Sephora + Pantone Universe Limited Edition Collection
By Beauty Snob Sharon
April 9, 2012

Pantone, the color forecasting and matching firm, has teamed-up with Sephora for a limited edition collection inspired by what Pantone has deemed the color of 2012, Tangerine Tango (“a vibrant orange reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset”). Now orange isn’t my shade when it comes to my face, but the collection extents far beyond just your run-of-the-mill shadow and includes: a lipstick ($18), a gloss set ($20), an eye shadow quad ($28), an eyeliner set ($22), blush ($16), a blush duo ($26), a nail color set ($24), a brush set ($68), a woven makeup bag ($28), an eyelash curler ($18), a faux lash set ($28), and a Collector’s Edition kit that includes eyeliner, a shadow quad, lipstick, lip gloss, the blush, and the blush duo ($68), all of which you can check-out here along with some picks inspired by the color of the year.

The lashes are a bit Halloween-esque, but I’m digging the nail polish set and it was great seeing this collection in person (Sephora and Pantone built a pop-up shop in the Meatpacking District in anticipation for the launch), because it’s fascinating to see how many variations you can get from orange! While my must-have from the collection is the nail polish set, if you’re in the market for new brushes, the Pantone set is a pretty stellar bargain at $68 ($144 value). No word yet on when the next collection will launch, but word is if this one goes well there will be another collection. Here’s to hoping the color of 2013 is some form of brown or gray – would love to see what Pantone and Sephora could do with those shades.

What do you think about this year’s color of the year? What would you like to see as the 2013 color of the year?

I like the lip colors and the nail colors a lot! I’m not brave enough for the orange eyeliner though. I’d like to see a brown shade as the 2013 color as well.

I went into Sephora and wondered what was up with all the clown makeup on the very helpful sales people. They looked awful! It wasn’t until I was walking out that it all clicked and I realized they were wearing the Pantone colors in a variety of ways, all of which were extremely unflattering.
