How Often Do You.... Wash or Replace Make Up Sponges?

I was zapping my favorite make up sponges from Laura Mercier ($15 for pack of 4) in the microwave the other day and thought it'd be fun to find out how often you guys clean or replace your sponges. I'll go first. I change my sponges every two weeks but wash it with anti bacterial soap every other day. When it's still soaking wet, I put it in the microwave in a bowl for a minute to zap any left over bacteria. This has really worked for me and of course I can not be absolutely sure that it's bacteria free but at least it feels clean on the skin and I rarely break out. What about you? How often do you clean or replace your make up sponges?

  • I place mine in the washing machine, never thought of the microwave technique!

  • I use brushes, which I shampoo and condition before leaving to dry naturally, or my fingers, which in these Swu-ey times, I of course wash every other minute. I used to use sponges but found that however careful I was, quite a lot of the product ends up in the sponge, so I prefer a foundation brush. There's supposed to be some sort of odd egg-shaped sponge than Oprah recommended because it made blending a dream, but what its special stand and everything it just looked like too much faff.

How are you getting on with the Youth Complex? I almost pressed this weekend but I decided to hold out and see what you thought after your 30-day review.

    • I will have it up this week. The youth complex is AMAZING

I only use iS products now and test new products on my neck and chest. the face needs to be protected ;)

      • Well, I bought Skinceuticals on your recommendation and they are the bomb, so I may have to get the youth complex too. Generally, how do the IS Serums compare with the Skinceuticals ones?

It's pathetic really; I am debating whether to make a business trip to Spain just so I can buy Natura Bissé at half-price. Isn't that ridiculous?

  • call me a clean freak, but i do not re-use sponges.... i just buy a big pack of the 'economical" sponges from SaSa. I only use it to blend around my nose so I do not need expensive sponges.. my brushes however i scrub religiously with organic soap-free cleanser...

  • I also use brushes mostly, but I sometimes reach for the sponges when I want extra coverage in certain places. Since I don't use it often I wash it out every time I use it to ensure that it can stay clean. I like the idea of zapping them in the microwave, I usually let them air dry but that feels to bacteria-prone. Thanks for the tip!

  • I actually use YSL's "Perfect Touch Radiant Brush" foundation, which has a brush built in (like touche eclat but just bigger and for your face/problem spots) and clean that with water and a bit of brush cleaner. Plus, its the makeup and brush in one. Easy for travel!

It is WONDERFUL--ever since I started using it, it literally looks like I've been airbrushed--in case anyone is looking to try something new! And it has SPF too.

  • ughhh embarsing ialways use the same one and my face neva breaks out

    lucky i guess
