Jimmy Jane Ember Massage Candle

user-pic

jimmy_jane_ember_massage_candle.jpg

Spice up your Valentine's Night with this very sexy and ingenious candle from Jimmy Jane. The candle comes in a holder with a pour spout, when the candle wax melts it becomes a massage oil that pours onto the body. I told you it was sexy!! My first question was, "Ouch! Isn't it hot?" But the temperature is just right, it is on the warmer side but is totally tolerable so it isn't as S&M as you would think. The soy based wax is made of plant extracts and oils making it the perfect natural emollient for a lovely massage. The Jimmy Jane Ember Candle, Coriander + Quince comes with 3 little candles plus matches for $38.50.

Godiva Launches Candles

user-pic

I live a handful of blocks from a Godiva shop and it's a near-daily struggle to restrain myself from their decadent, smooth, chocolaty goodness (and those chocolate-dipped strawberries!). I'm not saying that candles could ever, ever, EVER be a substitute for chocolate which has forever been my weakness, but if they could the just-launched ones from Godiva would be about as good as it gets. I'm writing this (as I munch on a Righteously Raw Maca Bar of Chocolate), seated next to their Limited Edition Strawberry Rose candle ($25) and while the scent may not conjure-up images of chocolate, there is something silky smooth and seemingly edible about the smell that the candle releases when it burns. The scent is light and refreshing however and even though it does smell edible it won't induce a chocolate craving (unless you have one already that is...). The packaging is in line with what we know from Godiva and the price is surprisingly not bad. Other flavors include Milk Chocolate Truffle and White Chocolate Magnolia. See more here!

Alexa Rodulfo Candles

user-pic

BOIS BLANC.jpgBOIS D'ALEXA.jpg

Note to reader: I take candle recommending very seriously. These are, after all, scents designed to rub my olfactory bulbs the right way. So it's with a heartfelt two thumbs up that I endorse Alexa Rodulfo's decadent new candle collection. The quintet of scents--Bois D'Alexa, Bois Sauvage, Bois Blanc and Bois D'Amour--are the brainchild of Alexa, an equally talented and much-sought-after makeup artist extraordinaire (she is the go-to-girl for New York's bold-faced girls about town). Anyone who picked up a copy of People or Us Weekly last October may recall how absolutely stunning Ivanka Trump looked in her wedding photos. Here's a secret: Alexa did her makeup, as she does for all special occasions. But back to the candles: each boast a woody base that is oh-so-cozy, perfect for the harsh winter nights much of the nation is experiencing right now. The candle wax is made and poured in Grasse, and the votives come in matching wax and chic French glass. I've given these candles test runs in my house and can say they are divine (each will burn down evenly for approximately 50 hours). My favorite? Bois Blanc, which happens to be Ivanka's preferred candle as well!

$69 available at all Trump Hotel Spas as well as Colette Paris, Liberty of London and Haven in Dallas, TX.

Upper Canada Soap Aroma Cocktails

user-pic
aroma.jpgUpper Canada Soap has just come-out with some cocktail inspired waterbead diffusers that come in drink-inspired packaging. It's kind of ironic that I love these because I'm not a big drinker at all (except if the drink involves champagne...), but I will so be displaying one of these diffusers come New Year. I've actually added getting a silver tray like the one pictured above to my agenda just so I can display it in the same way (and by getting I mean raiding my mom's silver...ahh the joys of living only a few blocks from your parents!). Each of the six drink-inspired kits contains a cocktail shaker filled with waterbeads, one bottle of fragrant solution, one stir stick, and a cocktail glass for display and use. Just fill the cocktail glass with waterbeads and the fragrant solution of your choice (Pomegranate Martini, Pina Colada, Appletini, Blueberry Daiquiri, Champagne Mimosa, Cosmopolitan), and stir. I'm dying to get my hands on Champagne Mimosa (could there be a more delicious drink!?), but was able to catch a whiff of Pomegrante Martini and wowza does it actually smell like the drink! For day-to-day I don't know that I would love to smell this, but for a party I couldn't think of a more festive and fun smell:-)

New from Dermalogica

user-pic
derma 2.jpgdermalogica.jpg
About two weeks ago Dermalogica had a little event in their new Soho boutique and I was able to check-out some of their recently launched products. Prior to going to the store I had actually never tried anything from the line, but I was super impressed by how knowledgeable the staff was. One of their skin therapists performed what they call face mapping on me (it's free...you can just go in and request it!), which divides the skin into 14 zones and based on the skin therapists' observations and your concerns specific products are recommended. There was not one question, whether it be about my skin and its level of hydration and texture or about a specific ingredient in one of the Dermalogica products, that the woman who helped me wasn't able to answer -- may seem small, but I couldn't even begin to count how many times I've been beauty product shopping and unable to get a coherent product answer! As for their new products, they've got three of note. Jump for more!

DayNa Decker Holiday Buys

user-pic
dd.jpg200003063.jpg
It's impossible to be on the beauty floor at Bergdorf Goodman and not be drawn to the DayNa Decker section. The beauty maven and former Ford model has one of the most enticing lines of bath and body products, along with a variety of very distinctive candles. I'm loving their Botanika collection for holiday because it's heavy on green and apparently my friends agree -- I've already been to two holiday parties where the hostesses were burning Decker candles in various sizes ($36 to $84)! You really only need one candle for the room and unless it's a gigantic room, even a 3oz candle will suffice to envelope the space in a warm aroma (makes up for the lack of fireplaces in NYC!). While you're at it, I'd also check-out the Botanika Essence Moisturizer which has this great revitalizing quality to it. I've only got a little sample pouch, so I've just been applying it on my arms and hands, but the smell is so soothing and it's also got Argan Oil in its formulation which has replaced Shea Butter as my new thing to look-out for (it's so hydrating!).

Life: A New Range from Space NK

user-pic
LIFE CANDLES.jpg

I have to preface this post by saying that there are incredible markdowns going on right now on Space NK products. Candles are on sale for less than $10 at their namesake locations, at Bloomingdale's, and online (they're not in a special sale section so just got to Space NK-branded product section and browse!). Space NK is discontinuing some items and re-packaging others hence these amazing markdowns (I just picked-up a few more new things at Bloomies -- they slashed prices by 75% and then a few days ago took an extra 50% off that price! I got bath soaps for $2, candles for $7.50 and body lotion for $5 -- all in original packaging!). Now from the old to the new. Space NK, started by beauty guru Nicky Kinnaird, has just launched a new range of everyday essentials all of which are free of parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate, and silicone. The products come in a range of scents (Tomato Rhubarb, Mandarin Grapefruit, Gingered Woods, Patchouli Suede, Midnight Jasmine), as well as unfragranced ones. Each fragrance is target towards a specific part of the day and the price points are slightly more mild than Space NK-branded items. Note the candles, which are the highlight of the collection, are available at Space NK boutiques now and I've also seen them at the Space NK section at Bloomingdale's (though the official launch isn't till July 8 which is when they'll be available online). The rest of the collection is hitting this fall, but I thought I would highlight it now so you can plan your Space NK shopping accordingly -- it's definitely worth leaving some room in your budget for this line!  Learn more after the jump!

Healthy, Natural Candles

user-pic

I'm a candle fanatic. Absolutely love having a burning candle near me when I'm home (even though nearly all my furniture is very modern and made from big, heavy wood so I'm always a smidgen nervous!). A lot of people don't realize however that traditional paraffin candles are one of the major sources of indoor air pollution and release choking toxins and black soot upon burning. When released into the air we breathe, these pollutants are as harmful to our health as second-hand tobacco smoke. Luckily there are some wonderfully natural and 100% SAFE candles. Check-out some of the finds below!

Hillhouse Naturals.gif

Hillhouse Naturals started off as a family business selling to local markets, so the line's got that authenticity and pureness to it. Their candles are long-lasting, smell wonderful, and given how they're packaged are a relatively good price at $24.50 for an 8oz candle. Their Living Green Collection is particularly noteworthy because it's made from 100% natural soy wax blends (soy wax is biodegradable, non-toxic, environmentally-friendly. It's also less likely to trigger allergies). The collection is also fragranced with plant-derived essential oils (plus wind power was used to create the packaging!). More after the jump!

Snob Trend of 2008 -- Part II

user-pic

Below is the second and final installment of 2008 Snob Trends!

healthy candle.jpg

11. Healthy Candles: Who knew that candles could be a health hazard? The folks at Lavanila thankfully! This year candle lovers could breath easy knowing that they weren't inhaling the chemicals contained in many traditional paraffin candles -- which release toxins and soot that cause damage comparable to second-hand smoking -- thanks to Lavanila's Healthy Candle .

12. Pricey Skin Care: At $400 for 6.7 oz Kanebo's Sensai Premier Body Cream is pricier than La Mer, so obviously this peaked everyone's interest! Haven't tried it for myself, but judging by the quality of the Kanebo products that I have tried, I imagine that it's simply divine..ahhhh:)

Thymes.jpg

13. Diffusers: Everywhere I go --bedrooms, bathrooms, restaurants, boutiques -- they're all over! This year we couldn't get enough of diffusers! Sweet Grass Farm, Verikira, Thymes, and Moments Waterbead Diffusers by Upper Canada Soap take the cake as the best!

essie.jpg

14. Neon Polish: The limited edition Essie Neon collection hit this summer and it was all the rage -- and come on, what screams fun in the sun like fluorescent nails!

15. Beauty with a side of Humor: Tongue-and-cheek packaging was all over the place this year. Who ruled over them all? Soap & Glory! The line comes courtesy of the same lady who founded Bliss and it's inspired by tabloid-style journalism!
