing a dress by past Project Runway contestant, Rami Kashou. She says you can tell it is his design because of his signature sweet hear neck line. Hmm, I thought his signature was "draping". Anyway, it looks great with her wings!

She was at the Women's Conference, which I attended, so I asked her about that. She was moved by Maria Shriver's speech, like everyone else, she cried when Maria talked about getting in bed with her sick mother. She talked about how Maria feels like she always has to be strong, she is the rock for everyone in her life and Heidi identifies with that, she says that she is the same way, "It is a German thing", then added, "But the day was about empowerment and kicking butt!". At the conference, she was on the panel about being an entrepreneur so I asked whether her looks has helped or hurt her in business. I felt it was topical because it was something that was discussed at the conference. She began by saying that it hasn't hurt or helped her but then paused and said, "Well, it certainly hasn't made it any easier. I have to fight the battle that being good looking means you're stupid. But of course my looks has brought me all the things like Victoria's Secret, Sports Illustrated and being on TV as a host". It would truly be the dawn of a new era when someone who looks like Heidi is the Secretary of State or President! I was going to ask her what she does to look so good after 3 kids but I already know the answer. The answer is "nothing". People like Heidi are given the gift of just looking that way, plain and simple.

"Washington power women are in the spotlight and have to look and feel their best not only in person, but also on television.  In a world of High Definition television that shows every facial imperfection, makeup has to be flawless and refined, which can be incredibly challenging"

-Gordon Espinet, Vice President of Makeup Artistry, M·A·C Cosmetics Worldwide

"Red Lipstick is a great option as it commands attention and communicates a desire to be taken seriously. Blotting Powder is a must especially under hot lights as it keeps oil at bay and prevents shine. Mascara opens and defines the eyes, and M·A·C's Mineralize Skinfinish Natural is an essential as it gives a smooth, even finish without a cakey look."

M·A·C's talented Senior Artists created various beauty looks they feel will appeal to the women who are immersed in this hot political season and that can easily take them from a debate to an evening gala - no matter what skin tone or hair color you have - M·A·C has colors that will help make you look like the belle of the ball.

50 and Fabulous

| Leave Comment

If there’s one thing that Madonna is, it’s 50 and fabulous – am I right?? Not that I fool myself into believing that it comes easy to her. One look at her toned arms and I know this mama works for her bod and youthful face!

Madonna.jpg

Luckily, the makeup maven behind Madonna’s new album cover, shuemura Artistic Director, Gina Brooke, gave us the low down on how to get Madonna’s look!

Brooke says that the Hard Candy cover was all about the eyes and that she was inspired by images taken in the sixties by photographer Sam Haskins (Cowboy Kate, Five Girls, and November Girls). All it takes is 4 easy steps and you may just come out looking like a modern version of a 60s superstar yourself!

So here goes….

katie_holmes2300.jpg

Is anyone else creeped out by the Holmes/Cruise family? It's like sweet Katie Holmes went to bed one day and woke up in a strange Sci-Fi movie where Tom Cruise is Jesus and she is married to him. Run Katie Run!!! But enough of what I think, what does everyone think of her new sleek bob which eerily resembles her 19 month old daughter's do? Snob or Slob?

Coco avant Chanel

coco.jpg

Since this month pop quizzes center around movie trivia I thought I’d stick with the trend and dish the gossip on a bio-pic about one of my favorite ladies of all time – Coco Chanel. Who doesn’t love her? She is a fashion icon and I fully expect generations of women after me to continue to worship her. According to IMDB, the movie is still in pre-production but is slated to come out sometime in 2008. Coco has been cast and will be played by French beauty Audrey Tatou. I think the casting is genius and I am totally excited that they choose an actual Frenchwoman to play her. I will definitely be going to see this movie when it comes out. What about you guys? What do you think about the casting choice? Will you go see Coco avant Chanel?

Who doesn’t love Heidi Klum? We here in the Snob world are great fans of hers. So when the chance came to ask Linda Hay, Victoria Secret’s Head Makeup artist some question about the look she helped create for Heidi at the Emmys we were more than ready! The look was an amazing old Hollywood glamour style. MSN Style Studio’s Helena Faccenda did Heidi’s hair for the night. Heidi’s makeup was done with pieces from her new line for Victoria’s Secret, Heidi Klum Very Sexy Makeup Collection. Keep reading for some great style advice from the lady who makes Victoria’s Angels shine.

Beauty of the Week: Kelly Lin

kelly%20venice_versace.jpgThe ever fabulous Kelly Lin, Hong Kong's hottest actress, as seen on the red carpet at the Venice Film festival where her latest film was an official entry in the competition. She is wearing a Versace gown with Bvlgari jewels and a vintage clutch her best friend, the Bag Snob, gave her years ago. I am so proud of her and can't wait to see this new film!

Kathy Hilton - Beauty Snob?

Post by Beauty Snob Michelle

Oh the things I do for you guys! Right now I smell like the earthiest, grossest spa around all because I was determined not to judge a beauty product by its cover. Let me first say that I have nothing against Kathy Hilton. I think she lets her kids run a little wild and I think her reality show “Who Wants to be a Hilton?” was a seriously misguided career choice but otherwise, I’m okay with her. Now she has her own line of beauty products. I tried them out because I thought “Hey, if my daughter was Paris Hilton, I’d have a lot of wrinkles and frown lines too. Maybe she’s taken all her money and came up with a really quality beauty product. I’m not going to judge because of who she is and where she’s choosing to sell her products (HSN).” I really like Jonathan Products for my hair and if I remember Blow Out correctly, Jonathan started selling it on infomercials. This is, unfortunately, not the case with Kathy Hilton Personal Beauty Spa. I tried both the “Hot Effect” Sculpting Treatment and the “Cold Effect” Firming Pack. Both need to be shaken to achieve the temperature effects. The Sculpting Treatment refused to get hot, no matter how long shook it for so I gave up and opened it anyway. The mudlike substance bubbled out of the top and down the side of the container – good thing I was in the bathtub. I stirred it up with the plastic spatula and smeared some on my thighs and some on my arm. This was supposed to tone and revitalize the skin. Maybe it’s something that has to be used for a period of time, but all it did for me was dry, harden, smell bad and then make itself really hard to wash off.

I took a deep breath and tried the Firming Pack next. This one was slightly better. No real odor and it actually achieved the desired temperature when I shook it up. It, however, sat on my neck like Nair and then left a gross residue. It did however leave my skin softer than before.

I imagine these are products that are supposed to be used over a period of time (that’s just a guess – the packaging doesn’t really have much information on it) but after my first use, I definitely won’t go back to try again. Kathy Hilton’s Personal Beauty Snob debuts on HSN on July 31st.

Heidi Klum hopes for "An Instant" hit on infomercials

| Leave Comment

heidiklumwwd.jpg

Gorgeous Supermodel turned Supermom/Supermogul Heidi Klum will soon add infomercials to her growing stable of television credits. The 34-year-old model-mogul will be the face of In An Instant, a new skin care line that will be launched this fall in partnership with direct-marketing giant Guthy-Renker via infomercials.

"Heidi Klum is going to attract a very different target market in our opinion than Cindy Crawford, Susan Lucci, Jane Seymour or Victoria Principal," said Greg Renker, founding principal of Guthy-Renker, referring to spokeswomen for various brands in Guthy-Renker's portfolio. "Heidi Klum has a young, hip following that watches her show on Bravo."

He must be talking about fans like Kelly and I, we love Heidi and are obsessed with Project Runway but that does not mean we will buy whatever slop she plans to sell on tv. I have yet to find a quality beauty line sold via infomercials (and trust me, I tried them all- from Cher to Victoria Principal. I was young and finding my way, what can I say?). Though Renker would not disclose Klum's contract, it is estimated to be in the millions. What about you, will you be trying Heidi's new beauty venture?

Sharon Stone: Did she or Didn't she?

sharondidsheordidntshe.jpg

For a woman about to turn 50 next year, Sharon Stone looks amazing. What's even more amazing is that she claims she has not had any "work" done. I don't know about you but I think there's definitely been a bit of nip and tuck here and there or why else would she resemble a wax figure? And she certainly doesn't look as natural as other 50 year olds who are really aging gracefully without help. Don't get me wrong, when I am 50 I am sure I'll be first in line for maintenance plus I will detail it all out for you (you'll have to wait a couple of decades though)! I am just annoyed that celebs pretend they are genetically superior to the rest of the world when they are secretly getting cut, pulled and injected, just like everyone else.

So what do you all think? Did she or Didn't she?
