Prescriptives make up was a favorite when I was in college but through the years had faded to the back of my mind as a fond memory. I still remember the gray compacts I used to carry around with me in the early '90s, it was so modern and chic, the young and cool sibling to Estee Lauder line of products. But I lost track of my favorite items from Prescriptives as new brands lured me away with fancy colors and gimmicky shades. Last year I returned to the Prescriptives counter after almost a decade away and had a lip gloss from another company recreated as it was discontinued, the make up artist did such an amazing job mixing the exact shade of my gloss that I started paying attention to Prescriptives again. I discovered many women obsessed with Prescriptives custom blend foundation and who swear it is the only way to look natural and dewy. Honestly, I didn't really believe any of them, I was a Chanel foundation addict and didn't think any brand could match the dewiness my Teint Innocence provided me. Well, I was proven wrong last week at the Prescriptives counter at Bergdorf Goodman's infamous beauty basement!
I spent over an hour getting customized and rediscovering Prescriptives, I wanted a natural looking foundation and asked Matthew (the make up specialist) to do whatever he thought would look best on my coloring. Still skeptical, I watched him and another color specialist whip up concoction after concoction, all the while testing this and that on my face. I felt like I was in some high tech science project and started enjoying myself when I realized how meticulous they were not only at matching my skin tone but the texture of my skin. Matthew asked many questions throughout this progress in order to give me exactly what I wanted. For example, do I want to look dewy? Hello, is the Pope Catholic? Of course I do! But without looking greasy, which he got immediately. He added some magic potion which made my skin glisten and glow and looked so sheer it was as if I was illuminating light of my own! Incredible! I started getting excited (and greedy) and asked him to blend two lip glosses, bronzer and blush for me. The result was nothing short of total fabulousness. My skin looked flawless yet natural and the bronzer with blush made me look youthful, not made up. We went a little wild with the lip gloss and did a bronzy-pinky-gold shade I would never have chosen for myself but funny enough, it is now my favorite!
And did I mention I am glistening and glowing without looking sweaty or greasy? What used to take me multiple steps to achieve (primer, foundation mixed with lotion, glow products etc) has now been condensed to one single swipe of foundation! The best part is the little travel sizes he made of everything so I can keep it all in my make up bag or take on trips.
I also grabbed a foundation brush and a few products that I will be trying out and reporting back to you (amongst them the Fight Cream which I used to pile on during my weekly flights jetting around the globe). Until then, you must get Customized at Prescriptives! I've decided there is nothing more luxurious than custom made beauty products. (well, unless it is a custom made Hermes Birkin but I can't wear that on my lips now can I?) You also get to name your product and they'll keep it on file so you can replenish at your leisure. Now when your girlfriends ask where you got your lip gloss you can smile smugly and say "It was custom made for me". Prescriptives at Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue stores nationwide or you can custom make your own lip gloss shade online while lounging at home!
I am so into Prescriptives again that I have convinced the company to sponsor our October daily pop quiz giveaway! We'll be giving away over $1,500 of fabulous Prescriptives products throughout the month. It was a long process of dealing with their legal department, etc (things work so differently with a big company!) but we've got it all nailed down so stay tuned for the quizzes to launch on October 1st!

You know, I have been wanting to try the custom blend but was not sure of the quality, colorizing seems so '80s via Merle Norman to me! But after reading your review, will definitely give it a try!

Do they do the custom blending anywhere besides Neiman Marcus or Saks? It sounds like it would be a good treat, although my skin is usually not that hard to match. I want that dewy look though, so I may have to look into Prescriptives.
