Laura Mercier make up sponges for flawless skin

I was applying my homemade tinted moisturizer (2 drops foundation of your choice and 1 drop Kiehls ultra lotion will give you coverage without sacrificing dewy skin) today and kept thinking how much I love my Laura Mercier make up sponges. It has the perfect pillowy softness for flawless application and it feels nice on the skin. Unlike the trianglular drugstore sponges that are hard and wipe the foundation off instead of blending it into your skin, these are soft, pillowy and generously sized. They also last a lot longer than the generic brands so it’s worth the $14 for a pack of four. I wash mine every few days or so with liquid soap and it stays bacteria free. At Sephora

  1. Do you like applying foundation with these sponges better than using a brush? I have never tried them but I can imagine getting a better finish than with my MAC 187 or 190 brush. I might give them a whirl though!

How on earth can you tell that they are bacteria-free? I wouldn’t count on it, to be honest. Sponges are notorious bacteria collectors. I’d rather use Ricky’s triangles–so cheap they are disposable without a thought, and you KNOW they are clean when you use them (one side per day, so two uses). I’m sure the Mercier sponges feel good; so do the Trish McEvoy sponges–they should for the price. But I think it’s a waste of money and probably, unless you sterilize the sponges, a good way to spread bacteria. Cosmetics companies count on things like sponges for profits–they are sold at a hefty mark-up from cost, and people buy them frequently.

I wash mine often with anti-bacterial soap and throw it out every two weeks. But since I am the only one using it, it’s my bacteria anyway :) I can not sacrifice the feel of the sponges, I don’t like that cardboard feel of disposable sponges, it drives me nuts!!!

    Thanks for your input!

    Hi Emily,

I like using a brush when I want a lot of coverage but most days, this sponge is all I need to blend and look more natural.

  6. Nice post. 14 dollars it’s a great price, I guess ladies often do not pay enough attention to the tools they use, but attention is focused on products.
