Celeb Look: Shiny Hair

k walsh.jpgj alba.jpgj biel.jpg

I used to always watch Pantene commercials and marvel at how shiny the hair featured in them was (my hair sure as hell didn't look as shiny as it did in the commercials when I last tried Pantene! Actually the only time my hair naturally looks that shiny is when I haven't washed it in awhile...and that's not too appealing). Turns-out one can't rely on shampoo/conditioner alone to get a healthy hair shine (kind of like how we need help getting that "natural" dewy glow look). I recently tried-out some hair shine finishing sprays for the first time and two stood-out as particularly effective at not only increasing shine, but also enhancing color and controlling frizz. Celeb Trend: Braided Ponytails

blake-lively.jpg

I'm all about braids on a bad hair day: pig tails, French braids, braided ponytails -- whatever. On the red carpet however -- when you're a celebrity like Blake Lively and have had professionals fussing over your hair for hours -- I don't understand why you would opt for this look. If you block out Lively's face, jewelry, and outfit and just focus on her hair, wouldn't you think she was heading to the gym!? I vote slob on this trend. What say you -- Snob or Slob?

Celeb Fave: Spong Skincare

jambes-lourdes_sm.jpgI have the worst knots in my leg (thank you bad posture!). Unfortunately getting them out takes either deep tissue massages or my trainer rolling them out with a roller -- both of those solutions leave me sweating bullets and completely bruised (not sexy!). Of course I would love a pain-free solution to get rid of my knots, so I was intrigued when I heard that Scarlett Johansson was a fan of a product called Jambes Lourdes Anti-Fatigue Leg Cream ($110) from Sponge Skincare (a line developed by an OB/GYN in Greece), to sooth her tired legs. The cream is made with "the rare herb mastic's healing properties along with calendula and sage to rejuvenate the skin, helping to reinforce vascular circulation and promote muscular relief." I've been using this on my legs for the last two weeks and while I've still had to get my legs rolled-out, my trainer noticed that my applying this cream post-hot shower helped reduce some of the swelling and knots around my knees. Very little of the cream is required (it's very greasy and light), and it has a long-lasting moisture. The scent is very soothing as well so it has helped ease me into sleep (that said it's a very, very distinctive and long-lasting smell so make sure to sniff before you buy!). Celeb Fave: BeautyBlender

image-sponge.jpgI was watching a segment on TV where they interviewed Kim Kardashian's makeup artist and he kept bringing up this cosmetic sponge applicator that he was obsessed with called BeautyBlender. I was intrigued and some research let me to discover that Gwen Stefani, Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Rosalyn Sanchez, Shakira, Alicia Silverstone, Brandy, and even Diana Ross (among many, many others), are also fans.
What makes this applicator so different - besides that it's a fab hot pink shade - is that it's elliptically-shaped with suede texture. The rounded curves of the brush supposedly help achieve a clean, even finish with no hard or visible edges, while allowing easier access to the under the eyes area and the sides of the nose. So basically bouncing or stippling the BeautyBlender sponge on your face is supposed to help blend in foundation or concealer without lines and streaks. I haven't tried this myself, but I'm guessing it def works better than fingers (which is what I use for the most part!), though I'm not sure that it's that much different from a triangular sponge. That said pink suede seems pretty hard to resist:-).

Celebrity Skin Care Secrets from Renée Rouleau

In my 20+ years of being an esthetician, I have had the honor of working with celebrities (Melissa Rycroft (pictured here), Jessica Simpson, Ashlee Simpson and Ali Landry, to name a few) who have trusted me to get their skin looking and feeling its best. Here is what I know to be true.

Secret #1 They are loyal to their skin care products
Being in the public eye, the worst fear a celebrity has is being ridiculed for the way they look--especially their skin--which is so closely tied to self-esteem. So when it comes to their home care skin routine, they won't change if something is working well. They don't want to risk possible negative reactions from experimenting with too many skin care products. But I do believe it's not a good idea to be switching all the time. If you find something that works, stick with it.

Molly Sims: Get the look!

mollyshair.jpgWe love Molly Sims (she will be guest blogging for us next month!)!  She looked gorgeous in this fun, flirty yet sophisticated hair style at the 6th ANNUAL FRIENDS OF EL FARO EVENT she hosts every year.

We got the details From Fekkai stylist, Angee,on how she achieved this look so you can try it at home!

First, Angee sprayed FEKKAI COIFF™ BOUFFANT LIFTING & TEXTURIZING SPRAY GEL to the wet hair to add body and fullness. She then blow-dried the hair with a diffuser to add volume.

Next, she curled the hair with a 1 ½ iron and placed the curls in pins.

After ten minutes she took down the pins. Then, Angee tossed the hair with her finger tips. She finished the look with the FEKKAI SHEER HOLD® HAIRSPRAY to hold the style in place and loosely combed the head band back for easy maintenance, creating a fresh and styled look.

Hair of the month: Drew Barrymore

drewhair923.jpg

Wow! Check out Drew's hairdo from last week (she dyed it back to normal for the Emmys). Dare I say it? I love this on her. Only Drew Barrymore can carry off such a nutty style (actually this reminds me of my favorite manga comic book, Daughter of the Nile). It's edgy, crazy and fun, just like Drew herself. Wonder how the straight edge line was achieved? Colorist Tracey Cunningham said "I used clear foils and a stencil that I made out of paper to get everything to line up." Drew often ends up in the worst dressed pages of gossip mags but I think being unique is way better than the rest of the Fem Bots in Hollywood. What about you?
