November 2007 Archives
I am a bath girl. Before giving birth I took luxuriously long baths daily, my tub was surrounded by candles, magazines and my favorite books. Flash to 2007, my toddler has taken over my bathtub or as he calls it "the swimming tub" which is now covered in plastic bath toys. When I discovered Fraiche, I thought the all natural hand made soaps and bath swizzles would make great stocking stuffers for my girlfriends. I didn't even contemplate trying them for myself at first because I have not had time for a bath in months! When I received my box however, the scent of honeysuckle and gardenia (my favorite!) tempted me and when I read all the ingredients were organic and molded by hand, I knew I had to take an hour off from my life to indulge. I put my son to bed a bit earlier than usual (he actually needed it as he did not nap, so don't feel sorry for him!) and told my husband I was not going out as planned. I needed a break from our busy social calendar and what better way than a nice bath?!?!?
I grabbed a stack of magazines so I could catch up on reading but the minute I sat in the Honeysuckle infused bath I was lost. You know that super corny Calgon commercial from the '80s when that stressed out woman would beg to be taken away? Well, that's how I felt. I felt miles from blogging, potty training, black tie social functions and all the things I do on daily basis to keep my world spinning. I closed my eyes and did not open them until the bathwater got cold. When I got out, my skin was soft and silken from the organic oils (Goat’s Milk, Certified Organic Olive Oil, Certified Organic Coconut Oil, Unrefined Virgin Shea Butter). I have decided to keep all the bath swizzles and soaps for myself, sorry girls- this stash is mine, I'll order more for you when Christmas rolls around but don't blame me if I keep that as well :) Did I mention my bathroom was deliciously scented for the rest of the night? What could be more romantic than a room scented like the shores of Hawaii?
Fraiche is sold at Stanley Korshak and a host of Spas. Or do like I plan to and buy directly from the Fraiche website. Bath swizzles- $17.50 for pack of three. $12.50 for hand molded soaps.

Santa came early this year (I was a really good girl!) and dropped off the most fabulous Holiday Collection set I've ever seen from Awake cosmetics. Let's start with the packaging, a glittering ruby red and glass box filled with delicious goodies, all the tools you'll need for a bit of holiday glitz at a reduced price. This is a limited edition item my beauties so I would jump on it, like NOW! Here is a peek at what's inside:
1. Stardom All Directional Mascara in Ultra Black- Lengthening and volumizing, this has the tiny fibers I love to make your lashes mile long and ultra glossy.
2. Stardom Lip Gloss in Fairly Pink- Make your lips sparkle and shine with this light weight gloss. I love the extra oomph it gives over my other glosses.
3. Stardom Dimensional Eye colors in Love Light and Angel Wing- Dazzling multi-dimensional compacts with four color-striped eyeshadows in each. This is so much fun to play with! Every time I use it I can mix a completely different shade!
4. Stardom Nail Lacquer in Magnetic Violet- Purple is the new black in polish and this has jewel glitters for high drama and a night on the town!
5. Stardom Face Powder Compact in Champagne Glow- get the glow without the grease, I keep this in my bag at all times!

Game Rules here!
A reader shared her fabulous discovery on a recent trip to Dubai with me, Parfums M. Micallef. She said they were "All hand made perfumes in hand made bottles painted with 24 ct gold and/or embedded with Swarovski stones....And that's only the outside..... the fragrances even outsell Chanel and Dior. The scents last long on the skin and develop beautifully." She also said that the perfume is not available stateside, mostly because the owners are not eager to expand, yet.
Of course that got my attention immediately, I checked their website and am now dying to experience the scents! There are many to choose from, Le 4 Saisons, Les Exclusifs, Les Notes and Ananda. They also offer lavish crystal flacons which may be filled with all the fragrances from the various Micallef collections and, if required, decorated with special motifs, such as portraits, names, etc. You can also put other favorite perfumes in these unique 3 liter flacons. I love all of them! Would love to get my hands on one of each. Those of you who live in Cannes, Paris, London or Dubai, go check out their store! Go to Parfums M. Micallef.

Necessity is the mother of invention. How true that is and you don't really know how creative you can be until you are desperate because you've lost your entire make up case (yes, that's me). Luckily, I had some MAC products in my bathroom that I didn't use, specifically the Paint Pot. I had a really hard time with these because it is so thick and sticky and I am very light on eyeshadow use so they just sat beautifully in my bathroom beauty closet (I have a floor to ceiling cabinet with a shelving system that will hold half of a Sephora store. So you don't really have to feel sorry for my loss of make up case). Well, I lost my entire eyeliner system, which is the key piece to my make upping. I decided to grab an eyeliner brush and stick it in the black Paint Pot and if anything good has come from my loss it is the discovery of an amazing eyelining technique!! This stuff is thick and creamy, almost gel-like but goes on dry so it is the perfect eyeliner! My previous fool proof technique of wetting powder seems like such a hassle compared to this ready to go pot of heaven!! It goes on opaque and stays on beautifully and the consistency allows you to shape it however you like. I am so happy and proud of myself for figuring this out!! $16.50 at Mac Cosmetics.
