The Make Up Girl

Lianne, aka The Make Up Girl, shares her fab beauty tips with us as we kick off Fashion Week!

When did you start the blog and why? I started the blog in April of 2006 and I had originally started it as a way to drive traffic to my website themakeupgirl.net. It has taken on a life of it’s own and honestly I wouldnt have it any other way. I couldn’t imagine my life without it now…it’s like having another arm!!

bonnebelllipsmacker.jpgBeautyfixation (what are you obsessed with and why?) I am obssessed with two things, shea butter and lip balm. Shea butter because my skin just drinks it up and my body skin is super super dry so that is the end all be all for me. Lip balm because I just have been toting them around ever since I can remember! I used to have a bonne bell lipsmacker on a rope around my neck in the 5th grade.

Beauty Icons (who inspires you?) Women that are not afraid of looking older, because god knows I am! In my business, I see all different kinds of women everyday and ones that embrace it have a kind of grace that can’t be bought in a jar or a palette. Women like Lena Horne, Raquel Welch, Catherine Deneuve and Sophia Loren. That is what you call beauty…inside and out.

catherinedeneuve.jpgEdible Addiction that doesn’t make you fat: I am all about the veggie tray with a little ranch. Carrots, celery, broccoli, cauliflower you name it. I also love sushi or edamame that’s good too.

BeautySecrets (tell us something that no one knows and that you have not disclosed on your site): I have always used good old Noxzema as a stand by when I am out of my beloved purity made simple wash. I got the Noxzema bug from my mother, it was the first thing I ever used to wash my face when I was 8.

Childhood Beauty ambitions: I grew up in the 70′s and Mom and Nana were HUGE inspirations for looks. Nana was very progressive (not too many grandmothers walking around with platform heels back then!) They both had many many wigs so my sister and I played dress up early. We would be all decked out in floor length dresses or lounge outfits with furs and wigs when we were very young (I want to say 6 or 7 for me and my sister is 2 years younger!) Then by the time I was 11 I had discovered makeup and I had already watched the movie Mahogany in 1975 when I was 8…so I wanted to look like Diana Ross. The 70′s Diana…big giant lashes the whole bit. I even later used this Maybelline mascara called dial-a-lash and I set the dial to 10 so I could get HUGE lashes and practice the Diana steely stare in the mirror. (Beauty Snob note: OMG! I loved dial-a-lash in the ’80s and it was permanently set on 10!!!!)

noxema.jpgMorning Beauty routine: I don’t have a lot of time in the morning so I try to keep the shower to 15 minutes during the week. On the weekend I will be in there for 40 minutes scrubbing and buffing and washing! I moisturize heavily afterwards from head to toe, and do my 5 minute face before I get my son up and ready for school.

Must have travel beauty items: Wow…I have to have some shea butter, recently it has been Product Body or Solessence. Water water water because you get dehydrated on the plane, Also Flight001.com has this great travel blanket and pillow (must have my OWN blanket and pillow!!) and great travel kits that are airport approved regulation size so none of your stuff gets thrown out!

  1. Lianne is the absolute sweetest person and an awesome makeup artist to boot. We discuss our beauty addictions on a regular basis.

  2. I love your feature on The Make-up Girl! I love both your sites and think it’s great how you feature other beauty-nistas alike. I featured you and your sister site Bag Snob under my Weekend Beauty Reads. If you get a chance check out my site Make-up Junkie in Canada (www.make-upjunkie.blogspot.com). Look forward to more from you!

    Joy

  3. I’m intrigued by this Dial a Lash… sounds like my kind of mascara! Never heard of it before now. I’m with Julia, Lianne is one of the sweetest blog buddies I’ve made. Love the Makeup Girl!

  4. Dial-a Lash was a mascara that was available up until recently. I am not excatly sure when they decided to discontinue it (I was mad though!!) but they need to bring it back. There was a dial at the bottom with numbers 1-10 and those numbers corresopnded with the amount of masacara you got on your lashes. I loved it so much, it made my lashes look over the top and that is all I wore for the LONGEST time. Let’s write some letters to Maybelline!!

  5. To me Lianne is a celebrity in the beauty blogging world!!!

Dial A Lash! So I remember that being on my uncle second wife’s dresser and me and my cousin Shaneice switching the numbers!!!
