What to Eat in India?? The Raw Food Solution
By Beauty Snob Sharon
December 13, 2010

What to wear? No…What to EAT! That’s my big concern for a trip I’m taking at the end of next week to India! My boyfriend and I are going to a 5-day wedding in Bombay and then traveling around for a bit and the last thing I want to be is holed up in bathroom sick with my boyfriend in the other room! The solution? As a friend of mine simply stated – “BARS” – but I won’t be packin’ run-of-the-mill high in sugar, high in calorie Power Bars. I’ve discovered two of the most AMAZING Raw Food brands – Blue Mountain Organics and Amazing Grass. Their bars, snacks, and sweets are not only guilt-free, they’re actually so delicious you’ll want to eat them whether or not you’re traveling to India (I swear! If you try them and say you don’t like them, I actually might not believe you they’re that tasty).

You know how fat-free brownies are usually dry, flaky, and not at all satisfying when it comes to quenching a serious chocolate craving? Well Blue Mountain Organic’s Raw Bakery line is the exact opposite. All of their raw, sprouted superfoods are handmade in small batches and include a number of raw cacao chocolate treats that taste so decadently fantastic that I thought I would have to hit the gym twice as hard after eating – I’m not even going to say how many of their chocolate macaroons and cookies – but I didn’t. Everything in the line is  incredibly high in nutrients (including tons of antioxidants…raw cacao has more antioxidants than red wine), minerals like magnesium, iron, and sulfur (essential for strong nails, hair, and radiant skin), and made using nuts and seeds that have been soaked, sprouted, and dehydrated to remove digestive inhibitors making them not only delicious, but super easy to digest – and I mean SUPER easy to digest (like…in one end…out the other…gross, but awesome and true:-)!). Jump for more!

I highly recommend any one of their macaroons, any one of their brownies, their chocolate chip cookies, their Coco Joy bar, their ice cream which you can’t even compare to any of the soy-based, rice-based, or other ones you’ll find at a Health Food store (wish I could bring it with me), and for something a bit more savory they’ve even got Chocolate Kale Chips.

The other line I like is Amazing Grass. Their raw energy bars are similarly easy to digest, while being high in nutritents (made with fruits, veggies, nuts, and seeds). Don’t be

scared by the color (even their chocolate bar is green on the inside!).

They taste great, curb hunger, and boost energy/mood. Don’t expect them

to taste as dessert-like as bars you might be used to, but for a hearty

snack on the-go these are awesome.

You know how raw foodies get so excited when they talk about the lifestyle? I finally understand why. You can eat as much as you want, indulge your sweet tooth, and do it all minus the “food guilt.” Hopefully with a bunch of these in my luggage I’ll be prepared for whatever awaits me in India!

Why bother to go to India when you’re obviously condescending and too good to eat a thing there? I suppose you’re staying in a hovel and not a hotel?

Well unfortunately I may not even make it to India as I’m stuck in the aftermath of the NYC blizzard eating my weight in the chocolate and nutrition bars I bought for the trip! Meanwhile my flight has yet to be rescheduled…I certainly did not mean anything condescending by this! It’s no secret that many people get sick from the food in India and I happen to have a weak stomach, a diet that’s heavy on fruits and veggies (which are among the more “dangerous things” to eat there as they’re not cooked), and I hate spicy and saucy foods…better safe than sorry, but if I do make it to India I hope to most definitely taste a lot of the food.
