Even though I’m fair with blonde hair, I want super-thick, super-black eyelashes. No wallflower browns for me! Being a mascara junkie, I’m always on the hunt for the perfect formula. I don’t care where it comes from or if it’s a premium brand—it just has to do the job! I’d also prefer that I not have to use several different kinds to achieve the look I want. I started wearing Dior Diorshow Mascara Black 090 almost a year ago, and loved the volume it gave my lashes. But then I tried CoverGirl LashBlast Mascara, Very Black 800
, and I really like it as much as the Diorshow, if not better! The CoverGirl is even more black, in my opinion, and does provide thick, luscious lashes with only two coats. The only problem I have with it, is that it tends to clump a little more than the DiorShow, but this is easily fixed with a metal lash comb. And the price difference is significant! DiorShow costs $24 at Sephora, while Lash Blast is only $7.95 at Drugstore.com, and I’ve seen it even cheaper at drugstores and Target. And while, I don’t mind spending more for a great mascara, I’d just as soon spend the extra money on something else!
It’s funny that you posted these two mascaras together, because those are the exact two I am using right now. I usually use the Lash Blast on weekdays (since it is cheaper and I leave my makeup bag in my car a good amount of the time, I don’t mind if the weather messes the formula up!) and on weekends I use the Dior one, since it is a little bit more dramatic and good for going out:)

My problem with lash blast (and other drugstore formulas) is that too much product comes out on the wand. Maybe I don’t have enough lashes to absorb the extra product but I can’t go straight from overloaded wand to my lashes. Wipe off the extra product with kleenex = little bits of kleenex on the wand. Wipe it off using the lip of the tube = lose my religion that I even have to take that step. I WANT to love drugstore mascaras but I’ve walked that road of disappointment too many times.
Nothing works on my lashes like Japanese mascaras direct from Japan! Dior, Clinique, Lancome, MAC, Maybelline, L’oreal I’ve tried it all. Shiseido USA doesn’t even work for me. I have to buy Shiseido in Asia (Different sub-brands – Integrate – whom Angelina Jolie is the face of.) Maybe it’s because I’m Asian and my lashes don’t naturally curl up. Once I put on these mascaras, my lashes fall straight back down. No joke! Nothing works like Kiss Me, it’s my absoulte favourite!
I recently reviewed these two mascaras on my blog as well, and I was a diehard Diorshow fan for a few years, but it seems to get flakey on me. I don’t know if they changed the formula or what. I love the Lastblast and YSL’s mascara as well.
i find that diorshow isn’t as black as i want it to be, and even the sales rep for dior told me her diorshow had started to flake on her. she recommended diorshow blackout, and i adore it. the only thing that would make me love it more is if it were waterproof. it has the darkest color, and i have no problems with clumping.
I really don’t like to spend lots of $$ on mascarra, lash blast is great!
I was at the Dior counter today (I spend a lot of time snooping around at beauty counters!) and I was told that Dior Show Black Out is very black but lacks the volume of regular Dior Show, she said it’s be best used as a top coat over Dior Show. So being the sucker I am, I bought both.
Used it tonight to a black tie event and just got home, no clumping nor flaking, am loving the combo but quite pricey so perhaps you can try it over the Lash Out? LOL

A few ideas:
1. Try wiping off the mascara tube lightly with a baby wipe or facial cleansing cloth or a microfiber towel.
2. If you like a mascara formula, you can always use another brush to apply it.
3. There is a new Rimmel Mascara out that is applied with a comb. It really works well and gets all the lashes without too much product. It’s called Rimmel Lash Maxxx.
I’m all for using whatever works the best for each individual, and mascara is such a personal preference thing anyway. Makeup artists rave about Great Lash, and I HATE it!

I read this tip and made a mental note to try Lash Blast the next time I needed mascara – I use Dior Show. The next time I went to CVS it was on sale – 2 for 1. Of course I had to buy it. The first time I used it, I was not convinced but I have been using it for about 2 weeks now and I am actually now a convert. It does not smudge as much and it’s easier to remove. And since I really can’t see much, if any, difference in coverage, for the price difference, I will be using Lash Blast from now on (ie. until the next great thing comes along).
