Red Carpet Beauty: Amy Adams

I am a bit disappointed in Amy Adams' hair tonight, she is so cute and young but her hair is a too pulled back for her face which makes her look pinched.  I do love her make up though, fresh and peachy tones with just a bit of drama in her eyes.  What do you think?

Frugal Snob Grammy Look: Queen Latifah

I have to admit that while I'm a big fan of mixing and matching drugstore with prestige finds I've never tried anything from CoverGirl. It's actually surprising because I love their off-beat choices of celebs for their campaigns. Ellen DeGeneres a CoverGirl -- genius! If you're going with a celeb over a model for an advertisement campaign I love when brands don't go for the same boring run-of-the-mill choices (kind of like Agent Provocateur picking Maggie Gyllenhaal, Daisy Lowe and Peaches Geldof...nice to see some new faces!). All that good stuff said I was able to get some tips from Sam Fine who did Queen Latifah's makeup for the Grammys. Along with the tips he gave us a list of CoverGirl products to use to achieve the natural look he helped Queen Latifah achieve -- seriously she looks like she's wearing no makeup! "Often clients make requests," says makeup artist Sam Fine. "Queen had one request: she wanted to look natural with wonderful skin, sparse lashes and a great brow. Most of the time was spent perfecting the canvas." See specific tips after the jump!

Grammy Look: Sheryl Crow

sheryl crow.jpgWhat Demi Moore was to this year's Golden Globes, Sheryl Crow was to this year's Grammys -- I mean how amazing does she look for 46! Her dress was by Toni Maticevski, though it was her Lorraine Schwartz jewels and her glowing skin that caught my attention! She just plays that carefree girl on the beach so well that every time I see a photo of her I think of her song "Soak Up The Sun"! A great product to achieve glowing skin is LORAC Perfectly Lit Oil-Free Luminizing Powder Radiant. It has a wonderful shine without all that over-glitter-ness you often find in products meant to impart shine. Also Prescriptives has just come-out with their Spring color collection and they have some wonderful new LipShine shades. The best part is if you do your Colorprint at a Prescriptives counter they can let you know which shade is the best fit for your specific skin palette!

Blue Eye Shadow: Snob or Slob?

I applaud all those that go bold with their makeup! For the most part I stick with black, gray, olive, brown, and neutrals when it comes to eye shadow, but every now and then I'll mix it up with a purple and blue. When I first looked at these three celeb photos I though that Taylor Momsen looked like she went a little over-board (too Madonna circa the 80s), but the more I look at it, the more I love it! What bothers me is the fact that she's wearing that much makeup at the age of 15, when this is really a look more suited for someone in their mid-20s. Kristen Bell and Katherine Heigl both look understated and glam and their looks both show us that you can wear color without going for an overly-dramatic look. For those looking to play around with blue shades, NARS has a wonderful selection ranging from light to dark and from matte to full of sparkles. I'm a big fan of their line of shadows -- I only wish they came with an applicator brush! What do you think about blue eye shadow -- snob or slob?

Celeb Trend: When Will Hippie Headbands Go Away?

I've developed a serious aversion for these hippie headbands. When I first started seeing them wrapped around people's foreheads, I thought they were fun and even though I'm not the type to pull-off such a look, I loved the hippie-chic vibe. Now that the headbands are ubiquitous though they've lost their freshness and innovative quality -- both Mischa Barton and Nicole Richie are even selling them as part of their fashion lines! Also most of the time the bands looks very uncomfortable -- all the ones I've tried on, even for the short time they were wrapped around my head, were tight enough to give me a headache and some of my friends have even end-up with marks from the band cutting into their skin! May I suggest a regular headband instead? Some suggestions after the jump!

Celeb Trend: Crimped Hair

crimped hair.jpg The images above perfectly sum-up what I think about crimped hair -- it's a hair trend best left to the young! I love Madonna, but crimped hair, in my opinion, only works on ladies in their 20s and 30s and nodior crimped.jpgt on those who were adults in the 80s (you had your chance to rock the look back in the day!). As to the frizzy-crimp looks, those should be left exclusively to runway models like the one pictured on the left at the Spring-Summer 2009 Dior Haute Couture Show. That said for Lindsay Lohan-esque crimped hair Redken Spray Starch 15 is great to apply when using a crimping iron. It protects your hair while mimicking the pattern of your iron. Plus it locks in your crimps to keep them frizz free!

Celeb Look: Long Bangs

I was chatting with Mina Ferguson, the owner of one of my fave NYC boutiques Saada the other day and she gave me a great beauty secret! She told me that she was approaching a momentous birthday and that to freshen-up her look and cover-up some forehead wrinkles she decided to grow her bangs long. To begin with Mina looks young, but there's no denying that with the extra long bangs she now has an even more fun and vivacious vibe. Depending on the look you're going for I think long bangs go equally well with straight hair or with soft curls. The only drawback to long bangs is that you pretty much end-up having to cut your bangs every day. What do you think about long bangs?

Anne Hathaway's SAG Look

Anne Hathaway is very hit or miss for me. When she wears very fashion-forward looks I usually don't think she pulls it off quite as well as when she goes classic like she did at the SAG Awards with this white column Azzaro gown. It's really her makeup though that made her look pop with glam! Her makeup was done by celebrity makeup artist Kate Lee who created a dramatic smokey eye by applying dark eyeliner to the upper lash line and blended it on the eyelid. To make Anne's eyes pop, she applied several coats of Lancôme Ôscillation Mascara in Black for a faux-lash effect -- perfect for her mesmerizing dark eye color! Hathaway has a soft, stained pout that was achieved by applying Lancôme Le Lipstique lip liner in Sheer Natural to the entire lip, then her lips were coated with Lancôme Color Fever Gloss in Seductive for a glossy finish. Now if only her hair team was as good as her makeup team! I love the natural, loose-wave look, but must she look like her hair was styled and that she then decided to role around in her bed?

White Metallic Nails

Kate on Oprah.jpg

One of the latest ways celebs are spicing-up their traditional black looks is with white metallic nail polish. Never would have thought this! I'm currently all over a vibrant red from essie called escapades, but I have to say Kate Winslet (pictured above with Oprah), makes the color look tempting. Kate's nails were done by Deborah Lippmann who used a shade from her collection called Rhapsody In White. Kate also wore this shade on her fingers and toes when she picked-up her two Golden Globes!

Cropped Hair: Who Looks Better When It's Short?

I love that so many celebs are going bold with short hair! I'm even more into this look now that I've looked at pictures from the Giorgio Armani Prive show where a few of the models came-out wearing these wonderfully sculpted black cropped wigs! I could never pull this look off myself because my hair is naturally frizzy and when it's short -- which it was when I was younger -- it takes way too much maintenance. These ladies however rock it! Selma Blaire and Katie Holmes are my fave -- Katie because I think short hair is the best possible complement to her angular face and Selma because she has such a sweet innocence about her that looks great with her tomboy-esque cut. Rihanna is gorgeous, but I don't think that this particular short crop is her best. I wish there was just a little bit more hair on the side of her face! Who do you think pulls off cropped hair best?
