Yours truly will be attending Fashion Week in New York city for the Spring 2008 shows next week. I am excited to see all the shows and have been receiving invitations all week for some of the best designers in the tents! (Vera Wang and Tuleh featuring Jada Loveless bags being the two shows I am most looking forward to!) In between the shows I will be hanging out at the Daily Suites in Bryant Park Hotel. Cygalle Healing spa is offering free organic treatments at the suite and I have signed up for reflexology and energy healing to get me through the 5-6 shows a day I plan on seeing!

The more I explore Fresh’s line of Sugar products, the more I absolutely love them! Tina has gotten me hooked on the Sugar Lip Balm and little by little I’m buying up everything! My latest addiction is this Sugar Lychee Body Lotion. It’s fantastic! It smells so warm and yummy and totally reminds me of being wrapped up in a big, comfy blanket. (A little abstract, I know, but take a whiff of this stuff and I feel you’ll understand!) It’s really dry in my office so I keep this on my desk and am almost compulsive about putting it on. My skin stays so soft and supple and it’s totally not greasy at all. Plus, the scent gives me a happy little high when I’m in the middle of a stressful day at work. $25 at Sephora.com Fresh SugarBath Body Lotion 10 oz Sugar Lychee

So I’m still makeup shopping for my fabulous trip to Maui this week. (I guess I sort of have my priorities messed up – I already have a bunch of new makeup but still no bathing suit!) Anyway, one of the new things I got was this really smart lip gloss set from CARGO. Their GlossBox is seven different shades of lip gloss (2 wands of each shade) packaged in a handy little case. This is perfect for traveling because the wands are essentially only good for a few applications, so if you loose them or leave them in a hotel it’s not much of a loss. There are all the practical colors you could want in the box (with the exception of the green). From nude shine to a raspberry shimmer you’re almost certain to find a shade you like. This will be perfect for my trip because it’s one less thing to pack on the way home. All the better to fit everything I buy! $15 at Sephora.com CARGO GlossBox

I am having a ball re-discovering MAC cosmetics. With so many new collections it is hard to resist it all! Well, almost all of it, the Beauty Snob has to draw the line at metallic blue nail polish but that doesn't mean I am not all over the brilliant blue eyeshadows which are so right on target this Fall! Let's start with the Smoke Signals collection. I found this collection to be really wearable for both day and night, smoky eyeshadows paired with neutral blushes and lip colors is one of the hottest looks of the season and is flattering on almost everyone!
The smoke eyeshadow quad 01 is a gorgeous palette of smoky greys and blues. Remember the key to smoky eyes is to blend blend blend! I used the dark shadows at the outer corners and blended the lighter shades in the center of my lids and the inner corners. $36 at MAC
This is my absolute favorite of the collection, apply the pale peach shimmer below your brow bone and watch your eyes literally pop! The espresso brown shade is matte and looks amazing on the outer corners. I used the darkest shade as eyeliner with a wet brush and the result was amazing. We had dinner with one of my husband's oldest friend and he kept saying how I look better each year (he's a total metro sexual who notices everything so I knew he meant it!) $36 at MAC
The Ablaze blush gives just a hint of color, like you went for a jog, had a good game of tennis or an afternoon romp. $17 at MAC
I am a pink lip gloss girl so this super pale shade called Illicit took getting used to but I have to admit, it allowed my eyes to be center stage. $14 at MAC
I really have no use for lipstick these days as I am a lip gloss addict but some people still prefer it as a base and the "Barely Lit" shade did make the pale gloss last longer. $14 at MAC. Smoke Signals Collection at MAC website and MAC stores worldwide.

At Spalook.com Elke the fabulous Make up Artist (and founder of the Beauty Blog Network) has offered to do my brows while I am in New York, I am so excited as my brows have been suffering ever since my over zealous plucking days in the '90s. In the meantime, I am prepping them with the most amazing eyebrow conditioner from Talika. I've used this for a month now and my eyebrows are noticeably fuller, I am also seeing lots of hairs growing back around the brows which I am resisting plucking until I can get to Elke. I love that there is a mirror so you can literally apply this anywhere, even in the back of a cab (though I doubt you'd want to do that). It's very lightweight and does not leave residue, so you can swipe and apply your make up immediately. I use it twice daily and my eyebrows also feel really soft! $38 at Spalook, spend a bit more and you'll qualify for free shipping! This is a MUST try for the eyebrow challenged.

Update: Congratulations to Elaine for spotting Reese Witherspoon under that hat!
I may have featured today's celeb already in a previous entry but I just adore her so you'll have to get used to seeing her on Beauty Snob. She's a perky blonde with brains to boot although her taste in men is questionable. I want to black out her entire face and making you guys guess just from her hair but then no one would win would they? If you know who she is, leave it comments. One of my best friends just brought her first house. It’s really scary in that “my friends are growing up and marrying and buying houses and having babies” sort of way. I was having the hardest time figuring out what to get her for a housewarming present. I ended up getting her a bunch of things for her guest bathroom. It was really fun to shop for and no one else had gotten her anything remotely close. (She did, however, get enough plants to fill a greenhouse.) One of the things that I put in my gift basket was this set of twelve guest soaps from L’Occitane. There are four different scents - Verbena, Honey, Olive Oil and Lavender and they all smell delicious! They’re also packaged into this great little box so you can keep them out on a shelf and they still look like decoration. I always love how L’Occitane wraps its products. They take such care with them that even if you’re in the local mall, you feel like you’ve brought products at an exclusive boutique in France. Set of twelve soaps $20 at Sephora.com. This Fall, bring on the glamour! Forget the boring nude and beige shades, it's time to rouge your cheeks and stain your lips in creamy red shades. Smoky purple and blue eyes are also de riguer this season but how does that all translate on your face without turning you into a clown? Danny Sanz, Creator of Make Up Forever teaches you how to make the look your very own:
Lipstick is back- Veronica Lake had it right - red lips are sexy and classic. Line lips with a waterproof lip liner such as Aqua Lip #9C ($16.00) to create definition and to keep lipstick put. Fill in lined lips with a cherry red, moisturizing lipstick like Lipstick #207 ($18.00). Seal the deal with a lip sealant to keep the red hue from fading throughout the day such as NEW Lip Seal ($20.00).
Purple reigns- Reminiscent of Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra, these days smoky eyes aren’t just for evening. Use purple hues for a lighter, daytime-friendly look. Line top lash line with a deep purple cream liner, such as the NEW Aqua Creamliner #5 ($20.00). Swipe a burgundy shadow such as NEW Diamond Eye Shadow #311 ($20.00) over the lid and brow bone. Finish the look with two coats of a lash extending mascara such as Lengthening Mascara ($19.00).

I am ready to pass out with excitement over the announcement of La Prarie's latest product, the Skin Caviar Luxe Eye Cream; being launched in September, it will put eye creams in a "whole new arena," said Lynne Florio, president of La Prairie. I am curious to how they will improve upon perfection and can't wait to find out. The eye cream will retail for $275 for 20ml and is expected to bring $30 million in world wide sales the first year (how many will that be? Roughly 109,090 jars). Yes it is more than double the cellular eye cream but I bet it will be a sell out. I've mentioned my obsession with La Prarie eye cream so you know I'll be first in line at Saks when this hits the stores! Make sure you contact your La Prarie specialist immediately and put your name on the list!

This is by far the strangest beauty related news I have ever heard, apparently in China the rage is to sit in a shallow pool while thousands of fish naw at your skin. The fish is called Garra Rufa (or Doctor Fish) and is used for treatment of skin disease. From the article:
A newly emerged "fish spa" is becoming fashionable in many hot spring resorts, and has attracted even more customers, all curious about this peculiar treatment. At such a spa, many Garra Rufa, a type of small tropical fish, also nicknamed Chinchin Yu, nibble fish or simply doctor fish, are put in hot springs. As they can live and swim freely in at least 43-degree-hot waters, they are naturally used for the treatment of skin diseases in such spas.
When placed in the spa, these fish can feed themselves on the dead cells of the human body, since they only consume such cells, leaving the healthy skin of the human body to grow. The whole process is reportedly free of pain. It won't hurt and the bather might feel a pleasant tingling on his or her skin. Complete article here.
I don't know about you but I feel itchy all over right now and feel the need for a hot shower, sans fish. What about you, would you sit in a tub for a Magic Fish Spa treatment?

Update: Congratulations to Trudi Shaw for correctly guessing Cameron Diaz!
The blonde cutie of the day has the most enviable legs in Hollywood but her sunny disposition is her most appealing quality. I met her at Mossimo's famous Christmas party in LA (with fake snow and all!) about 12 years ago and she is just as cute now as she was back then! Any guesses? This should be easy as her smile is so recognizable. Call it a weekend gift :) Happy Friday everyone!

As per usual, this review requires a bit of background. Eventually everyone is going to know my entire life story! So back in high school I did not wear makeup. Gasp! I know hard to believe right. Now, I have enough makeup I could practically open my own makeup counter. But there was a reason. I had contact lenses and for the life of me I could not find a brand that did not irritate my eyes. Until one of my friends did a little investigation and discovered that Prescriptives makeup was all ophthalmologist tested and deemed safe for contact lens wearers!
Once I discovered that I could wear makeup I was like a kid in a candy store. And by “kid”, I mean 16 years old and by “candy store” I mean the Prescriptives counter at Nordstrom. Every occasion, from Formal to Proms to Columbus Day I went to have my makeup done. The Prescriptives Counter may as well have been “Cheers” and I was Norm coming in to occupy my usual stool. Each time the artist would use Super Line Preventor to prep my skin and being a teenager, I was skeptical. I was told for my age, it was really more of a makeup base. It was light weight and did not make my skin oily. So along with my Prom lipstick, my mother agreed to purchase a bottle of SLP (Super Line Preventor).
So fast forward ten years and I am still obsessed! From that very first bottle, I have been a full-fledged Prescriptives junkie. I really can not live without this product. When I’m super busy and have not had time to replenish my supply, it only takes about 3 days sans SLP for me to hightail it to Nordstrom to restock. Now, much to my delight they have reformulated Super Line Preventor into Super Line Preventor Xtreme! I just started using the new formula a week ago and I love it! Xtreme is a bit different in color and slightly thicker, thus even more awesome. My skin feels so smooth and even and my makeup goes on like a dream. My mom and I have been cleaning out old photographs this summer and I swear I look exactly the same I did in high school, well with better brows and a better haircut, but my skin has not aged at all! I totally ascribe this fountain of youth effect it to SLP! If I was relegated to a make up free island (or to New Jersey) and had to survive with only one beauty product this would be it. So for snobs of all ages, I highly recommend Prescriptives Super Line Preventor Xtreme, available at Nordstrom!

I love eyeshadow! I think that it’s one of the more fun aspects of makeup and I tend to buy eyeshadow for any occasion that I can find. No, really! I brought green eyeshadow in celebration of St Patrick’s Day. Anyway, I am totally loving this new Purple Haze eyeshadow from Urban Decay. I brought it to celebrate my vacation to Maui next week! Unlike so many other eyeshadows that I’m seeing these days, Purple Haze doesn’t have any sparkle to it. It’s a part of Urban Decay’s Matte Eyeshadow line. It’s a great bright purple shade that really adds a touch of fun to your makeup. It’s really bold, so you’ll want to go light on the rest of your makeup so you don’t look like a clown. If you’re looking for something a little more toned down, the matte line comes in a whole bunch of other colors. I also like the ABC Gum, a light peach color that is perfect for layering. $16 at Sephora.com Urban Decay Matte Eyeshadow Purple Haze

Eat your way to health and beauty? How about eating yummy gummi bears? Borba's line of Acai berry gummi bears claim that they provide the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that will restore your skin's radiance, clean your pores and clear up your skin. Too good to be true? Well, this is nothing more than any multi-vitamin that is essential to good health and the yummy gummi format is just like the kind we had when we were kids. The big deal is it contains acai berriers, which is the new miracle cure-all. Dr. Perricone has proclaimed it the #1 superfood. It is a berry from a palm tree that is grown in South America. Research has found that in the lab it actually killed human leukemia cells (it is not yet determined if it will prevent leukemia in humans). The potential of this fruit is not yet fully known but it is the richest in antioxidants of any food. It is highly perishable so unless you are a neighbor of the Amazon, chances are you will not be getting fresh acai berries. So the best you can do is freeze dried powder or alternatives like this Borba Gummi. I did pop a few in my mouth and they taste just like candy (the texture is smoochier and are sweeter than regular gummies). They recommend that you eat as many as you like but don't worry, 2 gummies are only 15 calories, 3 grams of sugar, totally fat free and organic. $25 for a pack of 136 gummies at Sephora.

It is so hot right now, I feel like I am constantly sweaty. I even feel icky and sweaty when I wake up in the morning so the last thing I feel like doing is applying a thick, heavy moisturizer over my already slick face. I know the imagery is a little much but it's August so I know you can all relate. But of course, we cannot go without moisturizing and it's an absolute sin to not apply sunscreen, that is why this Awake Skin Renovation Day Cream is so great. This is the lightest moisturizer I've ever used, and it still has everything I need, including SPF 17 and antioxidants to prevent aging and promote cell regeneration. I usually go overboard with my moisturizers, I use super anti aging and anti wrinkle treatments so that I can be ahead of the game, but honestly in the middle of summer, I just can't deal with heavy creams. With this Awake product, I avoid having to walk around with an oil spill on my face and don't need to compromise my obsession with not getting wrinkles. At Neiman Marcus for $65.

Just a fair warning this is going to be a bit personal, I’ve been waxing since I was 11. What can I say? I’m Italian, and grammar school kids can be so cruel. Hair removal is my life. Since I’ve been a waxing regularly for well over a decade, I’d like to think I’m impervious to the pain at this point (especially since I’ve had pretty much anything and everything waxed).
I figured a good way to test No-Scream Cream would be to use it on half of my upper lip. For some reason I’m less squeamish about putting this stuff on my face than . . . you know, down there. It advises application 30-45 minutes prior to waxing. When I first put it on it was very thick and white and took a bit of rubbing to get it to absorb completely. After 3 minutes my lip was already numb! It felt sort of strange and tingly, but numb. Ok I waited the 30 min and then started waxing! So I waxed away, and on the side where I used the numbing cream the pain was significantly less. It didn’t completely erase the pain but substantially dulled it!
Two weeks later I was ready to test it out on my bikini line. This time I did not feel any tingling when I first applied it. After waiting the recommended 30 minutes before the waxing began, I am disappointed to say, it felt the same as usual! What a let down after the great results on my face. Having now used the No Scream Cream in two locations, I would have to conclude that this product works best in small doses. It did wonders on my lip, and I would imagine it would do the same for an eyebrow wax, but alas it did not lessen the pain for a bikini wax. I would only recommend this product for those who are super squeamish about getting their eyebrows or lips done, as I did not find it effective for a bikini wax. I guess we’ll just have to continue to suffer for the sake of beauty! Get it at Amazon.

I tend to get really aggravated in the summer when I’m wearing long pants with open back heels. I always end up walking on the bottoms of my pants instead of my shoes and then everything gets bunched up and then I trip because I’m kind of a klutz. Someone went and invented these awesome things called Stiffs that stick to the inside of your pants on the hemline and keep them straight so they don’t get all bunched up and wrinkled at the bottom. I know some of you might be wondering about the need for these. (My roommate told me I was crazy.) My pants getting all wonky at the bottoms is one of my pet peeves so I’m just thrilled that someone invented a fix for it! $10 at shopintuition.com

I’ve always really likes Pop Beauty. They’re a cute little company that produces really good makeup in really fun colors. My new obsession from them is their Mini Ribbon Gloss in Daisy Glow. It’s a trio of lip glosses all packaged together in a tin. (And tins are great because just the other day I opened my bag to find my Sugar Lip Balm and one of my lipsticks totally melted! It was gross and at least with tins, if the gloss gets melty it will harden again with almost no change to it.) Daisy glow is three light pink shades that are perfect for late summer. I also love the Crayola bright colors in the Poppy Red tin, but my skin is to light to wear them. Only $10 at Sephora.com Pop Beauty Mini Ribbon Gloss

I have bangs. They usually waver between actual eyebrow length and long side swept bangs depending on if I have time to get a haircut that month. Right now they are long and chunky and across my face sort of like Anne Hathaway’s in The Devil Wears Prada. I’m telling you all this so you can understand that my bangs are a constant struggle and as much as I love my hairdresser (Hi Michael!) I don’t always get to take as much advantage of the free bang cuts as I’d like. They grow like weeds and there was one experiment with my kitchen scissors and a badly lit mirror that I can’t even talk about! So anyway, I went out and brought myself some proper haircutting scissors. Now I want to make it clear that I don’t advocate cutting your own hair unless you’ve been properly trained to, but sometimes time gets crunched and you have no choice. I got these Tweezerman scissors and they definitely work better then the ones I keep in my kitchen junk drawer. I get my hair cut ever six weeks but my bangs need a trim about every two weeks. These come in really handy and give a nice smooth cut. $25 at Sephora, com Tweezerman Hair Shears
