As an actress, Jennifer was experiencing breakouts from the heavy makeup she had to wear, and all the skincare products she tried made her skin worse. Eventually she decided to create her own line. Pūr~lisse, which translates in French to “pure” and “smooth,” is a skincare line designed to preserve youth, protect beauty and prevent skin aging.

Jennifer combined Chinese beauty secrets from her grandmother and advanced French skin technology to create a line that features a patent-pending Lotus Lupine complex. The products blend Blue Lotus and White Tea with modern advanced delivery systems. It is created without the use of harmful parabens, petrochemicals, propylene-glycol, and synthetic color and fragrances. The line includes: pūr~delicate Gentle Soy Milk Cleanser & Makeup Remover; pūr~moist Hydra-Balance Moisturizer; pūr~protect Essential Daily Moisturizer SPF 30; pūr~youth preserve Age-Delaying Skin Serum; pūr~eye adore Quadra Benefit Eye Serum; pūr~bright Ultra Brightening Serum; pūr~lip comfort Daily Lip Nourisher; and blue lotus~organic white tea.

I met Jennifer 8 years ago when I was still a happening young girl hanging out in the LA nightlife scene. We lost touch years ago, but were reintroduced by a beauty snob reader, who wanted me to review the product line. I finally figured out it was Jen a few weeks later, and by then I was hooked on her line, specifically the pūr~protect, which I now use every single day, 7 days a week (and yes, she now sends it to me--that is the perk of being her old friend, but even if she did not, I would buy this by the box load. It is my favorite day cream. I mix it with foundation, and it's an instant tinted moisturizer with sunscreen!). Jen also sent me the complete system to review, and I have to say it exceeded my expectations. This is a must-try for anyone who wants pure skin care. We caught up with Jen recently and got a few beauty tips for our readers. Enjoy!

Beauty Snob: How do you balance being a television personality and your new career as a beauty mogul?
Jennifer Yen: I don’t!!! pur~lisse has been my full time job! I quit going to auditions in 2006, as balancing the two was impossible. Also, pur~lisse was too important for me to make it part time.

Beauty Snob: What are your favorite pur~lisse products?
Jennifer Yen: I have dry sensitive skin. My favorite pur~lisse products are: pur~delicate gentle soymilk cleanser and makeup remover, pur~youth preserve age delay serum, and pur~moist hydra balance moisturizer. These products leave my skin even, balanced and hydrated.

Beauty Snob: What is your beauty secret for staying gorgeous--something you have never divulged?
Jennifer Yen: I buy soybean oil from the local Farmer’s Market and use it for the tips of my hair, which tend to get dry. Soybean oil helps keep hair soft and flexible and minimizes hair loss.

Beauty Snob: What is your beauty routine?
Jennifer Yen:
AM:

  1. Wash face with pur~delicate
  2. pur~protect SPF 30 on face and neck
  3. pur~eye adore around eye area
  4. pur~lip comfort for lips

PM:

  1. Wash face with pur~delicate
  2. Pur~youth preserve on face and neck
  3. Pur~moist on face
  4. Pur~eye adore around eyes
  5. Pur~lip comfort for lips

Since I have extremely sensitive skin, I only exfoliate where I need it (around chin and nose) and use a recovery mask every 1.5 weeks.

gonglipic.jpgBeauty Snob: Who are your beauty icons?
Jennifer Yen: My grandmother, Jennifer Connelly, Audrey Hepburn and Gong Li.

Beauty Snob: What do you prefer: facials or massages?
Jennifer Yen: Definitely massages! Sitting in front of a computer all day and the stress really makes my neck and shoulders ache! I take care of my skin on a daily basis---cleanse, moisturize, exfoliate and use masks every 1.5 weeks--so massages are more beneficial to me!

Beauty Snob: What are your edible addictions?
Jennifer Yen: I am addicted to barbeque potato chips. They are so good, but so bad for you!

Beauty Snob: Do you have any hobbies?
Jennifer Yen: I love to read books about historical leaders and historical fiction.

Beauty Snob: Any must-read books for our readers?
Jennifer Yen: "Monkey King—A Journey to the West," retold by David Kherdian and originally written in the 16th century, is a historical epic.

"Last of the Amazons" by Steven Pressfield takes place in 1250 BC and is about a nation of female warriors, whom the Greeks called “Amazons.” Imagine a society where women were the rulers and warriors!

Beauty Snob: What is the soundtrack to your life (what's in your iPod or CD player)?
Jennifer Yen: U2, All that you can’t leave behind.

Beauty Snob: What are your guilty pleasures?
Jennifer Yen: When I am traveling on a long flight (usually NY to LA or LA to NY), I allow myself to read juicy, gossip magazines. I know, I shouldn’t, but it makes the flight go by so much faster!

Beauty Snob: Do you have any secret talents?
Jennifer Yen: I’m a really good cook!

Beauty Snob: What is your favorite vacation spot?
Jennifer Yen: Hawaii—easy to get to and beautiful! I want to go back!

Beauty Snob: When is the last time you laughed?
Jennifer Yen: Today!

Beauty Snob: What is your favorite childhood memory?
Jennifer Yen: Hanging out with my two brothers and fishing in Panama City Beach, FL.
