I've always stayed away from lash base products because most were goopy and made my lashes clumpy. Kanebo Sensai just came out with the MASCARA 38°C EYELASH BASE ($28.00), however, that has changed my mind about lash base products! This base coat deposits a fine, white layer of wax that coats, protects and lengthens (and curls!) each lash with a fluid, non-clumping formula and allows mascara to show its true, bold color when applied above the base. Swertia Japonica Extract gently conditions individual hair shafts to create lashes that are dramatically thicker and really dramatic! It doesn't grow lashes so you'll have to get a prescription for Latisse (I've been using it for a month now and WOW, wait for my review next month!)
