Nivea Good-bye Cellulite Gel Cream

nivea.jpgDo you know what swimsuit models were slathering on during Miami Fashion Week this month? No, it was not self bronzer nor glitter dust. It was Nivea's Good-bye Cellulite gel! I received samples of it last week and have been diligently massaging it on my thighs, buttocks and lower belly every night. I wanted to give it a full week before giving you a report and I think I am starting to notice a difference! Its not that I am any thinner or have lost inches but the skin on my thighs, buttocks and tummy definitely look smoother. The products is made of L-Carnitine (amino acids found on the skin and in our liver and kidneys that help in the consumption and disposal of fat in the body) which they claim supports the conversion of fat into energy when applied on the skin.

This is not a miracle gel but I think with healthy diet and regular exercise this will enhance the appearance of your skin! Nivea Body Good-bye Cellulite Smoothing Cellulite Gel-Cream $11.69 at Drugstore.com

Post from Beauty Snob Nicole

Let me preface this review by explaining how I discovered this product, so please bear with me. Last Christmas I found myself at a loss for what to get for my brother’s girlfriend. Let me just say that she is impossibly stylish. Not only is she drop-dead gorgeous (tall, thin, blond), but she’s been written up on Page 6. I mean come on, there was no way I was going to pick something out for her. Then I stumbled upon a page in a magazine, entitled something like a Stylist’s Arsenal. Basically all the tricks that Hollywood stylists use to make their clients look fabulous. Perfect!

I’m sure you can see where I’m going with this. One of those items was the Miss Oops sponge. As long as I was buying a set for her, I went ahead and ordered a set for myself. Well really, I did it to get free shipping. I’m a sucker for free shipping. Anyway let me tell you this is totally one of those products that you would never really think of, but then once you have it you can’t imagine how you ever lived without it. They remove deodorant, baby powder and powdered makeup from your clothes! I am totally obsessed! They are so handy, so small, so convenient and they completely live up to the claims. How many times have you been running out the door only to discover white marks or face powder or even worse, discover them after you’ve left. These are inexpensive (two for $10), so you can keep one in your purse, car, office, bathroom etc. And they come in a handy little plastic baggie that keeps other crud off the sponge. Genius!

This is truly an essential to keep every beauty snob looking fabulous!

Beam it up with Light Beam Lip Gloss!

rimmelbeamitup.jpg
I just discovered the most snobulous product, Rimmel London's Light Beam Lip Gloss! I wish it was available back in the day when I was club hopping from Hong Kong, LA, New York to London and back because it is totally genius. Why is it so genius you ask? Well, there is an LED light on the cap and a mirror on the vial so you can freshen up your lip gloss while riding in a cab on your way to a hot date or while waiting in line for the restroom at restaurants or nightclubs to save time! I do not recommend doing it at the dinner table though (I actually do not approve of putting on any kind of make up at the table, it's just tacky and I don't care who says it is acceptable, no one needs to be privy to your grooming habits while trying to have a nice meal).

The Light Beam Lip Gloss is available in six delish sheer shades: In the Mix: pale pink, After Hours: cherry red, Spotlight: pale purple, In the Limelight : gold, Disco Ball : clear with silver shimmer and Strobe Light : metallic silver.

rimmel3.jpgI got "In the Mix", it looked bright pink in the bottle but was subtle and pretty when applied and incredibly shiny which I love. I also love the slick and smooth texture of the lip gloss and can I just say again how convenient the little mirror is? The LED light is a bit unnecessary in my life as I am in bed by dark but for you young glamour girls partying til late at night, this is a must have in your make up bag! Rimmel Underground Light Beam After Dark Lip Gloss, In the Mix $11.59 at Drugstore.com with everyday free shipping!

MAC Flashtronic & Rushmetal

IMG_1340.jpg

Wearing MAC's latest lines of metallic cosmetics, Flashtronics and Rushmetal, makes me feel like a rock star! My skin shimmers and glimmers as if I had spent hours under the sun and I just feel so glam. It looks totally flashy and scary bright in the bottle but was beautifully wearable on the skin! I tried out almost every color in order to find the most flattering tones on me and surprisingly most of the colors worked. My favorite is the Mineralized skin finish compact powder in Northern Light, the smorgasbord of pink, brown and rust colors looked the most natural though if you have darker skin, the Global Glow would be pretty too.

The Tinted Lip Glass is what you'd expect from MAC, fabulously glossy and ultra shiny, the way all lip glosses should be. Young Spark and Electro Lush are great neutral colors, it worked on me and our Tot Snob Editor, Jori. You must grab a tube before summer ends!

maceyeshadow.bmp
I also loved playing with the Mineralized Eye Shadows, it's a bunch of colors baked together so you can blend to your hearts content! We loved Quarry for its mix of sky blue with olive, coral and beige veining (Frost). MAC Flashtronic and Rushmetal available at MAC counters July 19th - Aug 20th. Get it while you can!

Want to be a beauty insider?

So, I wanted to take a second and tell you guys about a really cool feature on Sephora.com. It’s their membership club and it’s totally free. Usually things like this charge a small one-time only fee, but not this. Once you fill out all of your information you get all sorts of personalized beauty tips and products. They ask you a bunch of questions about your skin type, eye and skin color and likes / dislikes in order to fill your personal profile better. Every time you sign in, you get a personalized page with products that match up to the survey you filled out. You get first access to many Sephora exclusive products (like the great lipgloss set above!) and free stuff on your birthday. The best part Is that you don’t get a lot of annoying junk mail from Sephora. I signed up about a month ago, when the program first began and have only gotten one or two emails since. You choose when you want to access the information. Even if you sign up just to get the exclusive free samples when you spend $100 at Sephora.com (that happens more than I’d like to admit!) it will be worth the 10 minutes it took to fill out the form. Kathy Hilton - Beauty Snob?

hilton.jpg
Post by Beauty Snob Michelle

Oh the things I do for you guys! Right now I smell like the earthiest, grossest spa around all because I was determined not to judge a beauty product by its cover. Let me first say that I have nothing against Kathy Hilton. I think she lets her kids run a little wild and I think her reality show “Who Wants to be a Hilton?” was a seriously misguided career choice but otherwise, I’m okay with her. Now she has her own line of beauty products. I tried them out because I thought “Hey, if my daughter was Paris Hilton, I’d have a lot of wrinkles and frown lines too. Maybe she’s taken all her money and came up with a really quality beauty product. I’m not going to judge because of who she is and where she’s choosing to sell her products (HSN).” I really like Jonathan Products for my hair and if I remember Blow Out correctly, Jonathan started selling it on infomercials. This is, unfortunately, not the case with Kathy Hilton Personal Beauty Spa. I tried both the “Hot Effect” Sculpting Treatment and the “Cold Effect” Firming Pack. Both need to be shaken to achieve the temperature effects. The Sculpting Treatment refused to get hot, no matter how long shook it for so I gave up and opened it anyway. The mudlike substance bubbled out of the top and down the side of the container – good thing I was in the bathtub. I stirred it up with the plastic spatula and smeared some on my thighs and some on my arm. This was supposed to tone and revitalize the skin. Maybe it’s something that has to be used for a period of time, but all it did for me was dry, harden, smell bad and then make itself really hard to wash off.

I took a deep breath and tried the Firming Pack next. This one was slightly better. No real odor and it actually achieved the desired temperature when I shook it up. It, however, sat on my neck like Nair and then left a gross residue. It did however leave my skin softer than before.

I imagine these are products that are supposed to be used over a period of time (that’s just a guess – the packaging doesn’t really have much information on it) but after my first use, I definitely won’t go back to try again. Kathy Hilton’s Personal Beauty Snob debuts on HSN on July 31st.

The Fit Flop: Snob or Slob?

fitflop.jpg Can walking in a pair of Fit Flops really lead you to slim thighs and a smaller derriere? After I gave birth I bought a pair of the much hyped MBT Masai sneakers, I lost my baby weight and was back in my size 25 jeans within weeks but I have no idea if it was from the sneakers or because I would walk 5 miles a day just to justify a pair of $250 sneakers. All I know is I got a sore back from the weight of those heavy shoes so I stopped wearing them. Now the Fit Flop has come on the scene and are making similar claims but I have my doubts. Here is what they claim:
1. Improves muscle tone (I think any kind of exercise can do that, like walking.)
2. Increases muscle activity and circulation (Again, nothing that a good ol' brisk walk won't do)
3. Improves balance and posture (That will happen when you stop wearing 5 inch stilettos anyway)
4. Burns calories (Uh, don't you burn calories just sitting at home typing on a computer like I am right now?

pBBW1-3735432v194.jpgThis is not something I want to try mainly because I abhor flip flops and think they are only appropriate for the park, pool/beach or spa (and running errands if you are mostly in your car, that's borderline acceptable). Maybe it is because I no longer live in LA where I used to live in my Havana flip flops but nothing grates on me more than sloppy women at the mall or airport in flip flops! Anyway, I predict this is all hype but may try it just to prove my point. What do I have to lose except looking stupid right? And really, none of these colors go with any of my birkins. What do you beauty snobbers think? Will you try these Fit Flops? $45 at Bath and Body Works.

On-the-go concealer

Post by Beauty Snob Michelle

One of the things that I hate the most is when you’re going through your day, completely unaware that anything might be amiss on your face, and then you go to the bathroom and a huge blemish of some sort has popped up and made a home on your face. It doesn’t happen every day, but when it does it always proves to be traumatic. I really like Tarte’s The Eraser Concealer. It’s an amazing cover up to start with it. It’s water based and loaded with anti-oxidants, so instead of suffocating your skin, it actually helps keep it hydrated. It feels really great on. It’s light and doesn’t come off when you touch your face. The best part is the packaging. It comes in a mascara-sized tube that fits easy in any purse or pocket so there’s no more fiddling with bottles of cover up. There’s no need for sponges either, The Eraser Concealer has a nifty little sponge for easy application on the top. I was already a devotee of Tarte's cheek-stain and I think they’ve made another addict out of me. It comes in five shades (they even have a “tan” shade which will come in so handy in a month or so when I'm get back from my vacation in Hawaii!) and is $19 at Sephora.com Tarte The Eraser Concealer

Lip%20Lacquer%20Elf%20Brown%20%282%29.jpgI am sure you all are dying to try the Golden Honey powder and Elf Brown lip laquer Awake is giving away to our winners but even if you do not win, you should run to Neiman Marcus to buy a set before summer ends. I was lucky enough to receive a set a couple of months ago and let me just tell you it is a constant in my make up bag! It is a special edition and I am a bit panicked that it will not be available next year but knowing Awake, they will come up with something just as brilliant. I am addicted to the Golden Honey Aqua Trans bronzing powder because there is a cooling effect everytime you apply it! So Pure

SoPure.jpg
Post by Beauty Snob Michelle

Years ago I tried a shampoo that was made from plant essentials and it tore my hair apart. I swear, it fell out and was rough feeling and I couldn’t get a comb through it to save my life. (My hair is stick straight and I could usually tie it in a knot and it would just fall out.) Plus, the shampoo I used smelled gross. It was like my hair had expired past its shelf life. Needless to say I’ve stayed away from using any products that have plant essences on my hair. However, I broke my ban when I received So Pure’s cooling shampoo and conditioner. It’s made with Mint and Rosemary and 100% pure plant. It also smells amazing. It smells a little woody, but the mint far overpowers it. The only problem was that once I got in the shower, the mint that smelled so nice just moments before was more overpowering then you could possibly imagine. It started first with my eyes and I was blinking profusely. It was like my shower was filled with the menthol tablets I shower with when I’m sick. The real weirdness began when my head started tingling. I know the bottle said it was a cooling shampoo but the results were more drastic than I imagined. It felt as though someone had smeared a cream made out of Altoids all over my head. It wasn’t unpleasant, just something I’ve never experienced in the shower before. On the total upside, my hair looked fabulous! It felt a little rougher than my regular shampoo, but I got a lot of compliments about how it looked and smelt! see sopurenaturalbalance.com for a sales location near you.

Post by Beauty Snob Michelle

I’m a huge fan of Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale. It’s a great way to get Fall pieces at a discount and I’ve gotten some great deals there. Being a beauty snob however, I’ve always been a little sad that some of my favorite products don’t go on sale along with my favorite designer pieces. But now Nordstrom’s has found a way to include all you beauty product lovers out there! They’ve created Beauty Exclusives, all your favorite products offered in unique colors, sizes, packaging or with special gifts on at Nordstrom’s and only for a limited time. Seriously, they have some awesome products. I never knew that I always needed a 33.8 oz bottle of Kiehl’s Creme de Corps, but I totally do and I pre-ordered it to ship this Friday! It’s a great bargain and I won’t run out for a long time. When A Man Loves A Woman

revitalogo.gif
revitalash.jpgRevitalash available at Sharla's 214-544-2200 - Free domestic shipping for Beauty Snobs!

You all probably know by now that I am lash obsessed, I condition them throughout the day if I don't have mascara on and use at least 4 coats when I do. My friend Sharla (who owns the most amazing beauty boutique) told me about this last week and that women who swore by other lash conditioners have all converted to Revitalash. I have not had a chance to order mine yet but when I read the story behind Revitalash eyelash conditioner, it almost made me cry. From the site:

"It was developed by Dr. Michael Brinkenhoff as a special gift for his wife, Gayle, while she was recovering from breast cancer. Intensive chemotherapy treatments had damaged Gayle’s once-beautiful eyelashes, leaving them sparse, breakable and fragile. After extensive research with a team of talented cosmetic chemists, Dr. Brinkenhoff formulated an eyelash conditioner that, after just a few weeks, gave a renewed look of vitality to Gayle’s eyelashes.

Soon friends and family wanted to know Gayle’s secret to beautiful looking eyelashes. Gayle knew immediately the perfect name for the amazing eyelash conditioner that had given her eyelashes a renewed look of vitality: RevitaLash®. Thus, a new product was born; and a formula created originally for just one special woman has become a product available to women everywhere who want to have beautiful looking eyelashes. Gayle and Michael are committed to donating a portion of the proceeds from RevitaLash® sales to benefit non-profit breast cancer research and education initiatives".

How incredibly romantic is that? Instead of pretending he didn't notice like so many husbands would do for fear of hurting their wives' feelings, he actually took initiative to help her look beautiful and feel better about herself! How sweet is he? And I love that they are donating a portion of profits to breash cancer research and education. I urge you to try this if you have gone through the same chemotherapy treatments Gayle did and experienced lash loss or know someone who has, it will make a wonderful gift. For those of you who are just vain like me, you must try and let me know the results! At Sharlas 214-544-2200 $149.99

Is Gisele The One?

gisele.jpg
Post by Beauty Snob Michelle

I happen to live in a town that’s a little bit obsessed with Gisele. Her current boyfriend happens to be the star quarterback of our football team and the fact that they are dating has made the cover of the paper more then once. So when I saw her name in another news article I rolled my eyes and waited to read about where she went to dinner with Tom Brady. (Gag. I really don’t even think he’s that good looking!) This article happened to be legit however. Gisele has been named the new face of Dolce & Gabbana’s new fragrance The One. The scent is launching exclusively at Saks and will be available there and at Dolce boutiques in the Fall. From the description of "warm, oriental floral blend of bergamot, lychee, peach, Madonna lily, jasmine and plum," it sounds amazing. She launched it this week during a public appearance at Saks in beautiful champagne colored Dolce & Gabbana dress. I'm interested in hearing your opinion. What do you guys think about Gisele as the new face of The One? Do you think she’ll have the same mass market appeal without her angel wings?

I love Boots!

boots2.jpg
Post by Beauty Snob Michelle

When I was living in London a few years ago I became obsessed with Boots’ beauty products. They were amazing and my cheap way to keep my skin flawless while living on a budget. (Plus, even though I was warned, I couldn’t believe how gross some hostels in Europe were! Tip to anyone traveling through Europe on a budget – bring your own pillowcase and a really good face wash!) Anyway, I couldn’t be more thrilled that Boots is slowly making its way to America. To celebrate their Restore and Renew going on sale at CVS today, the first 50 people in line at 8am in the CVS pharmacy at 630 Lexington at 53rd street will receive a free gift bag with $50 of Boots products in it. Remember ladies, these are cheap, quality products. Think of all you’ll get in that bag! Restore and Renew is one of their most popular products with something like 13 bottles being sold every minute. This is a product that is very hard to get your hands on. I’m incredibly jealous of all you New York beauty snobs right now!

I do not find her one bit interesting which is probably why I can't ever remember who she is or what she does for a living even though I have read about her numerous times. So maybe you can tell me- is she a singer, actress or is she, like so many others in our generation, famous for being famous? Please give me her name and her main profession. Congratulations to winner of Natura Bisse Giveaway!

From our winner, Suzie L!

As a faithful reader of Beautysnob.com, I was surprised to see the give away of so many full size products from the very luxurious Natura Bisse Diamond line that Beauty Snob Tina raved about. I was in complete disbelief when I won. An agonizing week went by waiting for the delivery (Had they changed their minds? Did I give them the wrong address somehow?), and when the DHL man finally came, I ripped into the brown cardboard box excited to dive into some styrofoam pellets and see what I'd come up with. Instead, I found a beautiful, large, white square box tied up with ribbon! Inside was a personal card from Joaquin Serra, COO of Natura Bisse, congratulating me! Each product from the Diamond line was packaged like a jewel, nestled in a velvet lined box. Opening each package and lining up my goodies, I felt I was THE luckiest beauty snob! Thank you both for this wonderfully generous treat! Best, Suzie L.

Cornelia Day Resort

cornelialogo.jpgI am very fickle when it comes to shampoos and conditioners and am constantly trying different brands. I came across the Cornelia Signature line of hair products while browsing the site to choose treatments for my next trip to NYC (Kelly's sister, Eva, went there last month and has not stopped raving about it - you will read about it later), with a name like Shine Defining shampoo and conditioner, of course I had to try it!

signatureshampoo.jpgI was surprised to see how pretty the packaging was when I received my goodies, and even more surprised that it was made in England instead of a random cosmetic plant in Jersey. Each box has a silhouette of a tulip and the packaging resembles something you'd buy at Neiman Marcus, it is obvious that Cornelia really made the effort to make its products as high end as its services. I used the shampoo and conditioner this morning and my hair is definitely shinier and softer; it has a fairly strong fragrance from essential oils which made me feel like I was in a spa all day but many of you may not. I loved that the fragrance was floral and not some vanilla or chocolate concoction that are usually popular with spa products, as Kelly always says- we do not need to smell like food! Cornelia Zicu, the owner of Cornelia Day Resort created this line with scents that reminded her of the tranquil forests from her childhood in Romania which is deeply invigorating and calming. I also got the moisture balancing body lotion which has the same fragrance; I can smell it as I type right now and I feel so pampered, it is a light lotion that works well in the heat of summer and made my skin soft, not greasy. Shampoo $35, Conditioner $37, Body Lotion $60. Now that I've experienced the products, I really can't wait to experience the spa but until then, I asked Eva to share her day at Cornelia Day Resort with us.

UPDATE: Congrats to Michelle for guessing this is Vanessa Paradis, the French chanteuse and longtime companion of Johnny Depp. (If you do not leave your email in comments, you forfeit your win)pop11.jpg
Not everyone can look back on their high school years without shuddering at their hair, make up and fashion styles but this actress/singer/model has nothing to be embarassed about! This was taken when she was barely out of her teens and she looks just as cute today. It took me a minute to figure out who this is, how quickly can you guess? First person to get it right will win the Awake bronzer set! Leave your answer in comments.
