Beauty of the Week: Kelly Lin

kelly%20venice_versace.jpgThe ever fabulous Kelly Lin, Hong Kong's hottest actress, as seen on the red carpet at the Venice Film festival where her latest film was an official entry in the competition. She is wearing a Versace gown with Bvlgari jewels and a vintage clutch her best friend, the Bag Snob, gave her years ago. I am so proud of her and can't wait to see this new film!

To get Kelly's look, try Future Skin Foundation from Chantecaille and Benefit's Dandelion blush!

Kathy Hilton - Beauty Snob?

Post by Beauty Snob Michelle

Oh the things I do for you guys! Right now I smell like the earthiest, grossest spa around all because I was determined not to judge a beauty product by its cover. Let me first say that I have nothing against Kathy Hilton. I think she lets her kids run a little wild and I think her reality show “Who Wants to be a Hilton?” was a seriously misguided career choice but otherwise, I’m okay with her. Now she has her own line of beauty products. I tried them out because I thought “Hey, if my daughter was Paris Hilton, I’d have a lot of wrinkles and frown lines too. Maybe she’s taken all her money and came up with a really quality beauty product. I’m not going to judge because of who she is and where she’s choosing to sell her products (HSN).” I really like Jonathan Products for my hair and if I remember Blow Out correctly, Jonathan started selling it on infomercials. This is, unfortunately, not the case with Kathy Hilton Personal Beauty Spa. I tried both the “Hot Effect” Sculpting Treatment and the “Cold Effect” Firming Pack. Both need to be shaken to achieve the temperature effects. The Sculpting Treatment refused to get hot, no matter how long shook it for so I gave up and opened it anyway. The mudlike substance bubbled out of the top and down the side of the container – good thing I was in the bathtub. I stirred it up with the plastic spatula and smeared some on my thighs and some on my arm. This was supposed to tone and revitalize the skin. Maybe it’s something that has to be used for a period of time, but all it did for me was dry, harden, smell bad and then make itself really hard to wash off.

I took a deep breath and tried the Firming Pack next. This one was slightly better. No real odor and it actually achieved the desired temperature when I shook it up. It, however, sat on my neck like Nair and then left a gross residue. It did however leave my skin softer than before.

I imagine these are products that are supposed to be used over a period of time (that’s just a guess – the packaging doesn’t really have much information on it) but after my first use, I definitely won’t go back to try again. Kathy Hilton’s Personal Beauty Snob debuts on HSN on July 31st.

Heidi Klum hopes for "An Instant" hit on infomercials

Gorgeous Supermodel turned Supermom/Supermogul Heidi Klum will soon add infomercials to her growing stable of television credits. The 34-year-old model-mogul will be the face of In An Instant, a new skin care line that will be launched this fall in partnership with direct-marketing giant Guthy-Renker via infomercials.

"Heidi Klum is going to attract a very different target market in our opinion than Cindy Crawford, Susan Lucci, Jane Seymour or Victoria Principal," said Greg Renker, founding principal of Guthy-Renker, referring to spokeswomen for various brands in Guthy-Renker's portfolio. "Heidi Klum has a young, hip following that watches her show on Bravo."

He must be talking about fans like Kelly and I, we love Heidi and are obsessed with Project Runway but that does not mean we will buy whatever slop she plans to sell on tv. I have yet to find a quality beauty line sold via infomercials (and trust me, I tried them all- from Cher to Victoria Principal. I was young and finding my way, what can I say?). Though Renker would not disclose Klum's contract, it is estimated to be in the millions. What about you, will you be trying Heidi's new beauty venture?

Sharon Stone: Did she or Didn't she?

sharondidsheordidntshe.jpg

For a woman about to turn 50 next year, Sharon Stone looks amazing. What's even more amazing is that she claims she has not had any "work" done. I don't know about you but I think there's definitely been a bit of nip and tuck here and there or why else would she resemble a wax figure? And she certainly doesn't look as natural as other 50 year olds who are really aging gracefully without help. Don't get me wrong, when I am 50 I am sure I'll be first in line for maintenance plus I will detail it all out for you (you'll have to wait a couple of decades though)! I am just annoyed that celebs pretend they are genetically superior to the rest of the world when they are secretly getting cut, pulled and injected, just like everyone else.

So what do you all think? Did she or Didn't she?

Lancome announces a new face

I was watching “Little Children” this weekend and the whole time all I could think about was how beautiful Kate Winslet was. I mean like really, really beautiful. And her character in the book is often described as dumpy and not that attractive. But she looks awesome throughout the whole movie. That’s why I was so excited when Lancôme announced that she was going to be their latest spokesperson. In a world full of Paris and Nicoles, where what’s left of Lindsay’s used and abused body is doing Jill Stuart ads, it really refreshing to see Winslet getting a beauty campaign. Because to me at least, she’s flawless. I don’t want to see some airbrushed stick figure who only got the campaign because she makes the cover of US Weekly every issue. (This is not an issue with US. I in fact love US. I have a stack of them about a year old in the corner of my living room.) I want someone who I can relate to, even in the smallest sense. I want someone like Kate, who I feel I could sit down with over a nice cup of tea and talk about life with and she’d set me straight and tell me to dump the jerk I was dating and not worry if I wanted to eat another piece of cake and I’m totally getting off track. Yay Lancôme! And yay Kate Winslet. I look forward to September when we’ll actually get to see the ads!

Tinsley hearts Dior

tins.jpg

Tinsley Mortimer, social girl about town, has been tapped by Dior to be Dior's Beauty Ambassador of the US, joining the ranks of iconic blonde beauties Charlize Theron and Sharon Stone. Tinsley has always been a self professed fan of Dior Beauty, most notably Dior's Addict Ultra-Gloss, which she ranks as one of her all time top favorites (we love this ultra shiny and sexy gloss too, especially the Chiffon Beige, a great color to complement your summer bronzer!). As the new face of Dior Beauty, Tinsley will work with the brand's US marketing team and help launch products by appearing at select Dior Beauty events. We understand the power of celebs as Charlize and Sharon to sell beauty products but a girl known for very little other than showing up at parties for photo ops? Don't get me wrong, Tinsley is a lovely girl (she is actually cuter in person) but will American consumers 1.)recognize her or 2.)care? That is to be determined. Dior Ultra Gloss at Sephora.com

The party of the year and she wears this???

Oh Kristen. As hard as you try, I don’t think they’re going to make another Interview with the vampire. And while you still look quite young, you don’t look young enough to be the never-aging child vampire. I don’t like this (in case you can’t tell.) although I do love the color of the skirt. It's an amazing color and on a better dress I think Kristen would have looked stunning. But the dress, vintage Yves Saint Laurent, looks like it’s falling apart and the shoes totally don’t go. The dress is far from the worst part and neither is the overly elaborate headpiece. (Although I do hate it and have strong feelings on headpieces in general, especially when they seemed tailored to match shoes.) The worst part for me is her actual hair. She seems to think that placing a giant flower on her head makes it okay to not wash or style it. If you’re determined to wear a headpiece to one of the top see and be seen parties, said headpiece should enhance your hairstyle, not distract people from your lack of it. But enough from me. What do you guys think? Snob or Slob? Am I just missing something about the outfit?

Also, does anyone else think that her boyfriend needs a haircut, a new pair of shoes and a suit who’s coat and pants match?

Get better soon Marc!

marcjacobs07.jpgYesterday WWD reported that Marc Jacobs has checked himself into rehab. He flew straight from Paris where he was showing his Louis Vuitton collection to Arizona where he entered rehab for drugs and alcohol for the second time after spending seven years sober.
While we might not always love Marc’s designs, we will always love him and we here at BeautySnob wish him the best for a speedy and safe recovery. He is a tastemaker and a trendsetter and we couldn’t picture our fashion and beauty worlds without him. Get better soon Marc!
