Mac Matte2 and Mattene

| Leave Comment

Mattene_Ambient_L.jpgMattene_Beauty_L.jpg

Matte is the word for Fall, as in matte lipsticks and shadows. But don't expect the cakey '90s version, matte for the new millenium is a soft shimmering glow. I just got the Mac mattene lipsticks and shadows from the new collection and am wearing the lipstick as I type and it feels velvety and smooth. I am a lip gloss addict so I put a layer of sheer gloss over it and the result is gorgeous and subtle! As per usual, there are a dozen shades to choose from but here are my favorites:

Mattene Lipstick-
Flattering: a beautiful semi matte beige-pink shade that complements the season's smoky eye.
Classic Dame: A true red to dress up that LBD.

Lipsticks will be available after October 4th! At MACcosmetics.com

UPDATE: Congrats to widi for identifying this modern day style icon, Kate Moss!
septpop16.jpg

Our beauty of the day is one of the most stylish girls of all time (although not the wisest in her choices in men). I have obsessed over her since her first Harper's Bazaar cover in the early '90s, remember? The one of her in a long red gown holding a small snow globe that was a miniature version of herself? Stunning! Do you know who she is?

Fall Fantasy

Something a lot of women forget to do once summer ends is update their makeup. Much like your wardrobe, you shouldn’t wear most of your makeup in both summer and winter. You shouldn’t have two completely different color schemes, stick to what looks good in your skin tone but choose warmer more wintry tones to match the colder temperatures outside. Stila aids in your transition with their Fall Fantasy – A Tale of Enchantment Palette. They’re three different color schemes that embrace warm fall tones all wrapped up in a pretty moss green box with a different piece of agate attached for you to wear if you choose. My favorite of the three is the Laguna Palette, a rich blue color scheme that includes a hearty gunmetal silver and a comforting pink shade for cheeks. There is also Madagascar (Brown) and Moss (Green). The Moss comes with a really unique, dark green shimmer eyeliner. These palettes are limited edition so snap them up soon. It’s the perfect way to start your transition into fall! $32 at Sephora.com Stila Fall Fantasy - A Tale of Enchantment

Me! Bath Ice Cream

bathicecream_blue.gifbathicecream_pink.gif

I saw these at the Bacara Spa and had to get some to try. They look like such fun and I love to take baths so it was a pretty easy sell. These ice cream bath scoops are filled with oils, minerals and fragrances and come in a ton of "flavors". When dropped in water, it fizzes like Alka Seltzer and you see all the oils float to the top. The scent is quite strong, I used the cucumber melon and the entire tub turned blue and pretty much that half of the house smelled like it for a few hours. Good and bad, depending on what you like. I thought it would make a mess of my tub with all those oils but it didn't, although the next time I took a bath the scent kind of lingered. But not totally a bad thing. I did feel the lasting effects of the oils and I smelled really really good for the whole day but at $8 a pop, I'm not sure I will be using these on a regular basis. I shared this bath with my 2 year old daughter who loved it so these are unique gifts for those with kids or for your indulging friend with a sweet tooth! $8.00 for a 6-oz scoop or $28.00 for a set of four at Me!Bath.

T3 Bespoke Labs Evolution Dryer

I saw this at Sephora and my immediate reaction was, what can a $300 blow dryer really do to make it worth that amount of money? But my curiosity was piqued so I had to give it a try. To get a better sense of what I had here, I read through the product info and there were all these technical jargon like T3's tourmaline technology, ionic and infrared properties, ceramic components, softAire™ flow management chassis, blah blah blah. What will all that do for my hair is all I am concerned about. They claim the T3 is ultra lightweight, will dry your hair 70% faster, the ionic and infrared properties from the tourmaline (it's an actual gemstone they use) make your hair smooth, sleek and shiny and that fizz is eliminated by the closing of the hair cuticles.

The first claim is easy, yes this dryer is very light, but heavy blow dryers was never on my list of things to gripe about. 70% faster? I don't know about 70% faster but I have a lot of thick hair so this feature was especially important to me. It does dry my hair much much faster, probably 50% faster and that is quite a feat for my head of hair. I tried this on my 2 year old daughter and it probably did dry her fine wispy hair close to 70% faster (I actually timed all this) and that alone is worth $300 to not have to struggle with her every night with the hair dryer! The most important claim is that this will make your hair sleek, smooth, shiny and fizz free. Oh, it does all that and so much more!! Surprised? I was. So much so that I brought this around to get my family and friends to try it out. Throw away your flat iron because this makes your hair so smooth - no fly aways and completely soft ends. I believe it does close the hair cuticles, my hair actually felt softer and it styles on command with a round brush while drying, something my hair has NEVER done. I have a really good cut right now so for everyday all I have to do is dry my hair and toss it around for a look that would normally require 30 minutes of wrangling - but in about 7 minutes (to clarify, it normally takes 15 minutes to dry my hair, but it takes 30 minutes to dry and style, now it takes only 7 minutes!). My sister has major color and highlights and after 2 uses, her color became brighter and incredibly shiny. I stopped using conditioner on my daughter, she is tangle free when I dry her hair with this dryer.

Is all this worth $300? A resounding YES! My sister, mom and friends all want one and they all had the same reaction I did, which was, "There is nothing you can do to make a $300 blow dryer worth the money". I spend quite a bit getting my hair done and I know many of you do, too. The whole idea is to have beautiful hair and this will do that. And instead of getting special conditioning treatments at the salon to undo damage, why not do your hair a favor and just stop the damage in the first place? Well, there you have it, one of the strongest testimonials ever on Beauty Snob! T3 Bespoke Labs Evolution Dryer at Sephora.

Lush Brows with Talika!

| Leave Comment

talikabrowextender.jpgI always have so much fun browsing my own beauty stash. I find things still packed in the box all the time, it's like getting to shop all over again without having to pay again! The reason I forget to use so many things is because I have lost 50% of my brain cells since giving birth (am concerned with the next one, I may not remember my own name!) and because I am always busy working (I am! I swear!). Anyway, I put my son to bed at 8pm tonight and started poking around my bathroom for stuff to give away (I give away A LOT of beauty products, how else am I going to keep buying more?) and I happened upon a tube of Brow Extender from Talika.

First of all, I don't even recall buying this let alone using it so I took it out of the box and started playing around with it. It's shaped like a marker with a twist on one end and a plastic brush on the other that pumps out a brow gel filled with tiny hair like fibers. I brushed some on my brows, it was kind of gooey but within a minute it dried and it looked like I had the brows I had back in high school! Thick and full! Not only that, it also extended my brows by at least a quarter inch (which I sadly need, my brows are dark and full but unfortunately short). There were a few tiny little fibers left around the brow area that wiped off easily with a Q tip but other than that, it was totally mess free! You can throw out your eyebrow pencils, brushes and whatnots my beauties! You have no idea how excited I was to discover this amazing product right in my own bathroom! You would have thought I found a million dollars or something, I was dancing around and called all my girlfriends to share which irritated my husband to no end cuz I am supposed to pay attention to him when he comes home or something like that (see, I can't even remember my wifely duties). $33 at Spa Look (Get a Get a free Talika Mini Eyelash Curler & cosmetic bag with your next $30 Talika purchase!
). See lush brows from Gucci Westman of Lancome on the runway after the jump!

Natura Bisse Diamond Magnetic

diamond%20magnetic%20%282%29.jpg
The Healing Power of Diamonds:

Despite trying multiple luxury creams for review, Diamonds are still my best friend, as in Natura Bisse's Diamond line of products. Latest from the line is Diamond Magnetic, a holistic approach to Magnetic and Gem Therapy through the ancient art of crystal healing and the use of magnets. Not just pretty to look at, diamonds are powerful energy cleansers renowned for their ability to transform energy and to draw hidden imbalances to surface and release them bringing balance and harmony to the body and mind. Lucky me, I got to try Diamond Magnetic firsthand at Natura Bisse's headquarters over the summer and I have been anxiously awaiting the launch of the product ever since!

The specialist at Natura Bisse covered me in the diamond/iron dust concoction (a thick paste that promises to purify and cleanse the skin) and as I worried about how I was going to wash it all off before getting back in my very white dress she pulled out a crystal tool that looked like something out of a movie. She then started moving it across my arm and the mask LIFTED off my skin as if it was magic! What was left was sleek and velvety skin dressed in Diamond dust! There is a magnetic piece at the tip of the tool that attracts the iron in the mask which ensures a clean removal. How did I feel afterwards? Relaxed and happy, as if they lifted any stress I had with the diamond dust. I am a big believer in Holistic healing and with Diamond Magnetic I can heal and cleanse right at home!

This will be available at Neiman Marcus and Neiman Marcus.com in November, you must call and schedule an appointment to try it out for yourself! 214-363-8311

$270 for 10.5 ounces (it usually costs over $100 to receive a holistic energy healing session, this jar will last you at least a dozen treatments so it is well worth the price!)

Soap Leaves from Trace Elements

soapleaves_MED.jpg

I am a liquid hand soap girl, bar soap makes me feel unclean, especially when I don't know who has been using it. In my own bathroom, sure, but to be honest, at other people's houses, even if I know them well, I don't enjoy using their bar soap. And they're messy on top of it! Here is an alternative that is not only beautiful and elegant but sanitary! These honey scented soap leaves will impress any guest and will spruce up your bathroom when displayed. These come neatly stacked in a box and are perfect little host gifts for when you go to dinner parties. These soap leaves are molded from real leaves, giving them the true texture and natural beauty of leaves. I love it! Get them at Trace Elements, box of 20 for $12.50.

Bootie Pies

blackberry.jpg
Post by Beauty Snob Michelle

I want to preface this entry by saying that I live in Boston. It gets really cold and really snowy here. That leads to some necessary evils like wearing Ugg boots. I know all the arguments against them. I’ve heard them all and made a few myself. But the fact remains that they are warm and keep my feet dry. While the girl in the cube next to me is peeling her frostbitten feet out of her wet socks, I’m kicking off my comfy Uggs and happily putting on my cute heels. Anyway, the reason for my whole rant is to tell you that I love Bootie Pies! Last winter I treated myself and went for pedicures a lot. But it’s pretty gross to stuff your foot back in a boot after your pedicure is over. Plastic bags ruin your toes and if you wear your flip flops your toes freeze! So, some super smart girls came up with this idea. They’re Ugg-like boots with toes that press down. You put them on before your polish and then you can run to your car with (mostly) warm feet and not ruin your pedicure. It’s starting to get cold here so I wore them to a pedicure last week. I got some strange looks but for the most part, people in the salon kept telling me how great they were and how much they wanted a pair. I highly recommend these fun boots! They’re probably not good for people who have to take public transportation because you will probably look a little silly with your toes hanging out on the subway in the middle of the winter! I was skeptical at first too but if you give them a chance I know you’ll love them as much as I do. They come in five fun colors and they’re $128 a pair. www.bootiepies.com

What do you Beauty Snobs think? Are these booties snob worthy or not?

Things are looking Rosy with Physicians Formula

| Leave Comment

BigImage.aspx.jpgBigImage.aspxlipplump.jpg
You don't have to stop glowing just because the winter blues are looming around the corner, the key look for Fall is a healthy matte glow (not dry or cakey but a rosy flush like you just skied off the Aspen slopes!) that you can achieve easily with one of America's favorite drugstore brands, Physicians Formula. They offer a variety of multi-hued blushers that you can blend to your perfect shade of rosy glow. The Mineral wear powders and blushes are talc free and perfect for those Beauty Snobs with problematic skin so you won't have to worry about clogged pores! I like the blushing rose cheek color as it is the most natural but there are half a dozen for you to choose from! $10.95

I also received three shades of Plump Potion lip gloss that promises to fill in lines and plump up your lips. I've been using the pale pink and it stings a bit for the first few minutes of application and has a very strong fragrance (almost like a self tanner scent). If you can get past all that, it has a nice and smooth consistency although I don't know about plumping my lips to Angelina fullness. $8.95 at your local drugstore or Physician's Formula Website.

Prescriptives: The luxury of custom blend

prescriptivesglosscolors.jpgPrescriptives make up was a favorite when I was in college but through the years had faded to the back of my mind as a fond memory. I still remember the gray compacts I used to carry around with me in the early '90s, it was so modern and chic, the young and cool sibling to Estee Lauder line of products. But I lost track of my favorite items from Prescriptives as new brands lured me away with fancy colors and gimmicky shades. Last year I returned to the Prescriptives counter after almost a decade away and had a lip gloss from another company recreated as it was discontinued, the make up artist did such an amazing job mixing the exact shade of my gloss that I started paying attention to Prescriptives again. I discovered many women obsessed with Prescriptives custom blend foundation and who swear it is the only way to look natural and dewy. Honestly, I didn't really believe any of them, I was a Chanel foundation addict and didn't think any brand could match the dewiness my Teint Innocence provided me. Well, I was proven wrong last week at the Prescriptives counter at Bergdorf Goodman's infamous beauty basement!

2007 Emmy's Fashion

| Leave Comment

I thought the Emmy's was really entertaining last night. I love awards shows so I might be biased but I though the pace was good and that people were pretty funny and Ryan Seacrest not as annoying as I was certain he would be. America and Katherine Heigl won, yay!!, The Office didn't win, boo!! but who cares right? You want to know what people wore so let's get to it.

emmys_jaimepressly.jpgEmmy_America.jpg

Jaime Pressly wore St. John, bad choice for anyone under 50, I don't care that Angelina Jolie's image is supposed to make it more hip, it is better saved for old age. The black and silver print combo always yells "old person trying to look dressed up!", waist down it was fine, Jaime has that weight lifter body, but the bust area looks like oversized breast feeding floppy boob attire. America looked really great and slim, the draping was extremely flattering on her, unfortunately the color and the waist band made it very prommy.

8 Foods You Should Eat Daily for Optimum Health

0907TPC_8foods_main.jpg

Our tech nerdie, aka Kelly's husband, is useful beyond words. In addition to keeping us online and in business by keeping up with all of our technical work, he also scans the web for articles that would be of interest to us. This is one of the articles he sent me last month which I think every Beauty Snob should read! I eat most of the items on the list but am now more diligent about all of it. I believe in eating only fresh foods (I do not even own a can opener and am planning to rid of my microwave!) and have raised my soon to be three year old son to love spinach and broccoli. With so many of our friends diagnosed with cancer I feel like the least we can do is control what we put in our bodies. Being youthful and beautiful is just a small perk to the health benefits you'll receive.

Have a happy lavender day!

| Leave Comment

bath_body_butter_creme.jpg
Another amazing place I visited when I was in Maui was the Alii Kula Lavender farm. I’ve already talked about all the great benefits of lavender so I won’t lecture all of you on it again. I did learn some new facts about lavender though, like the fact that you can use it as an antiseptic and the fact that it is one of the least allergenic plants. It really is an amazing plant and the farm was one of the most beautiful and relaxing places I have ever been in my life. It’s nestled up in the hills of Maui and everywhere you walk there is a beautiful and exotic plant to look at. Everyone was so friendly and laid back, it was amazing! The reason I tell all of you about this is because Alii has teamed up with local businesses to create an amazing line of beauty products. They are some of the best smelling and effective products I have ever tried. I had to seriously restrain myself to keep from buying them all! In the end, I choose the Waterless Hand Soap, the Lavender Lime Lip Balm with Mango Butter and the Body Butter Creme. I also brought a Lavender filled pillow insert for when I get migraines. All of the products are wonderful and top quality. The body butter leaves my skin feeling amazingly soft and supple. I’m already addicted to the Lip Balm and put it on almost compulsively throughout the day. Alii has a website and I highly encourage you to check it out and purchase some of the products. The smell is great and not to overwhelming at all. We met Alii as we were walking around and he is super sweet and nice. He told us all about how much he loves his plants and encouraged us to visit his website if we got lonely once we left Maui! I could have stayed and talked to him all day. So visit the website (and if you’re ever in Kula, Maui visit him) and as he called after us as we were walking away, “Have a happy lavender day!” www.aliikulalavender.com

Goats do surf!

soap_goat_milk_sm.jpg
Post by Beauty Snob Michelle

When I was vacationing in Maui this past week I visited a goat farm. Yes, I’m aware that from everything you guys much know about me by now I don’t really seem like the type of girl to hang out on a goat farm in my spare time. But my friend promised that it would be fun so I put on the most farm appropriate outfit I had and played along. Turns out it was so much fun! The goats were adorable and friendly, the homemade cheese was amazing and I found a brand new beauty product in the place I least expected it. Surfing Goat Dairy makes the most amazing goat’s milk soap. The milk has natural emollients that moisturize the skin and leaves it feeling like you just put on lotion. Surfing Goat makes their soap in over 20 different scents, so no matter what smells you like there is almost definitely one for you there. I brought the coconut and the pineapple and they smell so amazing that they’re both in my shower right now and I alternate! I highly recommend using any type of goat’s milk soap, but encourage you to try out Surfing Goat’s. They’re an amazing place and everyone was so friendly. I’m dreading the day my soaps run out, but it means I get to order more from the web site! Plus, at only $6.00 a bar, they’re a steal. While you’re on the website, make sure to order some of their amazing cheeses. (The Rolling Green cheese was my favorite.) www.surfinggoatdairy.com

kosepopquiz6.jpgUPDATE: This is none other than the fabulous Jennifer Lopez. Congrat Carolyn, you're the winner!

This is so perfect! I am laughing to myself right now at how funny this is. We had her as a pop quiz question before but this shot is so appropo for this beauty with the famous derriere. As if you need more hints, she is seen here at Fashion Week. I love doing these pop quizzes because I get to pick all the people I am enamored with. OK, the secret it out, I have a same sex crush on her =)

Leave your answer in comments. Game Rules here. First person to get it right will win the Kose Sekkisei Brightening Mask! Good luck!
