I love the modern shag! If bangs didn't require so much maintenance (and if I wasn't worried about hair in my face causing a breakout), I would jump at this cut. I know a lot of people have or are thinking about getting this look, so I asked Woodley & Bunny's co-owner and artistic director Erin Anderson for some tips to get the style and texture of the modern shag pictured on the above stars. Here's what she had to say!
  • Get a great "shag inspired" cut from your stylist
  • For this texture, layer Sachajuan Straight Out Gel with Sachajuan Ocean Mist. The Straight Out Gel provides moisture and smoothness while the ocean mist gives volume, hold and a matte finish.
  • After product application, squeeze hair to press in product, shape with fingers or twist a few large sections and pin up. Diffuse or air dry.
  • When dry, use a little Sachajuan Hair Wax to define and detail.
For those not familiar with Sachajuan, they're Sweden's fastest growing premium hair care line and Woodley & Bunny is the exclusive U.S. distributor. Learn more here.

Golden Cheeks: Snob or Slob?

evalongorialgoldencheeks.jpg

Make up artists are loving the golden cheeks and have been applying on many a celeb lately.  I prefer a healthy pink flush to the cheeks myself and think too much gold looks sallow, strange and kind of dirty?!?  What do you think of golden cheeks?  Snob or Slob?
If you want to try the look, I suggest using a bronzer with a hint of mauve or rose to it-- like Bobbi Brown's new bronzing powder in Maui or Antigua

80s Flashback Look: Tips from Edward Bess

Kate Moss and Misha Barton from people.com; RTW Marc Jacobs Fall 2009 from style.com

I first came across Edward Bess' line at Bergdorf Goodman a few months ago. Bess is a very young makeup expert (he's only 23!), but he has already worked with stars like Jennifer Aniston, Salma Hayek, Kate Moss, Cate Blanchett, Ashley Olsen, Elizabeth Hurley, and Brooke Shields! Ever since Marc Jacobs' last runway show I've had the 80s flashback look on my mind so I asked if Bess could give us some tips on how to get an updated version of the 80s look and here's what he had to say--
"Let everyone know you're with the band by pairing a bold red lip with super smokey eyes. I love Eternal Passion lipstick ($29) on the pout and Night ($29) to dress the eyes for the ultimate rocker-chic look."

When I asked him for a tip on getting the smokey eye look he said --

"Apply Night eyeshadow along your top and bottom lashes and blend outwards for a sexy smokey effect. Smudge with Luxury Eye Brush ($38) to look like a pro." I think the tip of pairing the smokey eyes with a crimson red is spot-on. What do you think -- Will you be going 80s this summer?

Get the Look: CFDA Awards

A number of Lancôme's celebrity makeup artists worked with celebrities, models, and designers the night of this year's CFDA Fashion Awards. Here's the scoop on a few of them!

Celebrity makeup artist Sandy Linter worked with Michelle Trachtenberg. She accentuated the actress' eyes by first applying Effacernes Waterproof Protective Undereye Concealer Porcelaine I as a shadow base, under eye base and skin corrector giving Michelle a silky soft complexion. Sandy then lined her eyes with Le Crayon Kohl in Black Coffee giving it a smudged effect for a soft contour. To accentuate her eyes even more, Sandy applied Color Design Eye Shadow in Click for a smoky look and Bikini Golden on the inside. She then coated Michelle's eyelashes with Ôscillation Vibrating Mascara to give them an extended effect and finish the look. More after the Jump!

Evolution of a Beauty Snob: Michelle Pfeiffer

michellep.jpgInStyle magazine's June cover girl Michelle Pfeiffer is 50, fit and fabulous.  She says she has to work hard at her figure though she can't push herself as much as she'd like to.  She makes it look so effortless to me-- if this is what 50 looks like I can't wait!  I am obsessed with the older stars right now, it's so interesting to see how everyone is aging and how they are handling it.  According to Make me heal.com however-- Michelle has had a nose job, cheek injections, eye lift, botox, restylane and maybe even a facelift.  This is freaking me out, does it really take all that to look this good?

How do I age like this? Christie Brinkley is not normal

christiebrinkley.jpgI'm sorry, this is a 55 year old woman?  I know she's had 'help' but my gosh it is so natural and she still has the little crinkles around the eyes that make her look normal unlike so many pulled too tight actresses nowadays.

In the 80s she was always done up with red lipstick and stiff hair as the uptown girl but now she keeps it natural and simple with messy ponytail, nude make up and a pretty glow-- I think she actually looks better now than ever!

I am going to find out who her doctors are and will file them away in my little black book of beauty secrets.  I mean she still looks totally like herself, just a wee bit older but no way does she look 55!  I know photo shop probably was used but still, look at her!  No amount of photo shopping will make Joan Rivers look anything remotely like this!  There is really no tip or any reason for this post other than the fact that I want to age like Christie.

Evolution of a Beauty Snob: Jennifer Garner

jengarnerbeautysnob.jpg This is the perfect example of how one can age gracefully and beautifully.  Not that Jennifer Garner is old but see how cute she looks at every age!?!?  She's always age appropriate and never looks like she's trying too hard.  The bright red lips worked when she was 20 but she's softened up with beige-y pinks and nudes now that she's pushing 40.  Her eye make up is stronger (so important to have the little eyeliner lift when you don't want to resort to Botox) and she's glowing with just a touch of light bronzing powder.  I still love my Prescriptives custom blend bronzer best, it's not too orange-y nor does it sparkle, it just gives me a really nice color.  The consistency is also very lightweight and not cakey nor powdery!  Go to your nearest Prescriptives counter because this is not something you can do online.

Celeb Trend: Braided Ponytails

| Leave Comment
kate-hudson.jpg From people.com

The past few days have been horribly dreary in NYC -- non-stop frizz-inducing drizzle and rain. I've been wearing my hair in a french braid, up in a tight bun, or in a braided ponytail because I don't have the energy to keep fussing over frizz after I spent an hour blow drying and straitening..so frustrating! Above Kate Hudson and Diane Kruger show off their loosely braiding ponytails -- how fab? When I try this look I don't look quiet as effortlessly fierce unfortunately, but I found that with some anti-frizz (Living Proof or Frederic Fekkai), some wax for beachy texture (Bumble and Bumble's Styling Wax is great..I've been using it since High School!), and a volumizer (like Jonathan Product Create Volume Thickening Foam), to add some soft waves and hold, it's pretty easy to achieve. The look is a life-saver when you need to look presentable, but the weather is just not corroborating with you!

b lively.jpgbarbar cordless.jpg

If there's one thing women most often want to know when it comes to hair is how to achieve Blake Lively's loose, effortless curls. I've never been much of a fan of her on Gossip Girl (I'm team Blair all the way!), but I have to say that I too am a fan of her hairstyle. When I was in Spain I picked up an issue of French Cosmo and read about Barbar 1900 Cordless Combo ($145) and was immediately intrigued (includes both a 1" flat iron and ¾" curling iron on the same quick charging base). I've since been using it every time I add curls to my hair. Not only does it heat-up quickly (I only use the curler, I use a CHI to straighten -- it heats up to 356°F in less than three minutes), but the fact that it's cordless makes it amazing for summer when I'm traveling a lot more (no need to worry about voltage, plugs, etc...). As to how to achieve the look I've been following some fabulous tips that I got from Redken Session Stylists, Giovanni Giuntoli. See what Giuntoli suggests after the Jump!

Who wore it better? Kate Gosselin's hairdo

I'm sorry, I know everyone is sick of Kate Gosselin but these photos are way too funny and I had to share.  US magazine tested out the Kate hairdo on our fave celebs and I can't decided who looks best because they all kinda look good in this bizarre style!  I guess when you're beautiful you can shave your head and still look hot!  Who do you thinks looks the best???  My vote is for Angie-- the awkward trashy style somehow doesn't look out of place for her.  What do you think?
