There's nothing like busting out a gloss that gets your date's attention (there's never any harm in drawing attention to your lips!), and aside from Modelco's Lip Lights ($28) which have LED lights in the cap, Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker lip glosses ($24.99 for 3) are the most attention-grabbing. Each gloss has a sparkly cap and the words Sexy Motherpucker emblazonment on the packaging (believe me, you'll get a comment on that if your date notices...!). There are two sets of three available and all the glosses are plumping (so expect a slight tinkle). I was pleasantly surprised that the colors were light on shimmer (my biggest peeve with drugstore lip glosses is that they're usually overly shinny), and color and while they do have a taste, it dissipates quickly. The formulation is slightly sticky, but given the price and packaging they're still a sweet deal. On a side note, Soap & Glory was started by the same woman who founded Bliss and all of the packaging in the line has this kind of fabulously cheeky humor!

The theme extended to the flower arrangements, the decor, and even the food (rose-flavored cakes, macaroons, ice cream...)...pretty fabulous! Plus I love a man who can pull-off a touch of pink:-) Rose is one of the most delicate, refreshing, and delectable scents (roses are even edible after-all!), so it's fitting that every year since 1996, Jo Malone has released their Red Roses Fragrance Chronicle ($95) which house the Red Roses Cologne along with three acompagning scents that can be layered, around Valentine's Day. Jump for More!

Two of the rose-flavored cakes at the Touch of Pink celebration! The one on the left is made with rose-flavored ice-cream -- deeeelicious!

The Red Roses Cologne is made using seven varieties of roses and the result, as you might expect, smells something akin to freshly cut roses. What I love about Jo Malone is their fragrances are meant to be layered so you can combine the cologne with the accompanying accords to create something wholly unique (this will have to do until I can afford my own $12,000 bespoke fragrance from Francis Kurkdjian...one day!). In addition to the 30ml cologne the set comes with 9ml bottles of Moroccan Mint Leaf (herbaceous mint and sweet basil, blended with water jasmine and violet), Ice Rose (scent of flowers in the morning dew), Honeycomb (sweet honey, precious woods and resins).

The best part? All comes packaged in one of Jo Malone's beautiful signature boxes, making it great both for yourself or as a gift.

I'm a sucker for a great collaborative project, so, having long been a fan of Manhattan's Neue Galerie dedicated to early twentieth-century German and Austrian art and design, I was over the moon when I got word that Estée Lauder had created two limited-edition Bauhaus-inspired products centered around the work of artist Otto Dix--a crimson lipstick called Berlin Red and a complementary compact--whose exhibit will debut at the museum in March. As a refresher, the Neue Galerie was co-founded by Ronald S. Lauder (of the namesake beauty giant), so it was just a matter of time before his two passions would meld. Some of Dix's most noted works, including Portrait of the Dancer Anita Berber (1925) and reclining Woman on Leopard Skin (1927) center around female figures with bold red lips, so the choice of the crimson pigment (housed in a bullet-shaped case) was au natural. The lipstick and compact will be sold exclusively in the museum's design shop. If these beauty products aren't enough to get you uptown, hopefully Dix's exhibit--the first-ever one-man show on American soil devoted to the German artist--will.

Lipstick ($30) and compact ($55) available at Neue Galerie, 212-628-6200

As one of the beauty industry's most ardent supports of fashion talent--both young and established--it was only a matter of time before M.A.C would create a collection of essential products found in every makeup artist's kit used to create all the key beauty trends during fashion week. This February marks the second consecutive season M.A.C has collaborated with Milk Studios in NYC to host a hotbed of talent during New York Fashion Week, so consider M.A.C & Milk a fashionably late--albeit glorious--way to finally celebrate that collaborative spirit! "Radiant skin, smokey eyes and beige lips seem to be a part of the beauty trends every season. The M.A.C & Milk Collection are the iconic products that create these trends. No makeup artist can live without these products during fashion week," says Gordon Espinet, vice president of global makeup artistry for M.A.C Cosmetics. Every facet of one's daily beauty regimen, from skincare and eyes to mascara, face and lips, is included in the assortment. Fast Response eye cream? Check. Smolder Kohl pencil? Check. Zoom Lash mascara? Check. Fleshpot lipstick? Check. Even the essential beauty brush! What I love about the collection is that everything is neutral, well-balanced and suited for all shades of skin; there's no brooding blood red or neon yellow to throw you off kilter. Think of it as your quintessential basic must-haves to creating any look. You don't have to be at fashion week to look like you have: the M.A.C & Milk Collection is available for a limited time from February 2 to 22.
The collection ranges in price from $14.50 to $42, available at M.A.C stores and at <a href="http://www.maccosmetics.com/"target="new">www.maccosmetics.com

So cheesy, but I kind of love Vday and it doesn't matter to me whether or not I'm in a relationship (usually my Vdays are actually better when I'm single, because somehow boys have always seemed to disappoint me on big occasions, so better spend the day with friends:-)). A Vday-related survey found that bad breath is the number one reason why women over 25 turn down a date. Luckily I don't encounter too many men with bad breath, but going by what my dentist told me a few weeks ago most people's gums (including my own!) are in dire need of some mouthwash to tackle bacteria and keep them healthy. To that end, I thought I'd highlight two brands that have come-out with new products to treat both bad breath and gum health! First up, the obvious -- Listerine. Unlike the run-of-the-mill mouthwash you're likely thinking of however, they've recently added Total Care washes. Total Care not only kills bad breath, fights plaque, bacteria, strengthens teeth, and restores enamel, but it also prevents cavities something mouthwashes typically don't do. The one drawback to Listerine is that it's very strong flavor-wise, especially for someone like me who is sensitive to mint...I still use Bubble Gum Barbie toothpaste!). For those that share my problem, Kiss My Face (they make super-affordable, natural products), has just come-out with Breath Blast Mouthrinse which helps whiten teeth, restore enamel, kill germs, fights plaque, and freshen your breath all the while being 100% natural and boasting great (and lighter), flavors! The Vanilla Mint is my personal fave:-)

2010 is shaping up to be the year of the lip, so what better than Dolce & Gabbana's newest lipstick collection to glam up your next close encounter? "The Roses" line, out this month, marks the first anniversary of the Italian fashion house's makeup line and is a Pat McGrath-concocted, straight-from-the-runway, color collection that is both timeless and on trend. What I like about these lipsticks (pictured above, from left to right: Shine On, Baby Darling, Magnifica, Scarlett & Fascination) is that the shades appeal to every woman. From apricot-peach to intense mauve red, they're feminine yet bold and pay tribute to Dolce & Gabbana's love of flowers--in particular the rose. "To me, lips are a woman's most evocative feature; they are the focus of her femininity," says Domenico Dolce. Each lipstick boasts a velvety smooth fragrance redolent of the wild rose gardens of Sicily, innate to the designers' deepest roots. Ladies, time to pucker up this Valentine's Day.

They tackle frizz like no other and have developed the most refreshingly scented formulations. Now the brand has launched a new product, Full Thickening Cream ($24), to their lineup of offerings. The cream is meant for those with thin, life-less, limp hair who are looking for a thicker mane. It's touted as an alternative to sprays that last only a few hours because it's made with a new polymer (called Poly Beta Amino Ester-1), that's both strong and elastic, but also durable and non-sticky. I haven't used this product myself as I usually am trying to flatten my hair not thicken it, but after the jump see expert tips on how to use this product from Living Proof co-founders, Ward Stegerhoek and Mitch DeRosa!
Layers
The most volume will be achieved if you have some layers in your hair, whatever the length is. Make sure to ask your stylist to give you some layers if volume is your top hair concern.
Don't Overly Condition the Hair
You certainly want to have your hair well hydrated, but be careful not to excessively moisturize with heavy masks as this can tent to weigh the hair down, especially if your conditioners have lots of oils and silicones. This weight may counteract the benefits of a volumizer or thickener, like Full.
Style with Heat

The most volume will come from starting with clean hair and blowing it dry following the instructions above. Air drying will give you texture and definition, but usually not as much volume as heat styling.
Remember That Different Products Do Different Things

Full is a thickening product; it is not a root lifter and it will not give you hold. Cocktail Full with your favorite root lift product or holding product if that is the look you want. And experiment - have fun with your hair until you find your favorite style.
Coloring helps
For those of you who color or highlight your hair, this will give it added texture and will help give the appearance of more volume.

Eye creams and serums somehow magically all end up in my bathroom vanity, but the latest from Kiehl's is novel. First off, while the roll-on concept packaging is not new (use deodorant lately?), in eye cream territory, it is--at least for me. It took a little getting used to when it came to removing the top cap only to have to remove a second cap, but the no-muss, no-fuss roll, dab-and-go approach is quite efficient and travel-friendly. I'd definitely recommend it for frequent fliers. I suffer from tired, puffy eyes that dry out easily--blame it on late nights watching tennis and early morning meetings--so this product, as part of Kiehl's' ever-popular "Facial Fuel" line geared towards men, managed to hydrate the under-eye areas while providing a cooling sensation (there's honey in the moisturizer!). It's also lightweight and non-greasy, which my combination skin certainly appreciates. Arctic root and hibiscus tea are two of its main components, although I'm sure the caffeine component makes this the facial equivalent of a 3PM cup of coffee.

$18.50 at <a href="http://www.kiehls.com/_us/_en/face/whatsnew/facial-fuel-eye-de-puffer.htm"target="new">kiehls.com and Kiehl's counters nationwide

I had to cut all my nails down to the nubs to avoid further injury. Aside from the damaging effects, it looks terrible - like concrete. It's just nails on a chalk board every time I look at it. And it does not go on smoothly so there are ridges and bumps (done by a nail professional who normally does a great job!!). It also started chipping after one day!! It says not to use "base coat, top coat, drying products, or hand lotion when wearing Matte". No lotion? How is that possible? I know this trend didn't take off, thus, not exactly a "trend" but in case you're curious and wanted to experiment - consider yourself forewarned!!! At OPI.

Are you one of those people who make New Year resolutions to hit the gym regularly but somehow can't stick to it? If so, you need to head to Equinox to read <a href="http://mybodymybiography.com/"target="new">"My Body, My Biography"-- a new campaign that tells the compelling, often emotionally-charged, stories of people who have triumphed over adversity thanks to the physical and mental health that working out at Equinox has afforded them.

Equinox decided to develop this concept by building an entire advertising campaign around their members' stories of personal triumph, as well as an interactive microsite called <a href="http://www.mybodymybiography.com/"target="new">MyBodyMyBiography.com. The site includes compelling profiles, pictures, and videos of select members as well as user generated content where anyone can share their own story. Visitors can expect to get to know inspiring Equinox members, such as an injured Olympic athlete, a struggling single mother of five and a plane-crash survivor. Seriously, if this does not inspire you I have no further words of widsom for you.

You can also find behind the scenes footage and videos at <a href="http://www.youtube.com/Equinox"target="new">Youtube.com/Equinox as well as follow Equinox and share your story on <a href="http://www.facebook.com/Equinox"target="new">Facebook.com/Equinox and <a href="http://twitter.com/Equinox"target="new">Twitter.com/Equinox

My one peeve with the gloss is that I wish it had a brush applicator instead of a sponge one (why is it that so few makeup brands use brushes!?). Sponges always leave my lips a bit sticky, but on the plus side the gloss is long-lasting and the packaging is a serious bonus for me! Simple and sleek, the gloss has a black top with the Rock&Republic logo boldly displayed in thick silver letters on the cap. My fave color is "Sexy Beast" which is a lot lighter than you'd think looking at it. My lips are fairly dark and this color gave them a nice, quick boost of shine, but again you could layer on for more color. Now if only getting my hands on the Rock&Republic 'Stiletto' shoe in my size (come on -- how fun are these!? Dying that they're sold out!), would be as easy as applying this gloss!!
It was 1983 and I was 13 years old. My BFF was a honey blonde with peaches and cream complexion and she decided to make me over. After applying coral (orange) blush and lipsticks on me she proudly showed me a mirror. The colors that looked so pretty on her were clownish and chalky on me-- it made my Asian skin look sallow and yes, really yellow. I have not touched anything in that family of colors since then... until the Pretty Powerful Ad campaign photo shoot last September. When Bobbi decided to use her creamy concealer in Light Peach (I usually use Medium Beige) on me and continued with coral colored blushes, shadows and lipstick I went along with it (you do not question Bobbi when she's applying make up on you-- you just keep your mouth shut and try not to squeal from excitement). Luckily, the result was soft and flattering, nothing like the Cover Girl versions from 1983! The shimmering peachy coral colors Bobbi used on me turned out to be the Cabana Corals line from her Spring collection. I received samples of the collection this week and have been playing with them daily. My favorite in the collection is the new Nectar Shimmer Brick, it gives a very soft and subtle coral glow-- which is surprisingly more natural than pink! I also blend it on my forehead and around the outer edge of my entire face-- try it, it's like having a camera man light you up. Jump to see the complete collection.

(Do you want to win a free trip to New York and take an exclusive private class with Bobbi Brown? I will have details for you in the next entry!)

Bobbi's purse-friendly Pot Rouge is now available in a new sunny shade of coral. Creamy and easy to blend, pat on lips and cheeks for a beachy pop of color. I use the Pot Rouge when I go to the gym on both cheeks and lips. It's super sheer and natural and does not look like I have any make up on. I'm obsessed with Pot Rouge- when I use it, people think I'm 12 and I get carded everywhere (okay, maybe 18 but still, far cry from my real age of 40)! $22.00

Made with a unique combination of high-shine emollients and light-reflective pearls, this formula offers medium coverage with multi-dimensional shimmer. In three new shades: Coral Reef, Coral Glaze, and Calypso Glaze. $22.00

I panicked last Fall on my way to Asia because I was out of one of my shimmer glosses (luckily there are Bobbi counters all over the world!) Infused with subtle sparkle, Shimmer Lip Gloss is perfect worn on its own or over your favorite lipstick. Aloe extract soothes, Vitamins C and E offer anti-oxidant protection, and Jojoba and Avocado Oils keep lips soft and moisturized and these glosses never get . Available in three new colors: Sunset Beach, Golden Nectar, and Coral Sand.

feel really special that I got to try this 4 months ago :) Run to the nearest Bobbi counter and test it for yourself!
