My favorite look of London Fashion Week was as modern as it is vintage. For Fall 2012, Antonio Berardi melded vampy thirties glamour with early-nineties minimalism and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’s fierceness. I’m loving ultra-short pageboy bob – part Louis Brooks, part Linda Evangelista, circa 1991 – especially with a light, fresh face.
Best of all, this is a transformative look you can actually recreate without hacking off your hair, a la Rooney Mara. Actually, it’s achievable for a night with a wig. Just take a straight-haired wig to your hairdresser and have it cut in this style (you may need to dye it as well) – sharp, sleek, and highlight-free. Then pull your own hair back in tight, low ponytail and voila, instant chic-ness!
To complete the look, Berardi’s makeup is a no-brainer. Here’s what you’ll need:
1) A pale and impeccable face is key for keeping the level of sophistication up. Use Boscia’s B.B. Cream ($38) for perfect skin that’s smooth, soft, and even.
2) Define and lightly smoke-ify the eyes with a blend-able pencil. Shiseido’s Smoothing eyeliner ($20) won’t smudge and comes in your choice of true black or soft black.
3) Highlight the inner corners of the eyes with this eyeshadow duo by Too Faced ($17). Two shades of shimmer give you options. Apply with a round-tipped brush for maximum control.
4) Keep the lips shiny and naturally light with a clear lip gloss. Bobbi Brown’s Crystal gloss ($17) is high on soft shine and free of stickiness.
