Retro Ice Bags

I’m a total klutz! I fall down all the time. Sometimes I’ll just be standing somewhere and I’ll fall over for no reason at all. I swear, it’s the weirdest thing. As a consequence I’m always nursing a sprained or bruised or something. So when I was browsing through the web the other day and came upon these retro ice bags, I knew I had to have them! They come in three different prints; pink checked, one that says “Party’s Over,” and one that names a bunch of different cocktails. I prefer the pink checked one, but there is a certain humor to be found in bringing a “Party’s Over” ice bag to your roommate who’s nursing a mysteriously bruised shin after a night of drinking. From Gal Pal, they’re $13 each and can be found at shopintuition.com

Green Tea

We all know the health benefits of drinking a lot of water. That’s been well documented and we’ve talked about it here a few times. I love water as much as the next gal, but sometimes it gets old and you want something with a little flavor in it. I recommend trying to work some green tea into your everyday routine. Green tea has been a long time staple in my diet. It’s rich in anti-oxidants and contains ECGC, which has been proven to attack cancerous cells. Green tea is a miracle elixir of sorts and has been used in Asia for hundreds of years to promote health and help cure ailments and its benefits are beginning to be appreciated by Western society. Multiple studies are beginning to prove that consuming green tea in the early stages of cancer can actually have a positive effect on the cancer. Setting aside those studies, green tea is good. And it’s good for you. So whether you pick up a hot cup to warm yourself from the chill outside or choose the chilled kind for a refreshing afternoon pick-me-up, you’ll be doing your body good!

Look Good, Feel Better

| Leave Comment

I want to take a moment to talk about a program that means a lot to me. It’s called “Look Good, Feel Better,” and it’s a program put on by the American Cancer Society for women who are going through chemotherapy and radiation. It shows women of all ages how to put on makeup and style their wigs so they achieve a natural look while going through treatment. More importantly, it teaches them not to feel out of place, or less like a woman in a society that relies so heavily on physical beauty. I’ve attended one of these sessions with someone very close to me and I know that it meant a great deal to her to be treated like a woman instead of a clinical case study. The program also gives women a chance to socialize with others going through the same thing in an environment that’s less formal than a therapy group. I’m telling you guys about this because a lot of you are talented in makeup or hair, or know someone who is. I know this program means a lot to so many women and the more people who know about it, the better the potential it has to grow!

Just like mom made?

A first glance, Philosophy’s all in one shampoo/conditioner/ body wash seems like a great idea. It’s great for traveling, so you don’t have to bring multiple bottles of liquids past suspicious security guards in the airport. It smells amazing, just sweet enough to invoke the cinnamon buns smell, but not sweet where you’ll be afraid of dogs following you down the street. Then you try it and realize it’s probably the most useless product invented. When you’re using it as a body wash it is thick and gooey and barely foams up, and leaves you to wonder if you're actually getting clean at all. But that was nothing compared to the when I tried it on my hair. I have stick-straight hair that wouldn’t stay in a knot of I tied one in myself and this made my hair one big rats nest. I could almost hear my poor follicles breaking as I tried to rinse it out and my hair was an uncontrollable mess for the rest of the day. If you’re looking for that yummy smell without all the hair damage, I recommend Philosophy’s Cinnamon Buns Lip Gloss. It’s the same smell but it does far less damage to you.
