Shu Uemura Kimono Eyeshadows

indigoblue.jpgkimonoshadow.jpg

The Limited Edition trio of Shu Uemura eyeshadows were inspired by the art and elegance of kimonos. Creator Shu Uemura is a master at blending art with cosmetics and this is one of prettiest eyeshadow palettes this season. Kelly and I both adore Shu Uemura and used to spend hours at their store in Taiwan (I once bought 25 bottles of a foundation they were discontinuing - did I tell you this already? I have a habit of repeating myself) and she recently lost her entire make up bag with her collection of Shu Uemura sable brushes and make up! We were at the studio filming for the TV series "25 most stylish" and she left it in the make up room. I am trying to help her replace her beloved brushes (Some that we have had since college and they are still in pristine condition! At least mine are, no idea where hers are but I am certain there is one happy girl out there).

Anyway, I might surprise her with this treat, shhhhhhh, don't tell!

Available in Ai (vivid indigo blue) Sakura ((frosted pale pink) and Ebi (rich eggplant purple). $20 each at Shu Uemura boutiques worldwide.

If you haven't noticed, we are suckers for romance flicks! And of course one of the best is Sleepless in Seattle. (whatever happened to Meg Ryan anyway? I loved all her movies!) Our question of the day is: Where does Tom Hank's son arrange to meet Meg Ryan at the end of the movie?

Her Glossiness

I’m totally not a lipstick person. I’ll pick gloss any day of the week. In fact, I’m sort of a lip gloss addict. When I saw this new Benefit, Her Glossiness Set I snatched it up right away! Its three different double ended lip glosses in fun light shades that are perfect for fall! They’ve taken the light pinks and purples of the summer and made them darker and richer and totally fall-appropriate! They’ve got a hint of shimmer in them but they’re still subtle. I’m always wary about double ended lip glosses because the one’s I’ve experimented with have almost always leaked. I’m being very careful with them and no leaks so far! $26 at Sephora.com Benefit Cosmetics Her Glossiness Set

TOMS: Shoes for Tomorrow

Pink and Navy Toms: $38 each

We all love a 2-for-1 deal especially when it's for a good cause. At TOMS "Shoes for Tomorrow" this is their motto. Every time you buy a pair of shoes the company donates a pair on your behalf to a child without shoes. Creator Blake Mycoskie (if he looks familiar, he was a contestant on The Amazing Race: Season Two) was inspired on a trip to Argentina by the traditional, rope-soled Argentine “alpargata”. He was struck by the poverty and health issues of the country, and set out to reinvent the alpargata for the U.S. market and provide for those without shoes. To achieve this goal, Blake made a commitment to match every pair of TOMS purchased with a donation of a pair to a child in need. "I was overwhelmed by the spirit of the South American people, especially those who had so little,” Mycoskie says. “And I was instantly struck with the desire – the responsibility – to do more.”

(Note from Beauty Snob Tina: I just purchased 3 pairs for myself and ordered 2 pairs for my son, these are the perfect shoes to run around in all year long! Plus every time you pull them on, you can smile at the thought of a child somewhere in the world who also has a pair of shoes because of you :) GO SHOP!)

Eyeliner 101: Bobbi Brown * Chanel * Paula Dorf = Perfection

I am a huge fan of eyeliner and have perfected the most natural looking line with Bobbi Brown Ultra Fine Eyeliner Brush. I have been using this brush for the last 4 years, it creates a very thin and natural line for day but you can hold it at an angle to make the line thicker for evening. It's really easy to grip the brush and control the line because the brush hairs are finely pointed and tightly packed for precise application. There is nothing worse than running around in broad daylight looking like Amy Winehouse is there? I love her music but really would like to do her make up for her :) You must try this, it will be the best $20 you ever spend! Go to one of the dozens of Bobbi Brown counters and ask to test it first. You can transform any eyeshadow into liquid liner with Paula Dorf's Eyeshadow Transformer but I prefer Chanel's Limited Edition Eyeliner trio; it has a matte black, a shimmering black and a dark brown to blend or use separately. I used to have dripping liner by the end of a fun night but with this trio of products, my eyeliner never smears no matter how late my husband and I stay out!

Kinerase Ultimate Day and Night Moisturizers

kinerase_daycream.jpgkinerase_night.jpg

There are endless products out there created by dermatologists. And then there is Kinerase. It was developed by a research-based pharmaceutical company and in its inception was used by dermatologists to treat patients who had undergone treatment. Its key ingredient is kinetin, a growth hormone found in a little blue flower, the anemone flower. Kinetin is gentle yet is effective in fighting signs of aging and sun damage. Celebrities are all over this line and I just had to see what the hype was all about. I used the Ultimate Day Moisturizer as well as the Ultimate Night Moisturizer. Both of these are intense and heavy creams. I love the Night Moisturizer because it leaves my skin super moist and hydrated even in the morning. I almost don't need to moisturize again because I am so dewy but of course I wash my face in the morning so it all comes off but it is heavy enough to last all night and then some. It goes on very smoothly, my skin just sucks it right up. It has no perfumes which is so important to me, sure there are some creams that smell good to me but I don't see the need to add fragrance to them. I am happy to report that I don't have wrinkles so I don't know how well it fights wrinkles but we all know hydration is the key to prevention and this definitely does that very well. I thought the Day Moisturizer was a bit heavy for the day, maybe because it's summer and I get very shiny as it is so this was way overkill for my skin. If I still lived on the east coast, this would be exactly what I needed for the harsh winters. So you girls out in the northeast, this is your salvation! The only thing I didn't like about the Day Moisturizer is that it doesn't come with SPF. For a line that is all about sun damage (they are even endorsed by The Skin Cancer Foundation), I would think that all their day creams come with at least SPF 15. My mornings are hectic and I just don't need an extra step in my regiment so all my day moisturizers have to come with sunscreen. But overall, I really like this line. It is simple and straight forward and gets the job done. The Ultimate Day Moisturizer and Ultimate Night Moisturizer 2.8 oz are $125 each and available exclusively at Sephora.

UPDATE: Congrats to Lisa, Alex was a welder by day, dancer by night!

Oh my gosh, remember the cut up sweatshirt look from the '80s inspired by the movie Flash Dance? I was in Junior high and did many dance routines to the theme song! Our question of the day is: What was the daytime occupation of Alex, the aspiring dancer?
