Blast your fat away! The New Anti-Lipo
By Beauty Snob Tina
February 26, 2009

absjenaniston1.jpgNon-invasive and high tech plastic surgery is the hottest topic of late; these treatments are purportedly safe– or are they?  I am a bit freaked out by the newest in the battle against bulge called Ultra Shape– an ultra sound treatment that will melt fat permanently and painlessly invented by Tel Aviv plastic surgeon Ami Glicksman. According to Glicksman, the ultrasound shakes the fat cells to the point that they break down and are metabolized by the liver (What? is that safe for the liver? so you’re devouring your own fat? is this what the obsession for perfection has come to? Self-cannibalism?)

This procedure is pending FDA approval and will cost roughly $2,500 per session. Ultra Shape will only work in small pockets of fat (don’t expect it to remove 50 pounds of fat– that will require actual exercise)– best for belly bulges, saddlebags and knees. I don’t know about this, sounds like a lot of money for very little in return and who knows what the risks are for your liver!?

What about you– would you risk your health to be thin?

Suspiciously similar to claims that you could vibrate fat away in the 1950s. http://jeffthejock.wordpress.com/2007/10/30/can-you-vibrate-fat-off/

The procedure sounds like it makes sense, but I’m not sure how permanent it would be, since the fat still has to go somewhere and since you’re not expending more energy, the liver will probably reprocess the fat and move it somewhere else.

And it shouldn’t harm your liver. The liver usually is the organ to metabolize fats to turn them into glucose, the form that we can actually use. Breaking down the fat cells would probably be equivalent to eating a really greasy meal.

    Except the meal is yourself?

It’s just so gross to me!

Here’s an idea, start eating healthy and exercise moderately every day. That might work. ;)

Haha. If that worked, then everyone would have wonderful Jennifer Aniston-esque abs and stomach. I’m just amused that some people are that desperate to have their fat “liquefied”. Actually this is almost like lipo except the fat doesn’t get collected by a syringe, it just stays in your body.

And it’s not as gross if you think the exact same process happens when you exercise, just on an even smaller scale. The fat breaks down -> liver to be processed to glucose -> sent to muscle cells/etc.

I had a lot of problems caused by my many diets.

The truth is that we can be thin and healthy with a little effort. most of the time we are busy or we are working, but we should think that the liver is the only part of our body that doesn’t recover. Pills also are damaging for it, not to mention about huge amounts of fats. What if our organism is different and the procedure doesn’t succeed? what are the chances to get our money back?

hmmmm sounds sketchy….I always secretly wished I could take the fat from my thighs and inject them to lift my boobs. I wouldn’t actually go through that though. Would rather spend the money on something more fun, and I like to work out anyway.

I do battle my cellulite though. The BEST EVER I found was an old Vichy gel formula in a Paris Pharmacie in 2000, 2001. IT GOT RID OF MY CELLULITE NO JOKE Well I know you can’t get ‘rid’ of it, but it made the skin all smooth again. I stocked up and have long ago depleted the stock. Unfortunately Vichy changed the formula. I have been trying out their newest one, which is OK but nothing like the old one.

I have really fallen for the Vichy face products though. It is the only stuff that has tamed my hormonal cystic stuff that I get when my hormones get out of whack. It also has smoothed out my skin like a baby. The best moisturizer I found for combination skin though they don’t offer on the Vichy USA site. I’ve only found it in Europe.

Skyn Iceland is another favorite of mine. Their Nordic Skin Peel pads are AMAZING.

    oops sorry for the tangent….
