Prescriptives Custom Blend Heaven

foundation_main.jpgpowder_main.jpg

I finally went and got custom blended at Prescriptives and it was one of those things where you ask yourself, "Why didn't I do this sooner?" But more importantly, I asked "How did I ever look right without it?" I got the foundation, powder and concealer blended and many more goodies but let's focus on the custom blend products because they are nothing short of life altering. I am not a big foundation wearer, mainly because I don't always want the "made up" look for everyday. Well, that is exactly what the color_print.pngcustom blended foundation is not, it is meant to look perfectly naturally, like you don't have make up on. They start out by doing what they call a Color Print which determines your undertone. The right base color for you become extremely clear because one will blend in while others appear on all spectrum of the rainbow. So how natural is natural you ask? The way Roger (my amazing make up scientist who blended everything with such precision and skill that I was convinced he has a doctorate degree in this) tested the color on me was to use a Q-Tip and removed strips off my face. Now if you are using a foundation that is not exactly the same tone, color and shade as your skin you will look like a zebra. After he did this, I still looked like the porcelain goddess he made me. Totally amazing! Now you might be asking yourself, what's the point of using foundation if your skin looks exactly like how it looks without it? Well, it simply makes your complexion better by evening out your entire face and covers up whatever blemishes you need to hide (like my freckles). An additional bonus of the custom blend is that you can add treatments your skin needs so that using it actually improves your skin. I added "candlelight" which reflects light particles to make me glow as well as deflect the appearance of flaws and I also got the brightener to help break up the excess melanin in my skin to diminish my freckles. The powder is even more miraculous if you can believe it. Getting powder to match your skin color exactly is truly a science and is much harder to do than foundation. So many crazy colors went into mine to get it to be just right (I admit, I was skeptical when he added turquoise) and the result was pure genius! The greatest part of the powder is that I was able to get it loose and pressed. I like using loose powder at home but on the go in my bag, I have to carry pressed powder. Roger was mortified when I told him that my loose and pressed powder was not always the same. Well, never again, I have the exact same thing in 2 forms. Smart, right? I was also able to add custom treatments to my powder - a moisturizer so that I don't look matte and cakey. I get really shiny during the day and my continuing use of powder throughout the day goes too far and I lose my natural dewiness. This fixes that and gives me the best of both worlds! The concealer is much like the foundation formulation except with a heavier consistency. I have never looked better and needless to say I am extremely happy these days. Foundation is $62, Loose Powder is $45 (comes with a travel size), Pressed Powder is $15 and concealer is $32. Find a Prescriptives counter near you to make an appointment.

Shiseido Fall 2007 Collection: Go Bold

Fall into glamour with Shiseido's new Fall collection in bold lips and bold eyes. With richly hued eyeshadow quads to highlight, shape or line, you'll achieve the all important smoky eyes with either "Lunar Phases" or "Desert Winds". I have the "Lunar Phases" on my eyes right now, the black shadow is best as liner with a wet brush and the pale lemon and baby pink shades are highlighters that can take years off your eyes. The result is mod fabulous! My first Shiseido was the black eyeshadow/liner trio when I was in college. My girlfriends would beg to use it but never could achieve the same precise line (I neglected to tell them to wet the sponge applicator or brush, I used to think beauty secrets should be just that but that is obviously not the case now :)Both at Sephora.

I also adore the latest glosses, they give just a glimmer of shimmer to set off your sexy eyes. From top- Cinnamon Shimmer, Peach Melba, and Rose Toffee. $20 at Sephora

Chanel does it all!

Post by Beauty Snob Michelle

I needed a new face wash this weekend. “Try Chanel” my roommate suggested. “Ha!” I scoffed for no real reason at all. I figured she wasn’t serious. I’ve used Chanel’s makeup a million times but never even threw a second glance at their skincare line. “No really,” she insisted, “I used to use it all the time. I’m actually not sure why I ever stopped.” So I took her advice and got Chanel’s Precision face wash. I’m really, really liking it so far. It’s one of the only face washes I’ve tried that I feel is actually cleansing my skin rather then just coating it with soap. It only takes a small amount of this to work up a lather and clean your whole face and neck. It’s got a light, floral, soapy scent that washes off with the foam leaving your skin clean in every way possible. The best thing about it is that the saleslady told me that if I wasn’t happy with it I could bring it back for a refund! (Which I’m totally not going to do.) I have normal skin and this one works for me but no matter what skin type you have I encourage you to check out Chanel’s skin care line! Chanel Precision - $38 at stores.
