I’m totally prone to dark circles around my eyes. I have pale, pale skin and that combined with the fact that I frequently don’t get as much sleep as I should makes for embarrassing under eye circle more often than I’d like to admit. One trick I’ve learned over the years is to take light pink eyeshadow or eye pencil and put some color in the corners of your eyes. The pink will lighten up your entire face and looks surprisingly natural. This was a trick I was doubtful about at first, but seriously works. I find if you smudge a little under your bottom eyelid it will help as well. (Not too much, the pink isn’t a concealer and you don’t want to over do it.) Continuing my new obsession with Tarte, I just ordered Rest Assured, their light pink brightening wand. It’s specifically designed to help liven up tired eyes so I’m incredibly excited to try it. I’ve not been disappointed with anything else I’ve tried from this line and I’m hoping this will follow suite! $22 at beauty.com tarte rest assured brightening wand

Hi BSMichelle: have you tried the Benefit eye brightener pencil? It works in a similar fashion. I put some in the inner corner of my eye and the outer corner and then inside my eyebrow at the arch.
Also worth a try is the Mally Matte Light brightening wand.
I have a similar problem as you do, and for me I liked the pencil but the pink cream highlighter is goopy. I like Benefit's High Beam and Eye Bright much better, but I really hope you find more positive results with this product. Have you tried Smashbox Photo Op Under Eye Brightener? I've heard that is fantastic as well.
