Oh the things I do for you guys! Right now I smell like the earthiest, grossest spa around all because I was determined not to judge a beauty product by its cover. Let me first say that I have nothing against Kathy Hilton. I think she lets her kids run a little wild and I think her reality show “Who Wants to be a Hilton?” was a seriously misguided career choice but otherwise, I’m okay with her. Now she has her own line of beauty products. I tried them out because I thought “Hey, if my daughter was Paris Hilton, I’d have a lot of wrinkles and frown lines too. Maybe she’s taken all her money and came up with a really quality beauty product. I’m not going to judge because of who she is and where she’s choosing to sell her products (HSN).” I really like Jonathan Products for my hair and if I remember Blow Out correctly, Jonathan started selling it on infomercials. This is, unfortunately, not the case with Kathy Hilton Personal Beauty Spa. I tried both the “Hot Effect” Sculpting Treatment and the “Cold Effect” Firming Pack. Both need to be shaken to achieve the temperature effects. The Sculpting Treatment refused to get hot, no matter how long shook it for so I gave up and opened it anyway. The mudlike substance bubbled out of the top and down the side of the container – good thing I was in the bathtub. I stirred it up with the plastic spatula and smeared some on my thighs and some on my arm. This was supposed to tone and revitalize the skin. Maybe it’s something that has to be used for a period of time, but all it did for me was dry, harden, smell bad and then make itself really hard to wash off.
I took a deep breath and tried the Firming Pack next. This one was slightly better. No real odor and it actually achieved the desired temperature when I shook it up. It, however, sat on my neck like Nair and then left a gross residue. It did however leave my skin softer than before.
I imagine these are products that are supposed to be used over a period of time (that’s just a guess – the packaging doesn’t really have much information on it) but after my first use, I definitely won’t go back to try again. Kathy Hilton’s Personal Beauty Snob debuts on HSN on July 31st.
