I sampled the Lip Glosses ($23) from Bobbi Brown new Neon & Nudes collection last month and was surprised at how wearable they are. I have to admit I was put off by the rich, bright purple and orange hues at first (these are my lips we are talking about!). With names like Citrus, Cosmic Pink, and Ultra Violet, you’re likely to envision real neon, but Bobbi wouldn’t do anything crazy. Once they’re on, the sheer glosses are less bright, with just a hint of color. (Bobbi recommends wearing one bright neon shade on an otherwise nude face.) Should you want bright and bold lips, add a layer of Lip Color ($23) before the sheer gloss in either Atomic Orange or Neon Pink, and you’ll get color that doesn’t quit.
I’m more adventurous with eye shadows. I love the pop of color against my brown eyes. The Ultra-Violet Shimmer Wash and Bluebell Eye Shadow ($21) provide more than a pop. Vibrant only begins to describe them. If you go this course, make sure to keep your lips nude. The Uber Beige Lip Color is the perfect neutral for this look. For a more subdued eye shadow, the Ultra Nude Eye Palette ($45) offers six shades for a toned down eye – and then your lips are free to pop. A soft wash of Nude Peach or Nude Pink Blush ($24) and you’re good to glow.
And since I am obsessed with liquid liners, I am ecstatic Bobbi has finally made one. Her Ink Liner ($24) in Really Black is just what a nude and neon face needs to totally seal the package! I will need to go to Neiman Marcus ASAP to buy one to test out.
Just remember the major rule of thumb here – don’t go all neon, or all nude! Follow Bobbi’s advice and you won’t end up looking either clownish or anemic!
